I have this very laptop for a year and am super happy with it. I'm not a super hardcore gamer though but it plays decent enough for me. You have to adjust the fan curves though - initially when I got it, the fan was running high all the time. Also get a paint brush and dust the vents everyday. Great value when you can get it on a deal.
What temperature does your GPU typically run at? Because mine is constantly at 86 degrees which is it's Maximum before it thermal throttles and I don't know why, because in this video it isn't running that hot
@@Apathy474my tip would be to dissemble the laptop and change the old thermal paste to liquid metal or thermal grizzly cryonaught and that'll make a huge difference bro
@@HuuTonyTran Yeah I got the PTM 7950 put in this laptop about a year ago, my GPU usually doesn't even reach 80 degrees anymore and my CPU doesn't ever go past 92 when gaming. Obviously if I ran a benchmark on both of them at the same time for like an hour they'd reach max temps. I also have a Klim Mistral and I run it at max speed since I basically use this laptop as a desktop but the temperatures would be definitely better than stock even without a cooling pad and lifting the bottom of the laptop up would get you most of the benefit anyways. But yeah it's pretty clear the bottleneck before wasn't the actual cooling system but the transfer of heat to the cooling system
Loving this machine a year later. Awesome review, you helped me with this purchase decision. You were right, 165Hz knocked things out of the park relative to the competition.
Glad to see a happy buyer after a year. I've seen so many bad reviews with lots of potential issues with this model. Decided to buy it anyway as I found one for a pretty good deal. Will be here next week, can't wait to try it out!
@RL Black its a decent choice. Value for money. Dell's tech support has been excellent for me too. Had no issues at all. Its here to stay as well longevity of the amd processors as they run cooler. The vents make it better. I am sure u will like it. Enjoy
@@carinaduro143 I love it! No issues. Not a huge fan of the way you set the fan curve with Alienware fx, and also had to stumble through getting fx in the first place which controls the keyboard light. (Thought it was odd that it didn't come with it). Also the power brick is bigger than any I've ever seen, even bigger than the brick I had for my zypherus Rog 17 3080 R9 which is crazy. that's just kinda to be expected with gaming laptops. But aside from those minor things it's been great! I've enjoyed it. I really like the form factor, the thin bezels around the screen, the brightness is great, battery pretty good, performance is excellent, cooling is awesome. No issues. I do a lot of travel work so sadly I'm replacing it with something smaller. I'm actually pretty excited, I have an Asus Z13 on the way. A bit of a downgrade but will work much better for my needs. Definitely sad to be selling the G15. Wish I could keep both! Anyway yeah it's an awesome laptop. Get it, you won't be disappointed. Definitely Alienware inspired, but I like the sharp angles much more than the roundness of the Alienware laptops. The rear vents remind me of afterburners on a future jet fighter.

Such a helpful review. Its the one I was wanting to go for due to my budget and it looks like it going to be the perfect starter gaming laptop thank you for taking the time to review
I just bought one in the USA. They were having a sale on the i7 rtx 3060 model, and ontop with my student discount I got one out the door for $1099 before tax. It didnt have the nicer screen or the RGB keyboard, but since Ill be using this docked as my desktop with my freesync monitor, I cant wait. This was the only laptop in its class with a Thunderbolt 3 port, and was the deciding factor! The 2nd choice I had was the Acer nitro 5, which was 1050 for me, and had a nice screen and keyboard but no thunderbolt 😢
So did you get the 120hz? It’s actually not a bad screen, I have spent a fair amount of time gaming on it. It’s not the brightness and you can see the PWM when you lower the brightest but to be fair I mostly leave it at max (280nits) the image quality and panel response seems pretty good for actual gaming when you are away from your main screen 👍
I have this exact same laptop (except mine is windows 11) but in specter green (its a different color than the one in the video). I suggest this laptop ANYONE looking for a amazing laptop for an amazing value! I also think specter green is the best color and waited 2 extra weeks for it and it was worth the wait!

I really hope Dell will make a refresh of this laptop with all AMD internals (5800H + 6600M). Imagine the price cuts that will happen near the end life of this laptop when they r clearing stock. If they put a 6600M GPU inside this laptop, it could easily cut down the price by another AUD$200. Plus the end of year discounts which may go up to 35% off, this laptop with the 5800H and 6600M could be priced at around AUD$1,400 which will sell like hotcakes.
It is a budget alienware R5 lol "BUT" with a couple of major omissions, Firstly its an all plastic chassis and secondly the panels that are available for the G5 are nowhere near the spec of the R5. the R5 can be selected with a QHD 240HZ with advanced optimus and G-sync which is major when it comes to gaming, also the HDMI and USB-C on the R5 are display ports directly connected to the GPU. So be aware of these when choosing to pay a couple of hundred pounds less for the G5 over the Alienware R5
Nice review! Does seem to run a bit hot. The open m.2 slot, does it have the screw and screw standoff installed? I was told that the Ryzen Alienware doesn't and was told the standoff uses a non standard thread so cannot use one from Amazon . Not sure if that is true.
Hi Stephen, yeah it does run a bit hit unless you enable gaming mode but that’s pretty loud! Like the m15r5 this is also missing the ssd mounting post, I did a video about it at the weekend and we managed to find an adapter that works on amazon: th-cam.com/video/DbkWIOLL-io/w-d-xo.html. It’s a real shame dell are being so mean about a part that’s worth pennies
Thank you for the review. Been considering buying this model, or the Asus rog g15. This Dell G15 model comes with a 165hz panel as default in my country, luckily. The rog may be a more powerful machine, but I really prefer dell's design.

I just purchased this laptop in Australia with gaming headset, mouse and backpack.. can't wait until it arrives.. I bought it to replace my Asus TUF FX505DV with 90w 2060RTX (bought 9 months ago) as I didn't do my research and found that the 3750h ryzen 7 bottlenecks the system so much that warzone struggles to keep over 50fps on very low settings... So I'm selling it and cutting my losses as I can see from this video that I'm going to get virtually double the performance even on high settings - do probably triple or more performance on the low settings I'm currently using to make warzone atleast playable.. great review on the best value gaming laptop out
@@xfamousgames6383 Absolutely love it.. I have updated the bios and also the vbios which now enables the mux switch, resizable bar and the vbios upgrades the 3060 rtx Wattage to 130w.. with all that it beats a 90w 3070 rtx in most cases and I'm getting over 100fps on warzone with high settings and ray tracing turned on Even with DLSS disabled... It's an incredible laptop for the money with incredible performance .. I cannot fault it at all.. It is basically an Alienware R5 without the fancy lights which I also prefer as at 40 years of age I want something with great gaming performance but that doesn't look out of place in a boardroom meeting at work. I also have had no issue with thermals with mine, I use G mode when gaming and it's fans aren't that loud to be honest, especially when compared to the Asus tuf that sounded like a jet engine on full blast.. 11/10... If you are looking for a laptop with a great decent screen then you may want to consider something else or see if you can get it optioned with the 165hz screen which dell offers on the G15 in the USA and Canada I think.. but in my opinion the screen is fine and I wouldn't want to pay another$365+ dollars for a better one - I'd rather invest in an external monitor personally

I popped the performance mode on during warzone and it dropped the cpu temps to mid 80s. I prefer a quiet system though so would put up with the heat. I am also going to see if I can tweak the cpu with ryzen master or similar tools and report back
no, you need to enable performance mode by pressing fn+F9 (unless you have inverted your function keys to media keys in which case just F9) you will know when it is enabled as the fans spin up straight away
After 3 years of using it, I would rate it a solid 8/10. The battery backup isn’t great, and sometimes when I play games like RDR2(on 8GB RAM😅)the temperature rises. But overall, it works very well for me!
I noticed that when you switched to Performance mode, the CPU temp still hovered at 95-99C even until the end of your play through. Was kind or expecting it to drop down to the 80s like youve mentioned. 95-99C for CPU is very hot. EDIT: btw, glad I discovered your channel. Subbed already
Thanks Joseph, let me double check as I am sure the temps came down after a while. I am going to test more games on the g15 and look at tweaking it so I will hopefully have a more in depth video soon 👍

I`ve ordered G15 5511 - gen 11 i7 11800H; RTX 3060 (Q&A states 115w); 16GB RAM; 512GB NVME. Unfortunately did not pay the extra for the screen upgrade, but I`m sure it can't be that bad (fingers crossed). The total I paid was £850 by getting cash back from my bank and using a discount code. My question is why everyone is so excited for Razen, what is the difference? (I expect my laptop to be delivered in a week or two, still nervous if I made the right call.)
i dont get the issue on fans. as long as its not that noisy when doing nongaming stuff; as long as it helps the performance and throttling and longevity of the chips its fine youll be using a thousand dollar headphone when youre gaming anyway
Hello. I was going around for the reviews of this particular laptop and JUST watched yours. I had second thoughts about should I buy this or put a little extra cash and buy a different laptop but, you have saved me from these thoughts. It is a wonderful laptop for ''budget gamers'' like me and I just gotta say, your review really was something else, brother. Thank you so much. 1) I just didn't like the sound of the mic of the webcam but I think it's alright since *ALMOST* every laptop cam mic is pretty much the same. 2) And yes, the 120-hertz screen but, my CURRENT laptop has 50 hertz of screen AND IT WOULD BE AN AWESOME UPGRADE FOR ME! :) Overall, awesome presentation and honest reviews with deep but crystal clear information about the laptop. It's just awesome. Keep it up! HOPEFULLY I CAN ALSO BUY THIS AMAZING PC! :)

Thanks for the review. Looks like a good price performance ratio though less enthused about the CPU temparatures. Will be ordering one. Might play around with Ryzen controller. I had some questions about the ports. Are the 2 USB-A ports on the side 2.0 or 3.1 gen 1? Dell's documentation on the product page in the US says 2.0 but their spec sheet says 3.1 gen 1. About the Type-C, can you confirm if it supports Displayport? Finally, do you know if the HDMI and (if it works) Displayport are connected to the Nvidia GPU or the integrated graphics?
If you enable performance mode (f9 key) the fans spin up and the temps drop at the expense of noise, I prefer a quiet laptop but if you have a headset on then this is a great way to get the temps down. I didn’t notice any drops in performance after long play sessions, and my wife says it’s quieter than my old Asus Zephyrus when I’m playing. The CPU runs hot while gaming, 95c is common. At first I was concerned but after checking with AMD they confirmed that 5000 series mobile chips are designed to run indefinitely at 95c and that’s well within their thermal envelope.
What games are you playing on the laptop?
What temperature does your GPU typically run at? Because mine is constantly at 86 degrees which is it's Maximum before it thermal throttles and I don't know why, because in this video it isn't running that hot
@@Apathy474 i have the same temperatures and use msi afterburner

Cheers and great review!
I bought the 5520 version (i7 12700h 3060) and it is really awesome, great machine!!
Yeah, did you see my g15 special edition with 12700h and 3060, I loved it
@@MashITTech yep bro! Could u please make a video comparing i7 12700h 3060 vs i7 11800h 3070? I would like to see that battle
Oh wow, I really like that idea! Let me see if I can get two laptops to fit
@@MashITTech i would love it, have been searching for this but cant find somethig about this...
Can it run VR?
Looks retro. Like it's SNES inspired. I like it.
It sure is 😃 a couple of people have said that
Hi nice review 👏👏
Could you please tell us about the model that we could rise up space of hard up to 1tb
Nice job, beautifull review.
Thanks so much
Hey man, i'm between this laptop and the new omen 15 with the 3060 and a i7, witch one would you choose?
Also thanks for the reviews, helps a lot
I haven’t tried this years omen yet (still not out in the U.K.) but I had last years ryzen model. If you can get the g15 with the 165hz option then it is comparable with the omen, if it’s 120hz then omen is better. G15 feels more solid, omen has a better keyboard layout. I think you will be happy with either to be honest
Love the dual color scheme
Have you heard about the Mux Switch? I saw that probably Dell is going to update the firmware to unlock it on this machine, do you know something about it?
Yes, that bios has already been released for this g15 and also the m15r5! It was a nice surprise 😀
@@MashITTech That's a great news!! We would love to see some benchmarks with the 3060 without the integrated GPU!!
The color is crazy bc when I was picking up my m17 r3 I thought all the black on the lunar light should be dark side of the moon which this reminds of
hello, first of all many thanks for this video it's very informational. can tell please if it can be use for video editing??
thanks again
Yes, this is a perfect laptop for video editing, it has ample cpu and gpu power so unless you are trying to edit 8k or something it will be great
@@MashITTech Thanks you ✌✌✌
What do you think of the temperature of the laptop after the bios update? Did it actually get better or should I look for another model?
What is the battery backup of your dell g15 ryzen Edition gaming laptop
And how much time it takes for full charging ?
You mean battery life? I get about 10hrs of wifi surfing at 50% brightness
@@MashITTech I only get 3 hours on this laptop non gaming whats going ?? I am using "better battery" as power option still no luck
FedEx is bringing mine today, I bought it during a sale so even with the 165hz 300nit panel I only paid $1229USD. I am excited to get it today, ordered the speckle green.
Wow great price and the 165hz panel is brilliant 👍 let us know how you get on with it 😃
@@MashITTech spent most of the night installing/benchmarking games. I can’t believe the jump in performance from my 2-year old Asus Zephyrus. Metro:Exodus running Ultra Ray Tracing @ 100+FPS! Cold War averaging 110FPS high settings (no RT). Installing Cyberpunk 2077 now. This 165hz monitor is beautiful, colors pop and it’s extremely bright (rated 300nits but seems almost as bright as my HDR400 main panel). I can’t believe the performance I got for $1229. My only complaint is the 5800H often sees 95c during gaming. It doesn’t seem to be throttling and maintains 4000mhz or better, but I may experiment with undervolting in the future.
@@LeMMingSlayeR any updates? if you game for a long time do you have any problems? what are your overall thoughts on the laptop>? anything you don't like?
@@nasmanxtra I played over the weekend and honestly there’s not much to complain about with this laptop. So far every game I’ve played had run at over 100FPS @ high settings 1080p, the screen is beautiful and the keyboard is good for a laptop. My only gripe at the end of the day is the speakers, they do get fairly loud but are flat and have virtually no bass. It a huge deal for me as I normally play with my Bose wireless headphones. Overall I’m very happy with this laptop.
thanks for the reply sounds like a great laptop. What do you think about the overall build quality ?
would you recommend this over ROG Zephyrus G14, 5900HS + 60w rtx3060 for casual warzone playing? which one is better in the long run (i mean durability)? from your test i've seen zephyrus has similiar gamin performance despite lower rtx wattage and seems to have better cooling. i don't care about mobily and battery life.
Cool review, does the default panel an IPS panel, or a TN, cause I'm thinking it's TN, but the footage looks IPS quality on my screen.
It is IPS just not the best IPS panel, if you have the option get the 165hz version. Unfortunately in the U.K. the option isn’t available
IMO you would be better off with the Intel 10780H spec as it comes with the better panel and is a few quid less www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/laptops/new-dell-g15-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-15-5510-laptop/cn55514?view=configurations

I die buy the 10870H,120HZ( default panel had no option to upgrade),3060rtx,16gb,512ssd for a price of 965 euro.
I really wanted the Ryzen model but the price is much higher with the same panel for 1299 euro
i dig the retro color/texture
why am i only getting 50 mins on my m15 r3 with the balanced profile & best battery life selected.
I’m in a similar boat. I have the 165Hz panel, but even dialed back to 60Hz and at ~33% brightness, I’m not even getting 3 hours battery life. No idea how he’s hitting 10+.
I'm a Mac user but I really like this laptop's design
Planning to buy this laptop for my degree in architecture. However, the option to upgrade the screen to a 165Hz, 100% sRGB screen is not available in my country. Is colour accuracy important for architectural works? Or is it just important for colour-based works like graphic designing, photography and vide editing? Hope to hear from you soon, as I only have around a few weeks left before entering the university 🙏🏻
Yes for architecture colour accuracy isn’t important. For CAD cpu and gpu is more important. Good luck with your studies, I was training to be a surveyor before switching to IT 😁
