    Really appreciate you making this video. I had to do it on a friends X3 with the N20 engine, and this really helped a lot. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, and honestly the hardest part was just getting to the the Valvetronic motor by taking the valve cover off.

    great video, one hint to make it simpler: you only need to remove the front bucket, the actuator comes out with the back bucket in place. Also you only need to remove the back injector to remove each bucket so in this case to do the whole job you only need to remove one injector (#2 cylinder injector) cheers!

      @@VTI2CLN my comment was for a n55 motor... I don't really know about a n20... no video but if you perform the top video you will see if you need to take the back bucket off. For me I only had to twist the actuator off

      Any info on the injector seals?
      What issues did you have?
      Mine is being a pain starting and when it does not can’t get any revs or power and it will rev to 1500rpm then it will idle at 500 and stall!

      @@jimbojacksonmurray9841 perfect, that will save me a lot of hassle.
      Can I ask what issues you had with the valvetronic?
      I’ve had random clicking coming from it, sometimes warm restart issues where it rough idle or stalls, and now today I’ve lost all power, rough idle, stalling and won’t rev past 1500rpm. If you put it in D or R it goes to 500rpm and stalls.
      I have no fault codes either. I’ve got videos up on my account.
      Beyond a nightmare as the car is unusual now

      @@TS-ji1me I had no other symptoms. Just the loud clicking when I unlocked the doors. I also had the typical valve cover leak

    If I may, I just did this exact job today. On the N20 4 cylinder engine, you have to remove the Number 1 and number 4 cylinder injectors and both injector buckets/housings have to be removed. You do not have to remove all of the injectors. Be sure to return the same injector in the same cylinder that it came out of. Each injector is calibrated to its cylinder. You cannot get the servo motor out without removing both housings. The next part that I didn't understand was how if the eccentric shaft was spring loaded, how could you leave it in the maximum position without it springing back? As it turns out, you will find that on both the minimum and maximum positions, the shaft goes "over center" and the spring pressure is released. When the shaft moves off of either of those positions, the spring tension takes over. As you are turning the allen wrench on the servo motor to the maximum position, you will feel the eccentric shaft sort of "roll over" to a position where it has no tension. When you reach the maximum position, there isn't any spring tension on the motor so the shaft stays in its maximum position until the servo motor moves it away from this position. I hope this helps explain how PANDYDIY did this repair.

    You made this really easy to understand all n around, thanks! My brother just bought X5 and his idle randomly gets really rough and then the car goes into safe mode & it Won’t leave it unless I use my scanner. I’m pretty sure this is the issue, Is it always best to replace the servo motor, needle pin bearings, etc? It looks like you just replaced just the motorized work gear motor itself... This makes me appreciate my little E46 & it’s simplicity a lot lol

      Since my issue was just the servo motor itself then I ended up only working on that. I really try avoid anything BMW related since they atleast at my point of view are over engineered. I would prefer to stick with older N52 INLINE 6 engines and older since they seemed to be more reliable and little less complicated.

    А зачем его менять? Если вальветроник начал плохо работать, значит там выработка на шлицах вала и моторчика, менять нужно и вал тогда. Просто сменить моторчик проблем не решит.

    Thanks for the video. My f30 has the valvetronic code and the acceleration is very very slow. Dealership said to replace valvetronic. This will fix the acceleration problem correct? Car shows drivetrain malfunction

      The amount of views this video has gotten is just a proof how common is servomotor failure on these engines. You might want to scan fault codes and google them to see whats the cause of these causes before start spending money on amy part. But if dealership said servomotor then I'd assume they know what they talking about.

    Hi, thanks for the video. I've been trying to do the relearn procedure on my E91 with the N55 engine and, before the procedure starts, I am getting the error "Fault: Voltage supply". Any idea why? Or what voltage supply is it referring to? The car was on a wall jumper and had a constant 13.9 volts as shown by the DME. Thanks!
    P.S. For extra context, I am trying to fix an "2DCF Valvetronic system: No movement detected" error. Car runs fine, pulls fine, gets good gas millage and just has this error there that is always current and can not be deleted. Actuator was changed, wiring was checked, eccentric shaft looked good, no visual damage and moved freely.

    What would happen if you don’t put the Eccentric shaft back to the open position before you complete the job? I recently had this job done and I’m experiencing issues. Any help would be appreciated.

      Not sure, maybe you need to relearn max and minimum stop for shaft, I unfortunately dont have a answer for that

      No it definitely would not cause low compression issue, scan for codes and find out why you have no start. Not sure how injectors are on these, if they need coding or not

      @@pandydiy it started with a misfire 1-3-4 replace injector did the coding and after car didn’t wanted to start check for spark ok fuel ok check compression low 1-3-4 90 psi num2 119 psi add oil on 4 cylinder compression jump to 160psi I’m thinking piston ring what else can cost a no compression out of timing ?any tips

      I didnt replace seals on injectors , resetting/relearn with engine off first and it should tell you to start car etc, diagnostic tool should give you exact instructions how to follow thru the process

      New servomotor teach in proccess is done with engine running, your diagnostic tool should give you step by step instructions.

      Unfortunately to teach in your new servomotor then you'd need a diagnostic tool which is capable doing so.

    In which menu is the start up valvetronic process? I have the MK906BT and I can't find the option to do the process on an N20 engine. Thanks

      You should find it under engine management menu / ECU and check ACTIVE TEST OR SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu, sometimes even before going to all the menues you have a TAB for SERVICE or HOT FUNCTIONS

      You can disconnect battery for sure, in case you didnt no big deal, you just have to clear all error codes that appeared when battery was connected and connectors was disconnected

      Unfortunately i wouldn't know, you probably can drive it to the shop nice and easy but i wouldn't recommending to drive without getting it calibrated. If not getting it calibrated then why even do the work and spend money 🙃

    When i unlock my door theres a clicking noise and sometimes rough idle. I bought the same part in video (come from turkey too) but before i take it to a garage i would like to know rough labour costs. One garage said itll be £45 plus vat and another said £160 so not sure whats the price please help. Its a 2013 m135i

      In USA FL I was quoted $550 dollars , if you can get it replaced for 45 british pounds I would definitely let them do it.

      Hey Sam, if you follow the instructions on the scanner then it should get everything relearned as my scanner did.

    What trouble codes were stored in the PCM or what were the symptoms before the valvetronic actuator was replaced? I got a no start condition on a 2013 BMW 328xi N20 with a lot a trouble codes stored, I cleared the codes and the

    Can a bad valvetronic actuator cause a no start condition?

      Are you sure your timing has not jumped ? Its pretty common problem on those engines to jump timing due to tensioner or chain guide failure and that would definitely cause no start condition, you can perform a compression test to see if you have compression in cylinders, they should not much different from each other no more than 15psi difference Id say.
