He’s happy with how his life is, and he’s happy to have his best friend scoob with him too.
I think the biggest appeal for Shaggy is that he is very much himself all the time. He doesn't put up some facade or acts like what someone else wants him to be, he just puts everything about who he is and what he cares about out there. He doesn't force himself onto another person or does anything specific to gain their attention, it's always been up to the other person to decide if they like what Shaggy is about or not. He doesn't lead anyone on either, we've seen him reject people politely (or aggressive in the past if it was needed). Yeah, he can try to swoon someone else or pretend to have attributes that he doesn't naturally have, we've seen that a few times in multiple series but at the end of the day Shaggy is lovable because he is the definition of "what you see is what you get."

Shaggy actually IS extremely brave. He's extremely afraid of monsters but he doesn't let that stop him from helping out his friends, who literally have a job catching monsters. Outside of Scooby Doo himself, Shaggy just makes the franchise. There's a reason why this guy carried years of his own spin off shows and movies.

I think they knew Shaggy and Scooby always carried the franchise so they tried to do without them in Velma. It could've been a good idea, with a writing room that didn't have the same sense of humor as a 14 year old boy. With good writing they couldve made the characters likeable

His best friends a talking alien-dog, he eats dog biscuits regularly, he's dealt with the most ghosts/monsters out of all of them, somehow is a chick magnet, pulls skills out of his ass, somehow doesn't look like he weighs more than 125 pounds despite his rampant eating habits, is a god, comes from a rich family, once got out of the draft thanks to said dog friend, went to college, was a teacher once, has used magic multiple times, has been turned into a monster on multiple occasions, helped run a summer camp, was part of a MASSIVE ecological disaster, DESTROYED THE WORLD, caused a political turmoil in his home town, is an astronaut, canonically genderbent, was able to resist a magically hypnotic song, is friends with real life magic users, went to hell, is probably one of if not THE fastest human alive (even with his goofy ass run), is friends with an alien, is friends(?) with the goblin king and he and scooby were the only ones who got to keep their memory, has meet superheroes from various companies, is friends with both the band Kiss and WWE, and samurai fought an ancient demon and won

One thing that sticks out in my memory of Shaggy is the fact he eats SO MUCH, yet never gets fat. He’s like a mackbanger who actually puts in the work to somehow burn through all the calories they intake. No wonder he’s secretly the strongest lololol!
