    Would you make a video on how to use “bebop language” in blues and rock context? In bebop, it sounds great but I can’t make it fit very well in rock like Guthrie govan can.

    Interesting. I like using chromatic slides into pentatonic notes - it changes the phrasing - rather than picking everything.

    Your idea works on the dominant pentatonic scale too.

    • @WeissGuitar
      @WeissGuitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sweet! what did you discover ? do share :)

    • @icarusi
      @icarusi ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to call the dominant pentatonic the mixolydian pentatonic because I used it over mixolydian mode/scale stuff. The site above uses both names but there's another pattern also called mixolydian pentatonic, Steve Hillage used it a lot (th-cam.com/video/ZRx3y2GfsxA/w-d-xo.html) so it's a bit confusing. I haven't heard the Hillage one called 'dominant', just the 'mixolydian' having 2 different options. I don't think the Hillage variant will work so well in context of some b7 'style' music situations. YMMV.

    • @icarusi
      @icarusi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did write another part but TH-cam ate it. Next time I'll do it offline YT has been doing that too often!

    • @icarusi
      @icarusi ปีที่แล้ว

      1) I use shape 4 of the 5 shapes here to start (because it's close to a standard major or minor pentatonic shape/position) :-
      www.jazz-guitar-licks.com/pages/guitar-scales-modes/pentatonic-scales/the-dominant-pentatonic-scale-guitar-lesson-diagrams-and-charts.html
      2) then convert from 2+2 to 1+3 (or 3+1) form by ear.
      3) an alternative is, for every 2+2 (=4) pentatonic grouping, there are 4x 1+3 groupings, easier to think of as removing 1 note of the 2 and adding it 1 string down (or up) and adding it back on the opposite diagonal. Obviously the 1+3 shapes straddle the standard pentatonic shape/positions, but just the options around 4 notes is plenty to work with, plus thinking off the standard pentatonic shapes makes it easier to flip between 2+2 and 1+3 groupings.

    how do i use dorian and melodic minor in a pentatonic style? Wouldnt adding those extra 2 notes to those scales just make it not pentatonic anymore? A little confused hopefully someone can help.

    • @jameserenberger3425
      @jameserenberger3425 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a Pentatonic minor/major scale in melodic minor. You should really learn where the melodic minor scale is used such as a tritone substitution. For Dorian and Melodic minor I would suggest looking into the minor 6 Pentatonic scale, and the Kumoi scale.

    • @jameserenberger3425
      @jameserenberger3425 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pentatonic scales are skeletons that you can visualize other scales on top of. There are three minor and three major Pentatonic scale within the major scale. Look into Pentatonic superposition to learn how to sound modal.
