I work for one of the esl schools you mentioned. I have to say that sometimes the materials provided are really not that good quality, and you still have to supplement them. Or you could use your own materials which takes time to create, and you are not paid for that. There is also an issue of your students' expectations vs the course materials the school provides. So, at $10 an hour it is really not ideal.

Yes. To be eligible you must have full-time residency in one of the listed countries. This is because their background check company can only check in the eligible countries (not even all part of the UK!)

It really depends on the company. For example, I have heard of people getting hired on Outschool and not opening their first class for 6 months! I recommend taking a break first so you feel refreshed and happy to be teaching. Best of luck and let me know if you need any help!
You need a TEFL, one year of experience and a bachelor's degree. Minimum 20 hours per week which is why I didn't include it in the video since many teachers who are traveling and teaching cannot commit to this. Pay is $16 per hour for native speakers, $5 per hour for non-native speakers.
There was a law change in August 2021 which caused the major Chinese based companies to shut down. Some of those companies have changed where they are based or no longer serve Chinese students are are opening up again (aka VIPKid)

VIPKid is no longer serving the Chinese market. Most teachers have stopped working for them as the situation was evolving and uncertain. There is VIPKid Global reaching students from other countries.
Are you living in the US, Canada, NZ, AU, England or Wales? You must have residency (not the same as citizenship) in one of these countries to teach on OS.
When you are an online teacher you typically are considered an independent contractor, not an employee. I recommend talking to a tax agent to see how online teaching will impact you. For me, I save a percentage of what I earn and pay taxes quarterly. Everyone’s tax situation is different so be sure to get professional advice.

Native speaker typically means that English is your first language and you are from a country like the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland or South Africa. Near l-natives come from places like Singapore, Jamaica, India, etc. Most companies will consider you to be a non-native speaker. Yes. Outschool hires non-natives, but there is a residency requirement for the background check. Camlby and Engoo do as well but there are some level requirements and the pay isn't good. I always recommend working as a freelancer as a non-native speaker!

that's because the Chinese government doesn't want it's people learning words like "due process", "civil rights:" " free speech" Yeah, there are Chinese versions of these words but don't exactly have the same meaning and usually some with negative connotations. Due Process in China is more about what the government can do, then what it cant.

Some companies will require a degree, others will require a TEFL and some will require both. The only option that doesn’t require this is Outschool because it’s not an ESL company, but you still need to have relevant experience in your subject area. Your Teachable Moment also doesn’t require this, but they are only offering recorded classes now (no live classes).
Some companies hire South Africans because they are considered native speakers but some companies don’t because of loadshedding. For other African nations I recommend freelance teaching since most companies either won’t hire you based on passport or pay really low wages to non-native speakers. Most online ESL companies only hire specific passports. You can try marketplaces like Preply or freelance if you are Nigerian.

For other African nations I recommend freelance teaching since most companies either won’t hire you based on passport or pay really low wages to non-native speakers.
