I'm an American living here in South Africa. I use to work at the National Archives in Pretoria and was recording all the many records there. I noticed many Jews had come from Lithuania and made a home here. I bought a book on the early Jews who came to South Africa and the wonderful difference they have made to the society here. I'm glad to have found this video. God bless you, your memories and community.

When I saw the demolitions I was like.... Why?.... Why?...... Now if you think of the Cape Flats and various townships where people were redistributed to, there is mostly devastation, fear, danger, crime and violent death, resulting in the incarceration of youth. 😔

Enjoyed this, and on a different note in UK if it wasn't for the Jews Hampstead, Golders Green, Hendon and Edgware would be another suburb, I thank you very much

Too bad the current South African government isn't trying to bring back or foster or push or encourage for multi-cultural and multi-ethnic communities to return or re-establish around the country. All the stories I hear of people who lived in district six are of non-racialism and living in peace with one another. Some political parties are just sowing division among South Africans :(

True. Would have been really nice if district six and such places would be rebuilt, with Maboneng inspiration in mind.

    Twierdza
    Strona 6
    Pieśń dawidowa I
    Bez chmury obraz nieba gładki
Panie i daj pokój w dzień Matki
I brak innych co za nas walczą
Skoro nie Ty Boże nasz tarczą
    Niech pokój żywy Twojej mocy
    Obfitość boskich wież pół nocy
Daj pokój Panie za dni żywych
    Spokoju istnienie szczęśliwych
    Ponieważ nie ma innych którzy
Walczą za nas tu pośród burzy
Lecz gdy nie Ty Boga naszego
W boju do zmagań brata mego
Pan nasz pokojem daje znak ci
I przez względy na moich braci
    Towarzystwa wieściłem spokój
Daj Panie u dni naszych pokój
    Boje przeszłości nam wybaczą
Oto brak jest innych co walczą
Za nas gdy nie Ty Boga mego
    Braci starcie z serca słodkiego
    Spotkanie niebios chwila błoga
    Przyczyna na dom Pana Boga
    Szukałem dobre rzeczy Ciebie
Spotykamy się tak lub w niebie
Dał pokój Pan i za naszych dni
Spokój za którym me serce cni
Jeśli dzisiaj nikt za nas walczy
    Przeżyję w cieniu twojej tarczy
Gdyby nie Ty to kto Boże nasz
    Ty bożnic braci Panie poznasz
    Poproście w Jeruzalem spokój
    Niech wschodzi z Izraela pokój
By się powiodło bo cię kocham
    Za spokój Jeruzalem szlocham
Panie daj spokój dla moich dni
    Spokój Jeruzalem mnie się śni
    Ponieważ braknie teraz innych
    Co zawalczą o nas niewinnych
Jeśli nie Ty z Boga wspólnego
    Prośby pokój z słowa naszego
    Trwa chwała Ojca Syna Ducha
    Świętego w wieczności otucha
Tak było na początku dziś trwa
    Przy mnie Jeruzalem pokój ma
I wieki będzie świat bez końca
    Rozbłysk jasności Jego słońca

I just laugh at the people, in the comments, who do not know that there used to be Jews living in District 6.
I saw in a book a picture of a synagogue. Some aunties recollecting their memories of how they used tease some Jewish shop owners/their wifes who can't speak English or Afrikaans properly. 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks very interesting ,the buildings sadly looked like they needed to go.today we hear of old infrastructure collapsing on people.im sure theses types of things caused alot of trouble socially but sometimes it happens it's still happening today where forigeners and illigal immigrants live in old hostels which eventually become dangerous.Very interesting story.I personally do not see everything about seperate development as a bad thing ,as many local tribes and people did not loose thier culture and languages as fast as it's happening today. In a way it preserved some things for the future generations, the new government has not in my oppinon brought people together anymore than apartheid apparently divided us .I actually had better relationships with people from other cultural backgrounds during apartheid than I do today . I went to a Catholic school so "apartheid" never really effected me.I was raised by a Xhosa lady for the first years of my life.I personally have never felt apart from anyone.Sadly the new culture developing in South Africa is way to influenced by(English) American media .This now seems to me to be a type of colonial time more than anything historically.local trade and business and culture is being destroyed by consumer international culture.big business fast food and plastic from this .The little corner stores, pad stalls ,home made goods ,and crafts have drastically declined.Sundays are not quite anymore .

    • @cdcarelse796
      @cdcarelse796 ปีที่แล้ว

Firstly Apartheid didn't effect you negatively because you ware white.
Secondly the Xhosa lady was probably your domestic /meit.
Yes the country was in a better state than now but people of color still suffer today because of it. Majority whites still benefit from apartheids inequality through generational wealth.

@@cdcarelse796 shame sorry. I personally think only Jesus can help this country ,I understand ,yes, if the African elected government had done better for it's natives African decendent people you would have room to cry . I personally think maybe the Bantu Stan's would have worked better than the ANC government which chooses not to see coloured and mixed people and( people from European/ mixed ancestry as you might know most white people have 4%mixed ancestry with Khoi San or free slaves or slaves ) who Whether we like it or Not contributed to the country be it for good or bad depending on our opinions as it's fellow African citizens . If the Xhosa lady was not working for us she would of had to raise her children alone without an income place to stay or food ,because the father or father's were" missing in action "somewhere . I'm sure you know apartheid was implemented by the only foreign born priminister of the country and was abolished by a native of hugenot decent de Klerk .People are influenced by bad ideas no matter the skin colour .I don't think the current government has done any better and everything that was built by our ancestors has gone into a state of disrepair and decay .I personally like nature so if nature takes over I'm ok with that .You can't blame the past almost 30 years later ! The ANC was given a country that was never like it was before with rail systems and roads functioning water and electricity systems these things all came from overseas .not that I personally like them but it's use full for people who seek education and western imported ideas because they have forsaken thier own traditional lives and culture.im sorry that black South Africans never really had a good chance in South Africa because now it's totally overun by foreigners because the current government doesn't know how to govern ,even his own farm was broken into 😅 whatever . My hope is in heaven . Jesus is building a mansion for me Im not going to cry about this country as the scriptures say I'm also just a foreigner here in this world. Have a nice day lets not fight . I suppose some of what wrote might seem offensive I'm not sure . Here it goes .I personally don't think generational accumulated wealth is a problem ,if your parents are wise enough to store up for thier kids like the Bible says I agree. Some parents are careless and don't care for the next generations to come .done parents don't even care about the current generation.
