I'm afraid I am partially responsible for the demise of one of these. I had a 92 416GTi auto in BRG with half leather. The poor thing had a hard life- it was stolen twice, but recovered both times. Once, it was parked behind some ten ft high gates to an industrial unit which were rammed by thieves, one of the gates fell on it. It was flooded during the Worcester floods but after a few days drying out started first time,Then some silly cow caved in two doors attempting to park her 4x4 next to me. It looked shit but soldiered on for years, but I had by then lost any incentive to spend money on it and finally after no attention for about five years the engine objected to running with barely a cupful of filthy old oil and it died on the M62 just outside Leeds. I did feel sad as it was towed away, it had been totally reliable and had cost me nothing at all during my ownership.

That all sounds like incredibly bad luck. It seems rare that these cars receive much care or attention. This one has quite a few issues to deal with, being so old and worn out now. It essentially could do with a complete restoration but the owner doesn't have the money to dump on such a project. Hopefully we can just fix all the oily bits and keep the rust at bay so it stays on the road.

Scrubworks I wish I had kept it, it was probably the most reliable car I ever had. We were very much a rover family, we had a old P5, a 3500 and an SD1 when I was growing up. Dad taught me to drive in his 827 and my first car was a 214. I inherited the 416 from an aunt. I still hanker after an 800 or even a 75.

Here you can see, a wild Ti lurking in the bushes. They are very hard to capture, but normally appear when there's an XUD engine around

Sorry I'll behave, these rovers are nice cars. Glad to see it getting some love. Does he still have it? Any more videos in the making?

Joe doesn't have it anymore I'm afraid. He was sort of enthusiastic about slowly improving it but also was reluctant to sink money into it. I and another friend did do a cambelt and water pump change on it about 6 months after this video was made, and we found that the belt had been done before and the inlet cam was out of time. We timed it back to the right place and the engine ran better than ever, but then at its next MOT it failed on emissions and the front subframe had rotted, so it would need to be replaced, so Joe called it a day and sold it locally. I did see it actually a couple of months ago parked near Joe's place, so at least it's still on the road.

I googled that and it came up with the ignition module, not the rotor arm. Nice find though, Joe's been looking for an ignition module as well.
