Restoration of a Soviet Military Watch - Vostok Komandirskie U-Boat - Russian Cal. 2414

- This time i´am restoring a Soviet Military Watch.
It´s a Vostok Komandirskie U-Boat and it´s powered by the Vostok 2414 hand-winding movement. It beats at 19800bph and the lift angle of the balance is at 42°. The inscription on the bottom of the dial says: "caenaho b cccp" (made in ussr) so it´s made somewhen in the 80´s.
The movement doesn´t work at all and it´s in a pretty bad condition. The crystal has many scratches, the case and bezel is full of dirt. The crown is loose and the bracelet is missing. The luminous color on the hands has come off and some of the chromium-plating on the crown is starting to come off as well.
I need to disassemble the whole movement, clean all the parts and re-assemble it with some fresh oil. The barrel arbor of the mainspring is broken so i need to replace it. I´am also replacing the spring bars and the crown.
After applying some fresh luminous paint on the hands and polishing the crystal the watch can be assembled again.

I have two Komandirskie’s, a tank commander, and a submarine commander. They are amazing fun watches, especially as I only paid £25 pounds each for them. Both of them keep excellent, accurate time. Thanks for yet another superb video.

The first clocks didn't have a face, only a bell to announce the hour. The word clock comes from the words in various old european languages, all literally meaning a bell. The oldest one in working order is in Salisbury, from 14th Century. The mechanism is on display there.
I love how he treats each piece almost reverently. So great to see people taking something old and bringing it back to full functionality.
Yeah a interesting thing is that the company vostok still sells the movements separatly so thats also a way however it wont be the movemnt the watch came with obviously

@Олег Вещий Ну судя по последней версии винды, то да. Советская система образования (той далёкой страны), советские инженеры, которые благодаря этой системе разработали системы автоматизации, тех же часов. Так, что это страна породила продукт, его и реализовала. Современная Россия, тут ни при чём.
У меня тоже командирские часы и насмотревшись ваших роликов я их разобрал полностью, потому что они не работали. Было очень интересно. Собрать обратно точно не смогу.
Какое невероятное терпение нужно вот так сидеть и чего то там ковырять !И надо иметь железные нервы !

They can built no-nonsense machines and weapons with a simple design, easy to maintain, easy to use and enormously reliable. Whether it's Lada cars, Kalashnikov assault rifles, Makarov pistols or Vostok watches, they all have one thing in common: They don't work extremely precisely, but they work under practically all conditions, even under those which almost guarantee failure of more sophisticated products.
I have this exact watch! my grandparents gave it to me as a gift when I was a child when they visited Russia and almost 40 years later it still keeps great time. Very cool to see the inner workings. Fantastic work!
I have several Vostok Commander's that are working extremely well, never serviced since the early 70's but still going lol
.........Smart grandparents.....Today's Vostok Amphibian is the perfect gift for a male who still wears a watch. (phones).....I just had a niece get married....her husband has a watch "thing" like me...one day I handed him a boxed Amphibian....he couldn't stop staring at it.

@ yeah, you're right. A lot of those watches were quite expensive in the Soviet times and were considered sort of like a currency in case the economy crashes. A paper band on those vostoks is not a simulation, it's just so the watch will not tumble inside the box and scratch, by the way. I've seen some NOS condition ones, but sometimes the price is just too steep even here in post Soviet countries, especially if you add in the price of a needed service to wear it.
Anyway, it's nice to know someone else is enjoying these vintage soviet classics.
As someone who had watch like this when i was a child, thank you for restoring this relic

@@user-bi6eu9qq7s Это как раз советские. Чистопольский завод производит похожие и сейчас, но к ним добавлен модуль автоподзавода. А у оригинальных советских в 1980-х его не было. Можно уточнить, когда стали ставить.
Какую же память нужно иметь, а главное терпение чтобы такое чудо творить!

Часы как разбирают и собираются я вижу в первый раз и это так мелко, что моё терпение бы кончилось в течении нескольких минут. Ну и деталей намного больше чем 8. Так что да, для новичка это мрак!
Суть в том, что когда для тебя это ново - то ты действительно удивляешься этому волшебству. Ну, а для мастера конечно же это рутина!

I'm glad you restored this little gem. Vostoks are the coolest watches, with all the different dial images they have. This one had that really beat up crystal, but under it was that beautiful deep blue dial. You transformed it into a collector's piece.
Doesn't it bother you that your "super master" disassembles the watch without even cleaning it with a brush, well, at least, so as not to get your table and tool dirty ??? Or they (the watch) before the shoot were deliberately led to this look, like - look, here she is a shit candy?

Synthetic oil HP-1300 is not intended for steel-steel friction pairs, it is used in stone-steel friction pairs. The author is a good operator, but a weak watchmaker.
@@thomasboyle1677 The author does not use pre-oil oil, but expensive, synthetic oil. But it is not suitable for steel-steel friction units, the purpose of this oil is stone-steel. For steel-steel friction pairs, semi-synthetic oil is used, any competent craftsman must know this. Something like this. And it doesn't matter how much the watch costs, otherwise it turns out that cheap watches are oiled with oil for sewing machines.

Can't believe my grandfather used to do this for a living back then. He lived in Kiev so he was working on these exact types of watches too. Beautiful restoration!

Bought a few of these dirt cheap in Budapest in the early 90s. Always wanted to have them restored and give to me kids. Now I need to! It turned out amazing. Great job!

You can get entry level tools pretty cheap, and there are tons of cheap watches out there for you to -destroy- practice on. That's what I'm on my way towards.

A Vostok watch in this condition you can get it for cheap as 30-40$ for the restoration, you need some parts, glass, maybe a new movement. About 100$ you can make it look like new. The problem is the same watch in good condition you can get it for 80$ and you ready to wear it.

I have one of these. Gift from my brother - he picked it up at a market in the European side of Turkey in the early 90's. Still works, but the second hand has a mind of its own!

Я то же самое проделывал 40 лет назад хомутной иглой переточенной под отвёртку и хирургическим пинцетом на газете. Ещё в ухо дышат 3-4 любопытных. Чинил часы всему общежитию мединститута. Главное зрение и пальцы. Лупой даже не пользовался. Раньше у часов были тяжелые маятники и при падении с небольшой высоты сразу ломалась ось. А сегодня отнёс дрель на ремонт не хочется ковыряться,

Дружище, отличная работа! Съемка и постановка видео наверняка заняла намного больше времени, чем ремонт часов. Кстати, часы попались почти новые. Обычно, они через несколько лет носки уже с протертым хромом на безеле и корпусе. Эти же, как будто, просто небрежно хранились. Удачи!
Когда был подростком имел такие часы, их хватило на два года. Редкостное качество.

Great job indeed! Thank you for the video! I have several watches of this model with different displays. I wish there was such a master-hand somewhere in my neighbourhood who could make them new again! These watches really worth this!
Watch repairers and engine builders amaze me in how they can put all the nuts, bolts, washers, screws etc into one container for the parts washing machine and remember where everything went! I would have to take pictures of each step of disassembly so as to not forget what went where. I'm sure this gentleman would say that it's easy or that it's obvious or that it can only go back one way, or? I'm also sure that practice and repetition helps over time, but still... How many junk watches or engines would you have to tear down before you see the logic or patterns for reassembly, not to mention building up a bin of spare fasteners for when those tiny pieces get to flying off the work table? It does seem like screws and bolts could have the same length, diameter and thread pitch for standardization etc, but you still have to remember how all the other parts went together! Watches seem to have many "layers" as well, some deeper and some shallow, with gears overlapping each other so that maybe reassembly could be somewhat logical. But still... Fascinating to watch craftspeople at work...
