A few things, war is not normal, no matter how much society glamourizes it. Everyone’s nervous system has limits, and we do not discuss this enough in healthcare today. Imagine for a moment, if I came to the emergency room with chest pain having a heart attack and you asked me to go on the exercise treadmill before treatment, you would think I was crazy as a health care practitioner. Stress is what kills, and if someone does not realize, identify and care properly we coin this to be a ‘nervous breakdown’. This is not a moral failure or break in one’s strength, as mentioned, we all have limits and as a society we need to be better attuned and educated, and most importantly accepting and compassionate to those who have experienced these limits. A loving community is everything!
