- I was in Orlando last week and was fortunate to spend a few minutes at Mario's house. He builds big, beautiful acrylic tanks and stands and there are two huge ones in his living room! He also has a pretty cool project going on out in his garage so be sure to watch until the end.

I prefer the discus tank it's so peaceful and the tiny tetras make a great addition! The other tank is a little too chaotic
100% agree. The plants flow well in the discus tank too. I would love to have that chilling in my living room.

The discus tank is beautiful. Discus always gave a calming effect to a room. The African tank, on the other hand, is pure chaos!
Africans are extremely busy. They dig burrows and move things around, etc. But there are so many fish...what were you thinking?
Mario is a pro building these tanks. I lived next door to this wonderful man and his family. His tanks are colorful and are mesmerizing. Want to become stress free buy a tank from Mario!Keep making these tanks Mario!

My goodness.. If I had a tank one of those size, I would die of happiness lol and so would my fish! The biggest tank I own is a 55 gallon lol.

I am retired, on a limited income, live on a second floor apartment, and would just love a 55 gallon tank. Mine is only 20 gallons and I am restocking it after a disastrous loss a while back, and choosing carefully what I put in. I have loved aquariums since in my teens.

Tanks were totally awesome, my thoughts are the cichlid tank had too many fish but the Discuss tank was best I've ever seen!!

The second tank actually isn't overcrowded. If you look close you'll see that the fish are mostly all near the front of the tank and bunched up on one end. There's a lot of space behind them. And remember, five hundred gallons is huge. Even if there are fifty fish they still have ten gallons each.
For a 500g tank plus whatever the sump hold. It could house between 150-200 cichlids easy and be considered African cichlid standard stocking. Beside tank side filtration system play a major role too I would prefer smaller tank with better filter system. He under stock that tank because he already has enough space number of cichlid that the aggression is low, plus he want it to be as maintenance friendly as possible.
Mario is absolutely amazing. He built my custom 300g. Amazing guy start to finish and even after the sale.

Hey folks most of the fish in those tanks are cichlids. Discus are cichlids also from they are from South America.

The first Tank was beautiful because it doesn't have much fishes. Discus was looking so beautiful and just can't forget those small blue fishes ( I really don't know their name but was beautiful). Amazing andd so impresive.......

Just wanted to pass a tip along for all my fellow fishophiles. If you have really large driftwood to boil and clean, get a commercial sized stock pot. Those suckers go up to 200 qts and you could cook a kid in there!

Mario, I think your tank is beautiful, I hope someday to have a tank that big! my only question is about the flowrate in the tank. I was led to believe that for discus there should be less movement in the water. That discus don't like fast-moving water, and normally don't come from rivers that are fast flowing. Have you done any research in this area? Thank you again for showing your fantastic aquarium! Also Mario, I wanted to ask you if you were aware of or have tried the Hanns frozen discuss food, my discus love it and I think it's much better than beef hart. Anyway you are one lucky fish keeper! I cannot wait to see the 800 gallon set up and running, that's an amazing thank!

I have Mbuna cichlids. You have to have lots. It thins out aggression but they are brutal territorial fish. I litterally had a dozen yellow labs and they kept killing each other. Down to 2 males and they quarrel. Blue Cobalts are not as bad.

Tony Canniffe I'll have to second that. SAFE is the best. Its just prime concentrate, ends up being WAY more economical, even in the short term. I use it on my 120 and 250grams of the stuff has lasted me almost 5 years of fishkeeping. Only downside is it stinks and you can't pre mix a batch of safe if you want to store it for any amount of time, the half life is about a day once it gets wet. Keep it dry and it'll last you for years.
