Morris Minor Fast-ish Road Build Part 4: Modern Fusebox Install
In this much-belated installment of the Moggy build, I sort out the Minor's wiring, upgrading it with such luxuries as a 4-position key barrel, and a modern fusebox that takes bladed fuses.
Apologies for this video taking so long to get uploaded, winter has been surprisingly busy with non-car stuff.

DIY Ford Mustang Electric Fan Conversion 1966
มุมมอง 9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The original belt-driven fan on classic Mustangs works fairly well, but it wastes a lot of fuel and slows the warm-up of the engine. You can get electric fan conversion kits of course, but they're quite expensive. I decided to make my own electric fan kit using some electrical odds and ends, and a fan from a local scrapheap. All in all this cost me about £25 to do.
180SX Water Pump. More Lockdown Repairs.
มุมมอง 3714 ปีที่แล้ว
So after arriving back from a crucial supermarket run, my Nissan 180SX decided to dump half of its coolant on the ground. Closer inspection revealed the bearing seal on the water pump had let go. It was the factory pump and at 175000kms, well past due for changing, so I changed it along with the thermostat, also the factory one. Threw some new belts into the bargain as well.

    Those brackets look great! Awesome job 👍 I'm trying to figure out if I fix the old seats I have, but recently got some electric leather seats donated to the cause, they are a little wide, weigh a ton etc. Trying to figure out if I should buy a mig setup and make my own brackets vs go to a fabricator.

    • @Scrubworks
      @Scrubworks 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on whether or not you plan to expand your abilities and do more metal-working/welding in the future. If you just want to put in a pair of seats, then getting a fabricator to make the brackets will be much more cost and time efficient. Otherwise, if you want to take up welding, do invest. It's a very valuable skill.

    I honestly don’t know why you have gone to so much trouble to modify your braking system? I had a 1959/60 Morris 1000 with the original braking system with the existing set up but I install a PBR vacuum braking system that stopped my little Morris on a six pence! The engine got rebored out to equivalent to a 1100 cc with domed pistons. I also changed the cam shaft & fitted a Cooper S 3/4 race cam. Ported the inlet & exhaust in the head & fitted a free flow exhaust manifold! The engine was quite lumpy at idle. But at full throttle it went like the clappers. Worst thing I ever did was sell it to a friend of my ex wife’s friend who gave it to her son who wrote the car off because it had too much power that he couldn’t control !

    • @Scrubworks
      @Scrubworks ปีที่แล้ว

      1. After years of collecting parts, I had all the pieces to do it. 2. Marina pedal box installations used to be commonplace, but virtually all info about them now online has been lost. Now there's this video for people to reference. 3. I don't like external servo systems. They are messy and take up more space than necessary. 4. The original 8 inch drums are not great for fast driving. It doesn't matter how much you boost them, they fade and become inconsistent. Boosting them is arguably worse, since it reduces your ability to modulate the brake pedal and reduce heat. The Escort disc brake system I'm going to install in conjunction with this MX-5 master will be superior in just about every way. The better the brakes are, the later you can brake, which means more time on throttle, and makes the car faster. 5. This system is dual circuit, and therefore safer. 6. This engine will be replaced at some point in the future with a much faster one, probably a twin cam. Getting the brakes squared away now is expedient. 7. I've not seen anyone else use an MX-5 master with Ford discs, so doing something different is nice. 8. I prefer the top-hinging pedals. 9. I'm a tinkerer. If I see an opportunity to improve something. I'll usually take it. Ultimately, I'm doing it because I can. Being able to out-brake the young scallywags in their Corsas and Fiestas will also be fun. I hope that answers your question.

    • @Scrubworks
      @Scrubworks ปีที่แล้ว

      There's got to be some marks on it surely? I've never seen a dipstick without them. They can sometimes be very hard to see. Take the dipstick out and clean the end of it thoroughly, and then see if you can see any marks. If they're very faint you can try and scratch a new "full" marker into the metal with a sharp point.

    • @stefantrnacek1394

      Also with the vacuum why not drill and tap the inlet manifold for a fitting for the vacuum hose.

    • @Scrubworks
      @Scrubworks ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never really been a fan of rivets or nutserts. Besides, when you're sitting there with a welder and a bag of 100 M8 nuts, it just becomes the logical thing to do. As for the vacuum fitting, I thought about that, but the original carb will be used for literally 100 miles or so of running in, then will be removed. The original manifold and carb will be a lot more saleable if there isn't a hole in it.

      On a Mini that's right, but this is the correct orientation for a RWD gearbox. I bled the last of the air out off camera with someone to open the bleed nipple, and it only took a couple of goes to get the last of the air out, since it's such a short system. Works a charm :)

      There's no way I can fully diagnose the problem for you from here. If you want the fan on all the time, just wire the power feed to the ignition barrel so it comes on with the key. Run through the wires for the fan and make sure they're not shorting out somewhere. Make sure the fan has a good ground connection to the body as well.
