I agree 100%. Why cant Kindles come stock with 32GB of storage, or at least 16GB on base models. there are full smartphones that cost about as much as the Paperwhite 5 non-sig and they have anywhere from 32-128GB of storage. $50 for a storage upgrade is a bit steep, and the other 2 features are very overrated. Honestly, the best deal of all the new Paperwhites, and the one I am getting, is the kids edition. 159.99 for no ads, 2 year warranty, and a case is pretty nice, and you can make it act like a regular Paperwhite with ease. Sure its still the 8GB model, but its still a better value than the signature edition. the signature should get more than just those 3 things. I think it should include 6 months of Kindle Unlimited and a case. then it might be worth the $50 extra they are asking over the base Paperwhite
I'd also like at least 6 months or a year of Kindle Unlimited too. I think these benefits should also apply for the Oasis too, as well as no ads period on the Oasis. The base Paperwhite is the sweet spot for being cheap enough to spring choose over the Kindle Basic while also packing 99% of what the Signature edition and Oasis have over it. I'd even go a step further and say that the Kids edition for an extra $20 is a better value than the base because it doesn't have ads, includes a case and a 2 year warranty, and if you have kids you get a year of Amazon Kids+ included. After you reach that Kindle, the value for each additional dollar spent tanks. Amazon should at least give you more incentive than just more storage and a couple overrated features for the price they charge, and having an 8GB Oasis is a joke at this point. 8GB on any Kindle feels like a joke because fully featured smartphones at these prices range from 32GB-128GB of storage built-in, but 8GB on a $250 device and 32GB on a $300 one just feels criminal, especially without any micro SD expansion capabilities.
Signature Edition is also .5mm thicker which means the front flap on Amazon cases doesn't sit flush when closed. Sent my Sig back and got regular version and never looked back. Great update overall though!!
Not a single chance I would need more than 8 gigs for my ePub > mobi conversion (no comics, no audio books). Wireless charging and auto brightness : just don't need those features. I more than fine with the cheapest one which I enjoy very much since purchase.
The storage size difference is hardly "little", it's over 400% of a difference...except for that (which further poses the question of how many people really need more storage than the smaller one anyways), this was an excellent overview of the differences. Thank you.
Well considering both versions support Audiobooks and they can be multiple GBs in size, the 32 GB is a necessity for that, even PDFs or picture heavy books can easily be 100 MB which can add up if you have a huge library. TBH even 32GB is too small since many people store multiple of those big formats. 32 should be the base model and the upgrade should be 64-128GB, just like most phones.
A "little more" storage? 4 times (netto 5 times according to your measurements) the storage! That way my entire Kindle library of over 1000 ebooks fits on the device and I only have to activate WiFi when I want to buy new books.
I don't know what kind of ebooks you read, but in the 8gb you can have near 6000, while on SE, you can fit up to 27546 (more less) books of 1mb. Now, audiobooks and graphic novel are other theme...

And extra space is usually very expensive in any mobile tech (phones, tablets, etc), because... well money, shareholder and what-not...
@@ayushpandey2628 I couldn't care less about the additional storage, but I find the automatic brightness compelling. Its never worked right for me on previous generations so I passed on this one, but if i got Signature that would be why.
It seems that many have forgotten (and Amazon is conveniently omitting in its promotion of this newer model) that the 10th Gen was also available in 32 gigs with no ads and priced at 179. I have that model and will keep mine for now. Let’s see what comes with the next updated version. Not worth it for me.
I was torn between the paperwhite and the signature edition and in the end got the 16gb paperwhite. It’s still way way more book capacity than I need and I don’t plan on storing thousands of books on the actual kindle.
I never understood why Kindles have so much of their storage taken up by the firmware. I had a 5th gen kindle basic in 2012, which only had 2GB of storage but nearly half of it is taken up by the firmware, and that hasn't changed much in nearly 10 years, at least on the 8GB model. I am getting a Kindle Paperwhite standard edition because the price increase to 32GB isn't worth it to me, but why can't we bump the base model to 16GB. It can't be that expensive, especially when there are fully featured smartphones selling for less than $139.99 that come stock with 32GB of storage, and even one phone at $140 that has 128GB of storage.
I don't understand how wireless charging is super convenient. Instead of keeping a cord around to plug it into, you have to make space for a wireless charger, position the device correctly on the charger, and then hope it doesn't get knocked off. Charging through the USB port seems a lot more convenient than that. I am glad to see that both include a scheduler for the light settings. That seems like a more useful feature than auto-adjusting brightness. This lets me set the brightness levels I'm comfortable with at certain times and have the device return to them at the appropriate time. Since I've never run out of space on my Kindle Touch, which has 4GB, or my PW4, which has 8, I don't expect I would ever need the extra storage space. I know I won't need it for manga or audio books, because I would still rather read those on my Likebook Mars, which is larger, and which runs the Kindle app, which allows reading and listening to an audio book at the same time. Also, my Likebook Mars has plenty of extra storage with the 128 GB chip I put into it. So, nothing about the Signature Edition really justifies the extra cost for me. The main features I would like to see in a higher priced model include auto-rotation, an audio port, and maybe some buttons. At least the Kindle DX has these features, and the Kindle Touch has some.
"Instead of keeping a cord around to plug it into, you have to make space for a wireless charger, position the device correctly on the charger, and then hope it doesn't get knocked off." It's the same for USB though? You still have a cord around (and it's more convenient cause it's always going to be anchored to the same spot while cords can easily slip and fall away when not connected), you still need space to sit your phone down (usually the exact same amount of space), and make sure it doesn't get knocked off your table. As for the "positioning" part, it's really not that hard once you find the spot initially, you will know where to place it every single time and it's even easier if you have a "stand" style one since there's only one place to sit it, you literally can't miss it. Plus, you can argue USB has the same issue of having to perfectly align the port, it's a lot easier to just drop a device on a pad at night than try to see in the dark if you are hitting the port at all (nonetheless the correct orientation if it's not USB-C). The only real downside of Wireless is the fact it's slower charging than even normal charging nonetheless "0-80% in 10 minutes fast charging" everyone has become used to but that doesn't really matter if it's going to be sitting there all day on your desk and is actually "healthier" for prolonged battery life, fast charging constantly will make your battery die a lot faster in a few years. So basically, all you are doing is laying your phone down on the desk exactly where you normally leave it every day, you never really have to think about the charger at all unlike normal charging where you have to actually find the cord that probably fell behind the desk, probably try plugging it in the wrong way first, and then sit it down in the exact same spot.
I bought a little device on an Amazon, I plug it into plug in port, and it fits under the case. It gives my wireless charging on a Basic. Cost was $14.00 cnd

I'm getting the 8GB kids edition. It's the best value because of the extras included and no ads, and all you have to do is delete the kids profile after you setup the device and it will be just a normal Paperwhite. The last Kindle I had was the 5th gen Basic (it was the same as the 4th but with the black body instead of silver and the 20% faster display over the 4th gen.). I loved that thing but haven't had it for years now. I'm excited to get a new one again. I do wish there was more storage for PDFs though. 32GB should be the base and there should be 64 or 128 in the signature. Most phones at the price you pay for these Kindles include a minimum of 32GB and sometimes even 64 or 128GB. And the more you pay for the signature edition or even the Oasis, the more storage you find standard on phones at those prices, so there is no reason why Amazon can't give us 32GB to start and 64 or 128 for the higher end models.
I think the 32 gig, no ads Oasis 3 (2019) is still better. Can't change the fact that it's USB micro-B, but a nice cover with wireless charging built-in would be cool.
I replace my Kindle every three years or so. My last model was an Oasis in December 2017. I always buy top of the line, so went for the Signature. $50 isn’t that much all things considered. I probably would have preferred an updated Oasis, but who knows if that will ever happen.
I think if I did not have the latest Oasis, I might go for the signature edition, but I’m definitely not exchanging the Oasis for it. Built-in buttons, slightly larger screen, auto-rotate are pretty nice. USB-C is nice, but honestly it’s not exactly a headache to charge the Oasis. Yes, I know this is a video comparing the two models of paperwhite 😄

Amazon just released the 16GB Paperwhite for only $10 more if you need extra storage space. I'm sure it'll be cheaper during the Black Friday Thanksgiving sale.
Each book varies from 1mb to like 3mb tops so the estimated amount is 2000-3000 books from 6gb of free space. If you're planning on reading comics and Manga though 6gb won't get you far as those files are larger.
If you’re going to use audiobooks, then the signature edition is the better option in my opinion. Audiobooks take up more memory so you can relax with all the memory on the paperwhite signature edition. Just my 2 cents.
I don't like the way these two devices differ. I have a 10th gen Paperwhite which I intend to sell. The auto brightness feature is the only reason I feel I Will not get the best value. It's a feature that will directly influence the reading experience. But definitely not worth 50$ more. I hate the way these two devices differ...

A very important thing that you didn't mention, and on the basis of which I can say that the designer or originator of the light sensor was/is a moron, ignorant, and I'm even more irritated by the fact of paying people for such a fucked up job. As far as I know (or maybe I'm an idiot) in sunny weather the phone screen is poorly visible, the sensor turns up the lighting to the maximum to improve visibility - understandable. However, the ereader screen works completely differently, it is clearly visible in full lighting. When we move to a dark room, the sensor should work and brighten the reader so that we can read (unlike the phone where the sensor reduces the light intensity). Logical, but not for everyone. I can be an idiot, a moron or whatever. I'll take it on board. I bought the 32gb version because I don't like being restricted. The light sensor is such a forced addition, but if there is something, I require it to work sensibly, as intended. I understand that if I go out with the reader into the yard, it still needs to light up because it can't be seen on this type of screen?
No SD card and still these piddly amounts of storage? Never. A device from 10 years ago had better storage options that this, 8GB or 32? It's still 2012 or something? ( My little Sony PRS T1 from 2010 has a 32GB MicroSD card- from 11 years ago!) A freakin' SD card that'd hold thousands of books is like $30 these days. I can't believe people play this game with these companies eliminating storage options when it's now dirt cheap for large capacties. No sale ever from me until they knock that crap off. If no SD (because I guess someone needs to use theirs in the pool or something so it need IP3000 water proofing? What's the excuse?) then these things should have at the LEAST 64GB, 128 even 256.

I replace my Kindle every three years or so. My last model was an Oasis in December 2017. I always buy top of the line, so went for the Signature. $50 isn’t that much all things considered. I probably would have preferred an updated Oasis, but who knows if that will ever happen.
When you're ready to sell off that oasis, you've got a buyer here.
I love this channel and been following and watching for years!
Is the M2L3EK model good enough to enjoy reading manga?
Can I use any wireless charger for the Signature Kindle? Thanks for your videos!
I have all my books downloaded on my new google drive and it's 4gb, I'm thinking if i should get a larger memory or not..
how am i going to know if my books are accurately 4gb? i'm worried to buy 8gb kindle and after i put my books there it would be full... pls help..
Amazon just released the 16GB Paperwhite for only $10 more if you need extra storage space. I'm sure it'll be cheaper during the Black Friday Thanksgiving sale.
it’s prime week !!! and i’m struggling to figure out which one i want !!!
How many books can you store on the base version?
Each book varies from 1mb to like 3mb tops so the estimated amount is 2000-3000 books from 6gb of free space.
If you're planning on reading comics and Manga though 6gb won't get you far as those files are larger.
I would perfer Kindle basic signature with warm light over ppw
Were can I download free manga? 😏
In the Amazon comparison says: auto-rotation for signature edition… I buy it, and then I realize that it’s false :/ no autorotation, really annoying.
Will Amazon release an Oasis this year? Or is that scraped due to the signature edition?
I'm wondering if I should get the Signature edition, since I may well be using audiobooks. I'd appreciate any advice here.
If you’re going to use audiobooks, then the signature edition is the better option in my opinion. Audiobooks take up more memory so you can relax with all the memory on the paperwhite signature edition. Just my 2 cents.
if you read manga, you need a signature model definitely.
Why do you say that?
I don't like the way these two devices differ. I have a 10th gen Paperwhite which I intend to sell. The auto brightness feature is the only reason I feel I Will not get the best value. It's a feature that will directly influence the reading experience. But definitely not worth 50$ more. I hate the way these two devices differ...
do you still get the kindle unlimited as a free trial on the kindle even when you already have it on computer or phone and are paying for it there? i want to buy my first kindle soon
I recently bought the Signature edition and added the free Unlimited option (even though I already have a subscription). I checked my Digital Orders, and it's active - won't be billed until May :)
I'm a little bit confused. Are there two Paperwhite 5 models with different size of storage?
Yes. The paperwhite 5 is 8 gig and the paperwhite 5 signature edition is 32 gig.
@@stezton Thanks for information.
Waterproof?
is there a weight difference since the Signature Edition has more hardware inside?
Because of additional storage, device should be heavier.
weight difference?
I have kindle paperwhite 7 gen which i bought in yearly 2018, now as i was expecting by seeing the pattern of 3 years gap between a new upgrade to a kindle 11 gen PW released. But i always thought to upgrade to oasis one. now my PW is good as new no prob at all. not even color fading. according to me new Oasis will be launched next year's fall. should i wait for it?. As i want best of the best. As i live in India we do not have Kobo or any other if you are going to suggest. so tell me should i wait till next year or go with signature edition.
There may not even be a new Oasis now that they have a new premium Paperwhite.
@@andysmith1996 it still doesn't have a aluminum back and page buttons, so it is easy to think they will come up with new oasis.
@@whitewolf6966 People do like the buttons but the aluminium back has come in for criticism for being too cold and too slippery. I could see them just adding buttons to the Paperwhite and moving away from the Oasis design completely.
Do you like your pw? Do u like buttons?
For me, it’s my first kindle, I normally read on my iPad . Went for signature, would sell if I hated it lol
@@yvonnec.5854 Um yeah I guess buttons will be a great addition. It is just that oasis is most premium one, so i kinda like that. And yes I love my PW. It is like a part of me 🤣
Are the screen material, technology and resolution same?
Everything else is identical (screen, build materials, size, bezels) The only difference is more storage, auto brightness and wireless charging.
I just upgraded my 8 year old paper white. If I had seen this video I would have gone with the Signature. Oh well… there’s always Black Friday! 😊
A little bit more storage, (5 times the amount) lol
1.) Upgraded the software on a very simple device should be $0.00
2.) Ads free maybe $5.00
3.) wireless charging $5.00
4.) 32gb on a vary simple device $5.00
5.) Maybe give it $5.00 for being a over all upgrade of a vary simple device.
In my opinion the upgraded paper white should be 16gb for $100 and the signature, edition should be $130 tops.
They are a bit over priced for what they are and yes I own a kindle paper white and want a oasis - lol😊
Tell me about it in Spain is 189.99€ for a asignature, why I know this? Because I save for buy it there, also they only have it in black.
If it were a physical book, does your nature expected it to be wireless charged? No thx
That's a really dumb comment. Unless you're outside, you're still using electricity to power lights so you can read physical books.
i think there is no real significant upgrade since the first paperwhite. will only upgrade when amazon releases 8inch+ color e-reader
Good luck cause amazon aint releasing color e reader anytime soon xd
@@ashyyyk8098 yeah. Good then i dont need to spend
If it has colour, people would just buy a normal tablet …
The way you're trying to sell the bare minimum upgrades to the signature edition with so much effort makes me not buy it even more. Great video though. Now I'm getting regular paperwhite.
Mein kindle, reagiert nicht mehr, wenn ich auf das Display drücke. Wer kann mir helfen?
What's the excuse?) then these things should have at the LEAST 64GB, 128 even 256.
me encanta, poder leer sin luz
Great video
Very thanks!!!
And it's ad free
lol a litte more storage.....
