BMW N55 vs S55: Which One is Better?

  • The important changes between the N55 and S55 are the S55's closed deck block, stronger pistons, sodium filled exhaust valves, double-piston high pressure fuel pump, twin-turbo system compared to single turbo system, and revised intercooling system. As stated as the start of the video, the S55 uses 75% of the same parts as the N55, so they're very very similar.
The S55 basically just has a handful of modifications which allow it to reliably produce more power and be prepped for track use. As far as which one is better, I think it's pretty obvious what the answer to that question is. The S55 is just an upgraded N55, there's really no downsides to it.

BMW used true twin set up on the S55 bc it moves more air and can keep power and torque higher in the RPM range bc of it. Twinscrolls are more efficient, effective, and have way better throttle response, nd spool up. Twinscrolls tend to fall off in the higher rpm unless it is a larger twinscroll turbo like the one on the B58, which is why stock turbo B58s can make impressive numbers. A lot of single turbo kits like CES and couple other companies put a single twinscroll turbo on the N54.

Hi there nice vid by the way. I just want to ask and since I have a 2021 M2 competition, I decided to change the downpipes, the pipes going towards the back is from eisennman race with no exhaust just a straight pipe with no blockage whatsoever, then I change charge pipes, the crank hub and have the ECU tuned, thats it. Now my question is do I need to change my OEM intercooler to a CSF or any aftermarket dual pass charge air cooler? and I dont track this car but just drive it daily and drive it spiritedly and fast. Hope to hear from you the soonest.
