the secret to deep drill mining is to extend the "up piston" fully before putting your "down pistons" in. you'll be able to get more down pistons in that way. in space, i have gone as far as 4 up pistons, extended them fully then placed my down pistons. it does take some trial and error to get the speed right. an alternative is to use programable blocks to extend the pistons. this way you can control exactly how far the pistons extend. drill heads can drill 1 block deep without missing any ore/stone. that is the size of the drill head, so it's easy to gauge. ask away if you have any questions. i'm no space engineers guru but i have learned a few things over the years. 🧐
Thank you so much for the tip and for helping me relearn about this game. :) It's going to get interesting on the first space flight. LOL Thank you for watching!
I’m glad you mentioned the up piston. I made that mistake myself before! 😁. I really enjoy making drill rigs. In fact, it’s making me want to go play right now! Lol
@ My inner gears are definitely turning. lol. I have been thinking about seeing if I could make a wheeled drilling machine to basically make a quarry for some chill mining. I’m not sure how good that will work though. I do have a miner or 2 I made in the past with a rotor or hinge on the front attached to drills as i drive, but I havent attempted to use it to make a quarry yet. Might be worth checking out after I’m done with base and landing pads, 😁
hope you have a good Christmas, a tip i would recommend running 3 yield and 1 speed as you get diminishing returns after 3 yield, also will refine that little bit faster =) hope it helps
Merry Christmas! I'll check out the percentages, maybe put speed modules on the assemblers. OR just put more cargo containers! 😁 Thank you for watching!
Yes up pistons extended, and down pistons collapsed for max height on build. Keep it simple too with the pistons, don't get overly fancy like the nested yarn ball looking ones. I'd also recommend putting the rotor at the drill head, 1 for stability, and 2 so you can support and then detach the rotor head at the bottom of the hole then retract the pistons and extend it more and finally reattach the head. Increase the strengths too so weight and joggle don't bother the pistons. /end2cents
Basically, you also did not duplicate your sorter setup between Refineries and Assemblers, etc. Personally, I just create 9 large storage containers and run Isy's Inventory Management script for my main base .. but putting in sorters will also work to move all the items along properly. EDIT: OK , you fixed the sorters.
Just an FYI. I use the non-DLC Refineries and Assemblers as they are stackable. I usually go 3 high for Refineries and 4 high for Assemblers and they end up the same height. I also use the non-DLC Large Storage Cargo Containers as they are also stackable with 6 ports instead of 4.

@@DC_David Enjoy yourself making the bestest drill rig ever! 😀

@@DC_David Like a pit mine?!!

@@VideoGameCyclist on the refineries and Merry Christmas yourself bud =)
Yes the refineries. My mind was faster than my typing. LOL
,02 in total for velocity pistons .. it kind of reminds me of the ship you build last time...
LOL

ok where you have conveyor junctions you should have used sorters, whitelist ores and then activate drain all. the ores will fly
Ah... OH I like it! Raining ore!! May I use it on future rigs? Thank you for commenting and watching!

@@JohnnyHughes1 I'm slow, but I get there. :)
