    Just some clarification on the crank hub issue. The owners who have experienced this have almost all been tuners. If you are maintaining a stock setup, you probably have nothing to worry about. I have 75k miles on a 2015 f82 with zero engine issues. I’ve owned bmws with both the n54 and n55 engines and this engine by far has been the most maintenance and problem free of all the engines. BMW has a winner with this engine.

    The majority of the crank hub is for manual cars and them money shifting, which you are correct, it is the hard shock that loosens the crank bolt. There are no recalls for the crank hub issue. Also less than 2% makes up the crank hub failure but I would get this fix if it puts anyone's mind at ease. The 2017+ MY got a different bed plate, thus from BMW should have less chance of a crank hub failure. There is a Bimmerpost thread on how many have had the crank hub issue and those are just who we know but it wasn't many, again 2%. Of course there are also undocumented crank hub failure that is not accounted for but 2% on a forum, and also no one I know of except 1 person that I heard of that had this issue in 3 of my M groups / clubs puts my mind at ease for the failure not being common.
    The DCT is solid as far as I know. I am in a few of the M groups / clubs and nv heard of a DCT going. I think the IC and the oil cooling should be upgraded for prolong track days but not a once or twice a yr kind of thing as the air to water cooled IC is pretty optimal and wayyy better than the air to air traditional IC. I believe majority of the issues are known on the N54 and N55 and not really the S55. Yes there are also oil leaks and from the oil housing gaskets and valve gaskets but I rarely see that in my F8x group. I myself am at 40k miles and stage 1 BM3 and the car has almost no metal material for the last Blackstone analysis. I also have an interval of 5k miles or 1 yr oil change instead of BMW's recommended 10k or 1 yr.
    One thing I would definitely say is that for those that opted out of the carbon ceramics, better brake fluid such as RBF 600 should be replaced b4 a track day. It was mushy after a few heats of 5 to 10 laps for each heat. When my rotors are done, I'm going with Ferado DS2500, StopTech pads, and stainless steel brake lines. We S55 ppl definitely should not have rod bearing problems like the S65 and such the V10 M5. The S55 is pretty solid.

    I owned and driven 6 BMWs inside family, can't remember one leaking. Currently daily drive an F80 Competition and watching this one would think they leak everyday. I'm no specialist but from general opinion if you change the chargepipes you pretty much good to go while having that crankhub in mind.

Will it have some of these same issues, or do the Alpina upgrades like mahle pistons, larger turbos and intercoolers, etc. fix several of these concerns? Thx

  • @sqeakyman123
    @sqeakyman123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you recommend doing the gaskets for the valve cover oil pan and the oil filter one like every 60k miles? Is that like a good bench mark milage to fix these issues before they leak or would you recommend it to be done at 50k miles

    • @cuttthroatperformance2752
      @cuttthroatperformance2752 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I would replace them once they leak. I wouldn't let them leak for a long time! But I'm just saying I would try getting the full value of the gasket until it fails. No reason to replace a gasket that still works. Especially for the oil pan, valve cover and oil filter housing. If those gasket fail there is no major damage, it just leaks oil, that being said I would wait until the gasket fails to replace.

    • @cuttthroatperformance2752
      @cuttthroatperformance2752 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I own a n55 and my valve cover leaked out at 108k miles and my oil pan leaked at 130k miles and currently I'm at 140k and so far my oil filter gasket hasn't leaked yet. So these gaskets do last a while in my opinion. Just keep an eye on your motor and you'll be fine

    @mactruccsmacktruck1176 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah that crankhub fix aint no joke. I the hunk of metal is like 1k for a quality one and half the shops quote hella install prices, which makes sense since your practically taking a part a large portion of the engine. I've seen pricing from freelancers as low as 2k but pricing as high as 9k from some shops for install/parts. Now with it done though it's nice knowing all I got wrong are those gasket oil leaks lmao

    It appears like you are trying to ‘do the right thing’ and make a video to assist potential owners in a buying decision. Don’t get me wrong, the sentiment is not lost on me, however, scaremongering helps no one, and it appears like you have completely over exaggerated the crank hub issue (which more or less doesn’t exist on a standard car). To suggest that you should have the rod bearings replaced just because you’re having the sump gasket changed is absurd! I would rather take my chances with the original factory fitted items than that let someone who is potentially under qualified, incompetent or just in a bad mood, mess with some of the most crucial components on any engine. You would be better spending the money changing the oil more frequently, then the rod bearings will likely outlast the car.
