I am 68 years old born in 1955. When I was in high school, graduating in 1973, teenage boys wore Chuck Taylor's or PF Flyer sneakers. Chuck Taylor's were the most popular. Over the years, I didn't see teenage boys or men wearing Chuck Taylor's because I think they had stop making the Chuck Taylor's. In 2017, I purchased the white Converse All Stars and they took me back to my teenage years in the late 60's and early 70's. Unfortunately, the bottom sole on the All Stars weren't thick enough and walking on gravel or stepping on a cord hurt my feet. I have flat feet by the way. Yesterday, June 1, 2024, I purchased the Converse Chuck Taylor 70's because the bottom rubber is much thicker and they're a better upgrade from the All Stars. The cost was $90 dollars due to inflation and the economy. I have paid close to $200 for Nike sneakers from the Nike store. $90 was a good deal on the Converse Chuck 70's. I am glad I came across the Chuck 70's Parchment/Garnet/Egret color yesterday. I will wore them today with some black Levi jeans and a gray Polo shirt and a black NY Yankee's baseball cap.🤣 I am still trying to capture my youthful days.😁
2 minutes into the vid and i'm already convinced the 70's are the better choice, i've not worn chucks in a long time but i do remember the last pair i had being really uncomfortable, the extra padding is a must for me so now i know which ones to get! thank you very much!
The comfort sole is the same for the summer versions as they are purposed for bare foot, and the BTO ones. Only the regular ones have the rather simple sole. So no need to go fugly 70's high gloss look if you are after a comfortable sole.
i bought my first pair of converse in korea, i didn’t know the difference between these two but i’m glad the store only had chuck taylor’s. real happy i got the chucks
Thank you very much for this video, it is exactly what I needed. My birthdays coming up and I didn’t know what to get myself also I’ve been in the market for new shoes but didn’t know where to look. I usually wear old school vans and all star converse but wanted to switch it up and the 70’s won me over. Thank you very much for the brief explanation of the difference between the two.
I wish the Chuck 70s had the loop on the tongue that you put the laces through to keep the tongue centered. The Chuck 70's tongue loop always slides to the side and I wish you could get the outsole in white and the black one was actually black instead of dark blueish.
I have the all stars in leather and the 70s in canvas. I use the all stars for lifting and I feel the leather look elevates my look in the gym. For going out and casual outings, I love the 70s for the thicker sole and higher quality materials and stitching.
I will say I recommend the all stars over the chuck Taylor for women who wear them for fashion, they’re much more foot forming and slightly more comfy and less bulky. They make your foot like petite and feel like a glove! Plus if you’re wearing them indoors mostly or on streets the thicker rugged heavier style of the converse doesn’t do much. 🎉
The original Allstars never did it for me, however, the 70’s are totally different. The high quality materials, thicker sole and the smaller, narrower toe cap make them look far better. I bough the 70’s in Parchment colour. I’m hooked, I’ll probably buy a black pair of 70’s in the future. Great video. Thanks.
For my experience worn 70s high i prefer go back to classic because its light weight but my issue on that is comfort insole but i think they change now but outsole is same i hope they change into pure rubber outsole and more grooves outsole thick for more less weight and the 70s are heavy and sturdy and even tight lace my feet still lift the back heel and fast worn out the outsole even i didnt drag heel and 70s are grip a little bit offer in clean floors but not spiky sounds like others shoes and i hope still use rubber pure like pro leather much grip even dusty
Hopefully this comment gets some leverage as a huge Chuck wearer, so.. I think the 70s are a great sneaker on their own and worth the purchase for extra comfort and most importantly decent quality, I still find classic Chucks to look more appealing and find them somewhat comfortable if you don't mind a rather flat insole. I just ordered a pair of the Chuck Taylor All-Star US Originator from Japan (Converse aren''t owned by Nike in Japan and make their sneakers with rather high quality and comfort opposed to the cheap Chucks made now) I will be happy to report with my initial impressions of them as they hold up to 70s if not better quality while keeping the classic look and design of OG Converse. (Note: They aren't offered in wide sizes in Japan so sizing up is the only option for a more comfortable fit)
Chuck 70s don’t have the loops for the laces. Idk why they didn’t put it on them but that is important to know cuz they can’t hold the shoe tongue properly.
You're the pro so here goes..i saw a dude with another variation of the chuck 70's high top today, it has the same reinforced features in front and the black label in the back BUT had the old school "flat" round logo found near the ankle joint, i dont like the raised puffy plastic-y looking ankle logo. Is there a model number or name for the one with the old school flat logo? thanks
I love the cx shoes. I wear size 9. My all stars are 8.5, but my CX shoes are 9. Should I go 8.5 for the chuck 70s? We don't have a shoe store that carries them.
I'm thinking about the 70's in the color black, I usually wear vans in a 8 in a half and don't know if I should get them, they look really cute but I'm just not sure, any opinions??
What about the width? I have wide feet but I'm a woman. Being unisex shoes, the standard width should fit, but I'm still not sure, I have never owned a pair of Converse shoes. (Thanks for the vid! I'll be buying the Chuck 70's, once I decide on the width).
Stumbled on this vid as I am looking at replacing my everyday sneaks as they are splitting where the sole meets the rubber surrounds, both sides. They are Chuck 70 lows, that I thought where normal Chuck Taylors. Only realised that they were 70s after watching this vid. Tbh I was a bit disappointed. I usually wear my Chucks to destruction and this pair, in my opinion, failed prematurely. Not sure I'll replacing them with 70s....still thinking I have worn Converse sneaks almost exclusively for 40 years and have about 8 pairs on the go at the moment - mostly One Star
Do the 70s just give the appearance of having a thicker sole or is the sole actually noticeably bigger? I don’t want it to add to my height I think I’m already a little tall lol
I ordered the 70s and I returned them. They just look weird. They have a weird gloss, the sole is too wide, which gives them a bit of a hoovercraft look, and the nose tip is too small. Aesthetics can be in very little details. So only regular chucks for me.
I love my CONVERSE I have been wearing them most of my life since the 90s I love both of them Chuck 70 and Chuck All Star Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star my favorite shoes of all time I like the Chuck 70 better I love my CONVERSE size us 13 for me I stay with my true size if I go down in size it will be way too small for me not enough toe room for me
The 70s are better overall but 2 things that are better about the Classic All Stars are One) the colors used on the ankle patch (in addition to inferior colors on the 70s, it's not even authentic to the colors used in 1970 and 2) the classic All Stars have tongue holders and the 70s don't. I think not including tongue holders on the 70s was a big mistake.
Hi. I have a pair of 70's. I agree about the lace tongue holders. Two other negatives for me. I don't like the black heel tab or the ankle patch. I'd much prefer the blue star and the simpler but more stylist ALL * STAR heel tab. I'm going to make my own modifications on those two points. The inner lining at the heel can wear through quickly so yhat needs reinforcing . Converse Customer Service, I found is very good
So the 70's are basically PF Flyer's but with a 30$ price increase? Guess they can get away with that since PF Flyer's went out of business a couple years ago. Edit: PF Flyers are still being made, apparently. But the price went up to $80-$90. Oh well, can't have everything in life I guess.
P.S. I forgot to add, Chuck Taylor's today are unisex. Growing up in the 70's as a teenage boy, only teenage boys and young men wore Chuck Taylors. The world is very strange in 2024 with men dressing feminine and women dressing masculine.🤔
What a weird comment. Can you please explain in detail what’s wrong with them being unisex? Is there something masculine about the shoes design or something?

The 70's are significantly more cushioned. Much comfier.
@ same as BTO and summer series. No need to have the ugly gloss and rather weird nose of the 70s.
Thanks for this, in some pics, I couldn't tell the difference (online). Now I know that I still like the All Stars better. Thanks again!
Glad I could help!
i bought my first pair of converse in korea, i didn’t know the difference between these two but i’m glad the store only had chuck taylor’s. real happy i got the chucks
I wish they offered a non-cream colored rubber option for the Chuck 70s. Sometimes you want a brighter white for more of a visual pop.
I feel that!!! I had to go and buy some cream tees to coordinate better with the shoes haha
if you really want that clear white sole you should get the stussy collab, they're a little pricier but totally worth it imo
Gets dirty tho
100% i went with the white on white all stars due to the smokers teeth yellow on white chucks 70.
No
I trust this dudes take on the chucks lemme get a pair now
Can’t go wrong!!
