    Excellent camera work, lighting, positioning yourself out of the way so we can see your hands work and not the back of your head😉. Always amazes me how you expert mechanics can almost literally do the job “with one hand tied behind your back” bec that hand is sometimes holding the camera. Also, knowing that you worked at the dealership tells me that you you performed this maneuver in the best possible way. Kudos to you Sir and thank you for giving confidence to this “shade tree mechanic”.

    thanks for this video. Today I have been replacing rear strout in my S500, and in one moment needed help or advice, your video did it :) In my case the brake calipers stayed in place, and also I did not unscrew bottom arm. To remove strout I have used a strong steel bar lever and soft protection foams to push down whole wheel system and it worked like a charm. Also pressure pipe I have installed different way, and screw in place.. Anyway repair were succesful, took me almost 2 hours to complete and tomorrow I', going to replace other side, probably in half of that time.. It is not that hard as front strouts.

    Having reviewed the video from Bilstein (air strut manufacturer), and found that the rear suspension could be replaced without removing the brake caliper, simply squeeze the strut carefully through the tight sapce.

    • @MercedesTech
      @MercedesTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The brake line is my biggest concern when doing this repair. I try to avoid getting even close to stretching it. If your try to do a flat rate job, go ahead. But I wasn’t and usually aren’t in a hurry in my repairs. The lower suspension has to bend down quite a bit to get it out. If you compress the old strut (if you can) cool, but it’s not recommended to compress a new strut and I don’t think possible as they are very stiff.

    My 2005 s500 airmatic is just leaning on the passenger rear. It is worst in the morning but will air up once i start the car. I have no warning lights at all. the other sides are sitting fine. Do you think this is a strut issue? or could be it be a sensor or valve block etc?
    also how many hours of labor is this usually at an independent shop to do one strut? thanks for posting this informative video

    Awesome video - very helpful to know what is involved. I am currently in the middle of this project and it was quite tough to take out the rear strut. I had to loosen the 18mm bolt few turns where the spring arm connected to the frame. in terms of re torquing (the last bolt to torq) that bolt, does it need to be done when the car is on the correct level on the ground or can it be re tighten with the jacked position?

      You should be able to use the old one, especially if it’s still on the line. There’s a small risk of it leaking but I’ve never seen it personally. You don’t really want to spread it apart as they do crack in half very easily. Otherwise you may be able to get a replacement at the dealer separately or online

      Hi, I replaced the relay. The fuse is good. The compressor starts and the car raising sign-indicator turned on, but it didn't do it, still high on the driver side and low on the passenger side (no change); after multiple tries, I turned the car off for a while and turned on, the compressor didn't run, seems the relay may be burnt?? Not sure what is going on :(

    • @MercedesTech
      @MercedesTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seam more likely that your valve block is hanging up. Not sure why only one side of the car would not raise. Do you mean only the right rear corner isn’t raising? I’d that’s the case, I’d check to be sure your ride height sensor for the low corner is plugged in and not damaged.

    I gotta raise the BS flag on your demo. Having just doing this job tonight, there was no way in hell my lower arm was going to budge with the sway bar link installed. Even then, I had to loosen the inboard bolt on the lower arm. Note to anyone else doing this, tighten that inboard bolt with the car back on the ground. I went with the cheapest chinese air struts I could find. If it lasts 2 years, that's long enough to send this miserable joke of a mercedes FAR OUTTA MY LIFE! And mine only has 40k miles, looks like a time machine it's so clean. Hope someone else loves it enough to put up with its horrible build quality and quirky electronics. No thanks! F these cars.
