Funny thing about Shaggy is, in one of the cartoons it's offhandedly mentioned he's richer than Daphne since his family owns part of the scooby snack company-which is why they never seem to run out of scooby snacks-but he never brings it up or anything as thats not who he is. Shaggy actually IS extremely brave. He's extremely afraid of monsters but he doesn't let that stop him from helping out his friends, who literally have a job catching monsters. Bravery isn't not having fear, bravery is not letting fear keep you down. And by that logic shaggy is the bravest of the gang.

I think the biggest appeal for Shaggy is that he is very much himself all the time. He doesn't put up some facade or acts like what someone else wants him to be, he just puts everything about who he is and what he cares about out there. He doesn't force himself onto another person or does anything specific to gain their attention, it's always been up to the other person to decide if they like what Shaggy is about or not. He doesn't lead anyone on either, we've seen him reject people politely (or aggressive in the past if it was needed). Yeah, he can try to swoon someone else or pretend to have attributes that he doesn't naturally have, we've seen that a few times in multiple series but at the end of the day Shaggy is lovable because he is the definition of "what you see is what you get."
Man they really downgraded our king. I don’t mind him being black since he reminds me of Marlon Wayans in the scary movie franchise, but the writing for him was so bad in the Velma show. It’s a disgrace to the entire Scooby Doo franchise.

Shaggy always gave me hope from Scooby-Doo whenever he had a love interest that wasn't Velma. I was always afraid that being at tall scrawny guy no one would like these types of people, but whenever I was young and I saw Shaggy finding a love interest, it gave me hope. That was the movie where they were in the game. She wasn't real, and the Scooby Snacks were required to advance to the next level, which is why he just vanished after grabbing them.
For those not in the know, Shaggy actually reciprocates feelings for the girl at 0:13, but she and her dog (who falls in love with Scooby) turn out to be a aliens that have to leave Earth, resulting in a sad goodbye between the four of them, with the hope of one day seeing each other again. It might be my favorite Scooby Doo movie for that storyline alone, lol

I think the biggest appeal for Shaggy is that he is very much himself all the time. He doesn't put up some facade or acts like what someone else wants him to be, he just puts everything about who he is and what he cares about out there. He doesn't force himself onto another person or does anything specific to gain their attention, it's always been up to the other person to decide if they like what Shaggy is about or not. He doesn't lead anyone on either, we've seen him reject people politely (or aggressive in the past if it was needed). Yeah, he can try to swoon someone else or pretend to have attributes that he doesn't naturally have, we've seen that a few times in multiple series but at the end of the day Shaggy is lovable because he is the definition of "what you see is what you get."

One thing that sticks out in my memory of Shaggy is the fact he eats SO MUCH, yet never gets fat. He’s like a mackbanger who actually puts in the work to somehow burn through all the calories they intake. No wonder he’s secretly the strongest lololol!

Also, drop the "be yourself," crap. Being yourself only works if you're really attractive or if you happen to be her type. Women have preferences and can be very quick to prove it. I think they knew Shaggy and Scooby always carried the franchise so they tried to do without them in Velma. It could've been a good idea, with a writing room that didn't have the same sense of humor as a 14 year old boy. With good writing they couldve made the characters likeable
