Great Job on the Video and honesty of what the job takes. I gotta tell you though you knocked it out of the ballpark with the removal of the fuse information instead of cutting into the wiring system which is risky although it only half works because when that is done the system is still trying to function thus leaving you with the red light illuminated on dash panel annoying you while driving. But you corrected a big issue that us S Class rollers have had to deal with by just removing the fuse, and by doing so thus the system no longer functions and there is no need for it to GREAT JOB my Fellow DIY'er.
Just stick with the Airmatic. The defining quality of this car is the silky smooth ride, why go to conventional shocks? You lose that magic carpet ride!
My 2000 s500 just popped the rear aur bags. I had to buy all 4 when i bought car salvage title. I had a blowout on the freeway last week. All I did was I put a different size tire on it for 2 days. My mechanic I've been going to him for about 30 years. I'm wiping out the airmatic system and going with coils too! After going through this and understanding it Mercedes over engineers these cars. You should be able to swap tires off and do things that you need to do without popping a airbag or messing with the sensors this is ridiculous. I'm done with the airmatic system!! Now i might do the air bags right and get fast switch air bags down the road. Next time i have to replace this im going with real air bags!! This system its nice until it breaks then your screwed!
@ImStep-by-Step took me two days each day took about like 4- 5 hours. Keep in mind I did this as a solo job, with no help. So it took longer. The front struts where the easiest
I have a 2002, Mercedes S 500 on the way to work today. Hit a California pothole and I believe my spring broke. I can’t see you yet. Hopefully it gets me home. These are the worst shocks spend an extra money and get the better ones.
i mean it looks sick, stance everything is perfect ive been watching long time like 5 years or more ago i thought i do coil setup on my s320 inline 6 diesel but then there were some weird manufactuers who had stance like it is some off-road vehicle. Will see when i get my s painted+ side "skirts" welded then i might go for full suspension+ bushings upgrade, i know i did drive like 180km/h with my barn find s class and it were like all over the road, clearly rubber bushings gone due sitting a long time :P Done alot air struts one those so installation isnt really hard, more you do faster you get :D my record is 14mins with rear shoks m8 took time once and i blasted nuts and connectors off + added new shocks :D did that because benz dealer told me oh uh ah.... 4 hours job atleast..... ye sure :D
@Kill Switch Garage thanks bro. Its good not having to worry about the suspension failing again with the swap. Not hard except for the seized botls and nuts and the Alan screws on the Air struts. Changing all the bushings at the same time is definitely the way to go. Good luck with the project and I'll look out for your video on it. Thanks again 👍
Good afternoon want to do this same conversion but been looking around can the ones you ordered fit on the 2002 s430 as well and do you happen to have a link
This is amazing man but I'm just so frustrated because I've searched the whole internet and no one is saying which fuse in the engine bay you have to remove 🤦♂️
Explained starting at the 21:14 minute mark. It is a 30amp fuse and the only airmatic fuse on the driver side under the hood. Check the diagram or Google diagram for your year and model.
What fuse did you pull and on what year vehicle? Because mine is a 04 S530 and I’m wondering if it has the same fuse setup. Please show which fuses were pulled.
Explained starting at the 21:14 minute mark. It should be the only 30amp airmatic related fuse on the driver side under the hood. Your 2004 might have a slightly different fuse setup. Check your diagram or google. This was a 2000 model. Good luck
I JUST DID MY REAR AIR SUPENSION MERCEDES S430 AMG YOU DID NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE UPPER LINK THE BOLT AT THE LOWER LINK IS WHAT YOU REMOVE .NOW TAKE SISSIOR JACK WITH A BLOCK OF WOOD ON TOP IT WI SPREAD THE LOW PART IS WHERE THE SHOCK IS BOLTED IN JACK THE CAR HIGHER AND PULL THE SHOCK OUT AT A ANGLE10 OCLOCK FROM UNDER THE WHEEL WELL BREAK HOSE MAY BE IN THE WAY .DO NOT CUT THE WIRE THAT IS ON THE SHOCK SUPENSION IT CAN BE UN PLUG FROM THE TOP HARNESS. 3 BOLTS TOTAL REMOVED
i just replace my air system and i got the same springs u have but i feel that my front is a lil low but i see that your rims are bigger then what i have on mine i have the 16s for now
@Onekeycargarage I just got mine in the mail thanks for the video question ! The fronts are they adjustable ? Under the hood the 3 nuts that need to be tightened the middle bolt on the strut what's the purpose of that screw ? Thanks

Thank you. Much appreciated!
Thank you!
I finished installing my same set as yours maxspeedingrods I have 18" front and back but front is super low any help would be appreciated thanks
You can adjust them with the tool included, or a shop can assist with the adjustment. Congrats!
Did you resolve the issue? I have the same problem, it's undrive-able, looks like it did before with bad struts
Just stick with the Airmatic. The defining quality of this car is the silky smooth ride, why go to conventional shocks? You lose that magic carpet ride!
Are the rears bumpy after the conversion?

Also replaced the airmatic shocks out of my s430, with some strutmasters kit conversion. So far it's really smooth
Did it yourself? How much time?

Fuse #9 is the only 30amp fuse there. Is that the one you took off? Thanks for the informative video.

Hi do you need to terminate the air lines? I got a kit from suncore it didn’t come with terminators

On W220 2000-2006 it is fuse number 9 on the driver side in engine bay
I just did the Arnott coilover conversion kit on my W221 s550. Rides great, ride height is perfect/normal. Easy DIY job.
Where do I get this for a glc amg 43 coupe 2018
I cant wait to see more video’s on the s class great video
Thank you!
You put those crappy xspeed coilovers on such a nice car. Arnott coilovers are the best that go with the s220
Normally gives lights error signal when the battery is low
Great work! How much would a job like this cost me on a 2003 S430 from a diy mechanic?
Depends not sure. I would shop around

@Onekeycargarage I just got mine in the mail thanks for the video question ! The fronts are they adjustable ? Under the hood the 3 nuts that need to be tightened the middle bolt on the strut what's the purpose of that screw ? Thanks

Thank you very much, it's the cheapest I've seen. How about its performance? Do you feel good?
@@crvlovers1 it drives good. Install on the rear was a bit tricky if doing it alone.
Thinking about converting to coilovers but my rear bags are still good can you only do the fronts or have to do all 4 Thanks
All 4 because the entire system is connected.
