    My favorite budget interface for sure. It works with Linux, however the software adjustments don't but since the hardware does most the work it is one of the best options imo. On Ubuntu, paired with Reaper you have everything most people need.

      It's 200 bucks!!

    • @HumbugShow
      @HumbugShow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It is worth every penny. I use a Fethead to give my SM7B more headroom and no one ever complains about my audio. I put a fair chunk of that down to the ID4. You gotta pay for quality and at $200 it does earn its place in my studio. Plus it is super portable.

    • @balancing_act1261

      did you say budget?

    • @HumbugShow
      @HumbugShow 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Compared to Apollo and many others at the $1000 mark, it is budget. Sure it isn't cheap, but budget means value to me in an affordable range. If you want to sound clean and clear it is the best imo and good audio is a key to good engagement. I also measure by compatibility with Linux and most cheap interfaces I found do a lot in software which doesn't help the penguin crowd like me.
      The preamps are the same as in the $5000 Audient products. So for $200 you get world class preamps. I would say, yes that is budget. Sometimes you have to save a few more weeks and be patient. Everything worthwhile in life takes some time.

    You're my hero for doing that SM7B test. I think this is the very first interface w/ pro quality DI and mic input for cheaper than $249 (Apogee One), so $199 is actually a complete bargain, though the Apogee does feature a built-in mic and sounds amazing and probably has better latency, but the Audient is easier to use (ooh, direct controls!) and has better build quality, and a second headphone jack, which I love. I have a much bigger rack interface (Orion Studio) for band recordings and I wanted to find something that would let me do quick, informal recordings w/ bus power while getting keeper quality single tracks. I have to admit, it's taken the joy out of recording to have to plug into a rack-mounted powered device every time I need to do anything, but once you've tasted what the better devices can do, it's hard to go back to entry-level sound quality. Seeing it handle the SM7B like a champ, I know that it can handle anything.

      If you are referring to a popping in your headphones/monitors as you plug in the cord, and only as you plug in the cord, yes that is normal. It also happens frequently with live sound equipment setups. Simply plug everything in prior to use and you shouldn't have any issues.

    I'm 80% dac streaming Spotify to powered monitors & 20% guitar, amp sims. I have the AQ Dragonfly for 3 years and am ready to upgrade. I tried the Apollo MKii Duo- great sound separation, soundstage. Apollo MKii Solo- no real improvement over the Dragonfly. UAD claims they both have identical AD/DA build, the sound wasn't identical. The software side for me was burdensome and complicated although it seems everyone loves them. So please suggest an interface or dac that will get that great wow factor to my monitors. Price $ 700 and under. Looking at Apogee 24 refurbish $499, RME Babyface Pro $700, Audient ID14 and ID4 etc. Thanks so much, it's hard to get the straight dope from sales people.

    I’m interested in getting the iD14 because I need to mics. Also because the Steinberg UR22MKII has noisy preamps.
    I read on Focusrite website you can also do noise floor testing if you just cut the power (48v) to a condenser mic. I wonder if that’s the same.

    So the ID4 has 2 inputs. Why did I think this would be 4 inputs? Oh because thats the way every other interface labels their interfaces.

    Hey bro, have you messed with the 2 versions above this? Specifically the one Booth Junkie uses? I’ve had my eye on that one

      I haven't messed with that one, but I believe it has the same preamps. I have been considering the id22 and id44

      Jakob Stagnitta Clicking noise could be due to your buffer settings. Have a play around with them, and see if that makes a difference.

    How does it perform with active pickups in your Sterling Sub Ray (which I happen to own too). No clipping? I'm currently having a dilemma before buying my first budget audio interface. Thinking about Presonus Audiobox USB 96, but heard it doesn't tolerate active pickups. Also thinking about Scarlett Solo 3rd gen, but heard about the problems with Windows drivers (I'm using Win 7 still...).
    Maybe Steinberg UR 12?
    Don't know what to choose within the price range up to ~$120 to work stabile on Win7 and not get cooked by my Sub Ray's active pickups.
    Any advice, please? :)

    Hey Bandrew. It's not on your request page, but I'd like to nominate the new mackie onyx artist 1-2 and the producer 2-2. They seem aimed squarely at the scarlett series.

    I use and love this interface. Glad I'm not alone. Been deciding between an Advanced Audio Dm20, Art D7, used Heil PR30 or PR40, or used RE320 to pair with it for speaking only.
