Tell us how much you think it would cost to grade separate all that track, given that FEC uses the same tracks for freight operations as well. Tunneling and/or trenching is out of the question because of the high water table, so that means an elevated line. Come on, do the math for us, you seem to know it all.
@electro_sykes The governor doesn't have that kind of power. The cost would be billions and funded by taxpayers. It would require massive legislative approval and massive taxes. Given Florida's aversion to taxes it won't happen.
Easier said than done. Until all crossings are grade separated (which will probably never happen), adherence to rules of the road will prevent future incidents, as it would have all of the Brightline accidents thus far.
Doesn't matter if the lights were flashing and the gates were down. Most Chicago suburbs have had horn bans in effect since the 19th century and it never seems to be a problem for them.
Guards were down ….there was two trains traveling in opposite directions….the fire truck went around the guards after the first train cleared the crossing and the fire truck driver did not see the second train
For those of you who haven’t seen the footage from the passenger train, I will give a brief summary of what happened. In the footage you can see on the adjacent mainline track is a freight train. It appears to be going in the opposite direction as the passenger train. Just seconds before the passenger train reached the intersection the back of the freight train had just finished crossing the intersection. The intersection directly before the ones that the firefighters were hit at had two gates covering each side of the road so four total. I do not know if the intersection the firefighters were at had four gates or just two because I could not see the other gate in the video. However, in the video you can see that the gates are down and I can’t for sure state this as a fact, but it would be pretty reasonable to assume that the gates had been down for a while since the freight train had just passed. Either way, the right of way still applies even when the gates aren’t working, any driving school will tell you that you cannot rely on crossing gates to tell you when a train is coming. Yes a lot of times they are working, but sometimes they aren’t. A good thing about crossing gates is that if something happens, they have a lot of fail safes but that doesn’t mean that the gates will always go down when there’s a train, things happen. That is why you as a driver should always take the responsibility to slow down and look left and right to make sure that there isn’t a train coming and if there are multiple tracks, you should always assume that there might be multiple trains coming, and you should never stop on a railroad track even if the gates aren’t down and there isn’t a train in sight. You are NEVER supposed to stop on the railroad track.
I am sorry, but just look at the thousands of "fire truck responding" videos on you tube and you will see video after video of fire trucks not stopping at intersections and moving against red lights and not obeying traffic laws. The use of emergency lights does NOT allow you to ignore the laws, it just is a way to signal other drivers that you need to get somewhere quickly. In MOST states the law also states that when emergency lights are activated the driver of the vehicle MUST drive with due regard for safety. Colliding with a train is not driving with due regard.
As a 20+ year firefighter, I will tell you that you are wrong. When we have our lights and sirens on, we have the right to run stop signs and red lights. We have to slow down and pay close attention when doing it, but we are allowed to when responding to an emergency. Please stop making ignorant comments when you don't know the law or what you are talking about. It is disrespectful.
@ well since I am a certified paramedic for 30 years who has taken more EVOC classes than I remember; you are wrong. You MUST DRIVE WITH DUE REGARD to public safety. I know of 3 different medics and firefighters in jail right now for being convicted of manslaughter due to shitty driving while emergency lights are activated. So how about you admit EVERY STATE IN AMERICA gives us the right to disobey traffic laws when it’s safe to do so. But when we go against red lights we are responsible for any outcomes that might occur. Try again…
Never go around the arms. If they stay down after the freight train passes, It doesn’t mean that you have a clear second track. I worked for a major rail line and I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen doing exactly what this moron did. We were working on a track in a yard that crossed the Texaco main gate in Port Arthur Texas when a woman went back under the arms to retrieve a piece of paper that slipped out of her hand. The engine was on top of her in the blink of an eye. Sad but this is one of many I’ve seen. My dad was worse.

A firefighter in Delray Beach or anywhere in South Florida is a hella good job and a lifetime paycheck, Ultra hard to get hired, rigorous testing. This is what you end up with, 3 individuals with TOTAL disregard to crossing gates that are down and red lights flashing. The 2 that weren't driving should have spoke up and grabbed the driver to stop. Anyone that lives in South Florida, Especially firefighters, KNOWS the casualty rate that bright line holds, it's killed and maimed numerous. The lawsuits, job loss (be surprised if the driver keeps his job), mental anguish. This is day one stuff, DON'T DRIVE AROUND CROSSING GATES!!!! Average guy that would never drive around crossing gates can't get a job with the fire department.
The cross arms were down. Two sets of tracks and a train had cleared going the opposite direction. Got to look both ways when crossing double tracks AND the guards are down
Watching another video you can plainly see the gates down in front of traffic. They obviously need to put a gate on the opposite side of stopped traffic to stop and prevent people from crossing over the tracks. Why anyone thinks they can circumvent and beat a train doing 80 mph is nuts.
Yes,The driver of the fire trunk should have known better.Better judgement, waiting patiently, until the train bypassed, them and others prevents, serious injuries, and save lives. Wishing all parties involved a healthy speedy recovery.
WTF, I bet they said they did not hear it. Trains blow their horns at every crossing. Even if they didn`t, You can`t help but hear the rumble of a train.
Did they not watch the video of the accident? Is true news reporting if you do not bother to gather all the info that you can before reporting? The crossing warning devices were operating properly. The Florida East Coast Railroad which owns the right of way and Brightline made sure that all of the crossings had active warning devices. Also that particular crossing has lane dividers to make it hard for motorist to go around the gates. Quit trying to blame the railroad for what the fire truck driver caused. The view of the train was not blocked had the firetruck driver bothered to look to his right as he arrived to the grade crossing.
The multi track situation results in this type of accident from time to time. In Canada, it is illegal to drive under or around gates that are being lowered or raised, or down. Most drivers start up as gates begin to rise after a train passes. This can be risky because the gates sometimes only get part way up, before dropping again if a second train activates the circuit. In this case the gates didn't even start to rise. This incident is really disappointing because I would think firefighters, especially in Brightline territory with the record of CrossFit incidents, would know full well how fast those trains operate, and what an accident can result in.
☑️ The Driver of the truck "Might" be terminated, unless the fire Chief,or someone in charge order the Driver to cross the RR Tracks. Makes a big difference.

Also, there's a REASON the RR posts an additional sign reading "2 tracks, 3 tracks" etc. One slow freight passed the crossing then the fire truck drove AROUND the still closed gates and into the path of a fast passenger train on the track behind the freight.

The tracks that Brightline uses at High Speed should never intersect with any road. STUPID (retired, P&LE RR)
We need to seriously pressure desantis to fund building overpasses and remove level crossings
Tell us how much you think it would cost to grade separate all that track, given that FEC uses the same tracks for freight operations as well. Tunneling and/or trenching is out of the question because of the high water table, so that means an elevated line. Come on, do the math for us, you seem to know it all.
@electro_sykes The problem there is that FEC trains run on this line as well. Too many grades are going to wreak havoc with freight operations.
@electro_sykes The governor doesn't have that kind of power. The cost would be billions and funded by taxpayers. It would require massive legislative approval and massive taxes. Given Florida's aversion to taxes it won't happen.
Easier said than done. Until all crossings are grade separated (which will probably never happen), adherence to rules of the road will prevent future incidents, as it would have all of the Brightline accidents thus far.
why???
no brakes
@ for the fire truck?
Florida simply cannot get it shi…together. Is always something.
lol. i know we are a mess here
Clearly this is the driver's fault and did not have qualifications to have a Driver's license.
Have you driven a fire truck before? Have you ever been under extreme stress and had to drive a fire apparatus to someone's emergency? If not, STFU.
Was a quiet zone that bans train horn blowing in place?
Doesn't matter if the lights were flashing and the gates were down. Most Chicago suburbs have had horn bans in effect since the 19th century and it never seems to be a problem for them.
@GogglesPisano13 because commuter lines are a way of life in Chicago land. This line in Florida has only run for a few years.
In all situations where horn bans are in place, the horn can still be sounded to prevent accidents or contact with animals.
Something doesn’t add up here ?!
It seems pretty clear. What does not add up?
I was right behind the firetruck when it turned and I was in a gray lexus and I was so scared
Did the gates work properly during the collision?
Guards were down ….there was two trains traveling in opposite directions….the fire truck went around the guards after the first train cleared the crossing and the fire truck driver did not see the second train
How many times now????? Damn
Take a lesson people. The train knocked over the fire truck like it was a Matchbox toy.
Will this be an auction vehicle?
Why are trucks always on the tracks.
Why would a fire truck be crossing tracks that were flashing at a snails pace?
Sorry to hear that!
At the wheel: The Florida - Man of firefighters!
Probably Florida woman
As my father would say: "Some one has a lot of explaining to do"
Stop train abuse!
Try again…
I just moved out of Delray Beach five years ago. How does this happen?😩
I'm not usually one to jump into presales, but with Adaxum, I couldn't resist. This is a solid project with massive potential!
Hopefully they all make it ! But someone is getting fired!! Stay safe brothers !!
Maybe the firetruck has its lights and sirens on so people need to stop judging til they investigate all what happened..prayers to everyone
So lights and sirens can somehow stop a 60 mph train?
@@GogglesPisano13no, But..the ladder truck would have had siren going and crew wearing headsets to protect hearing and communicate so probably wouldn’t have heard the train horn at all.
@JohnHallgren These people are idiots. They've never driven a fire apparatus a day in their lives but are quick to assume and jump in the comments section with their ignorant comments.
Got to look both ways when crossing double tracks AND the guards are down
Pretty costly for the poor citizens too
Could you stop blaming on the firefighter and/or the train driver? Just find witnesses on the accident and look for the police report.
Common, yet another reason trains need better braking systems. Clearly the firetruck had the right-of-way when it's lights/siren were active.
Never stop on train tracks, gotta be stupid to do that
Watching another video you can plainly see the gates down in front of traffic.
Would love to know the speed of the train?
Fast
Rest assured, it was within authorized limits for that stretch of track.
That line through densely populated SE FL is just one crash after another.
I hope no one was hurt on the train my opinion they have no reason to feel bad there job is just as important
Fire truck in the wrong again. Don’t care what your going too yield for a train.
Train vs anything else except another train = train wins. 🥇
☑️ The Driver of the truck "Might" be terminated, unless the fire Chief,or someone in charge order the Driver to cross the RR Tracks. Makes a big difference.
No one paying attention. Fire truck thought he had the right away. First time this ever happened. Only in Florida
Welcome to floridahhh
Floriduhhh!!!🙄
@@FYMASMD Indeed the welcome signs need to say...welcome to floriduhhh
"The guard rails to stop vehicles from crossing the tracks" FFS Who hires these "newscasters?" CROSSING GATES! Those are called CROSSING GATES!
Also, there's a REASON the RR posts an additional sign reading "2 tracks, 3 tracks" etc. One slow freight passed the crossing then the fire truck drove AROUND the still closed gates and into the path of a fast passenger train on the track behind the freight.
There is a video from the train and you can see the crossing guards down and the fire truck went around them
Caught on camera?
