Hi mate good little series really enjoyed watching! I'm about a months wait into getting my 180 type X. Its due to arrive at grimsby within the next month or so (at a guess lol). How did you go about organising collecting the car from the docks? Do i have to go to the docks in order to pay the tax charges etc? Is it always better to go in person whe its ready for collection? I cant drive a van that can carry a car so i'll have to have someone else collect it for me. Any help with this stuff would be massively appreciated!

Are you importing the car through an importing agency? If so then they should take care of all the import duties to the government. They should also be able to give you instructions about collecting the car. You may have to pay for handling/storage fees when you collect the car though (not expensive). I had to because the car was in the port for a few days. I had to go the the offices of the shipping company that was used and pay them a fee, and in return they gave me paperwork to collect the car, and told me where in the port to go and collect the keys. If Grimsby is anything like Southampton it'll be a bit of a maze. I used my mum's Hilux and borrowed a trailer to collect my car, but if you're using a recovery driver then you'll want to meet them at the port and show him where the car is, because they'll have no idea otherwise. You should definitely be there in person, just in case something has happened to the car in shipping.

ive come back to this handy video now that my own 180SX has turned up! Im trying to find which video it is that you mentioned about sorting insurance? if its this one do you have a timestamp? haha sorry just struggling to find it. Did you need to take the car to a SVA/IVA prior to taking it for an MOT etc or was it as simple as make it road worthy then book an MOT test? nearing on registering now so got lots of questions haha. Hope your 180 is still doing you well! Cheers.

For insurance you can just insure using the chassis number if the car isn't registered. Most insurers will do that. You only need to take an imported car for an IVA if it's under 10 years old. Otherwise you just need a regular MOT. Make sure the MOT station knows the car isn't registered because they might need to look up how to enter it into the computer system. You can drive the car to the MOT and home again (if it passes) without plates as long as it's insured.

@@Scrubworks Thanks for the late night reply! thats a load of my mind ready for bed, I would have had to transport it all the way to Hull. I'll definitely call the place i'm taking it to MOT beforehand to make sure they're informed. Appreciate the help!
