It depends! I taught with just my teaching license for 7 years until a school required me to get one. If you haven’t taught ESL before, I recommend getting one as the methods will be different than teaching the subject you’re certified in.

There are a few that accept non-native speakers, but they usually pay you much less which is why I recommend freelance teaching for NNS.
