    I am about to hit 13,000 miles on my 2019 Rebel (have owned for 6 months) as I drive a lot on the weekends. This truck is awesome, and the gas mileage doesn't upset me. I saw those numbers and was extremely skeptical they would be achieved in a truck that has a 1" lift, 33" off-road tires, and a 3.92 rear axle ratio. I have enjoyed being in this truck for every mile, and I left a 14 Chevy High Country.

    Purchased my Rebel approximately 2 months prior to your purchase and I have 1,500 more miles.
    I agree with everything your stated in this video except the rattle in the front suspension, have not had this issue.
    Biggest complaint is the gas mileage, my average is 16.8 on the freeway with the cruise control set at 75 and about 500 pounds in the bed of the truck.
    This truck is a dream to drive, my 8 hour trip was extremely enjoyable, a luxury car ride.
    I did option in the panoramic sunroof and air ride suspension. The sunroof is a blast on a warm summer day.

    I drove my Hemi truck (1500 4X4 Mega Cab) for six years and 170K miles. The only thing that went wrong with it was a leak on the rear differential seal! That's it! And I drove it pretty hard. Pulled trailers to Montana to California from time to time and also drove off road and camping. Was a great truck, loved it. Everyone said, "buy Ford F150" so I did thinking my truck needed to be replaced. After the fist year of the F150 I had nothing but issues, horrible AC and the interior was cheap. Wish I would have kept my 1500 Mega Hemi!

      Went in order Chevy > Ford > Ram, and I haven't looked back. Chevy interiors just crumble on you, had a few all the same deal, Ford has better interiors but the suspension and cooling issues after 100k were rediculous, it was the perfect truck until it wasn't. Ram... never a problem. So that's what I stuck with.

    The towing weight battle is ongoing among the manufacturers but the reality is that more than 8 thousand pounds of trailer, especially a high wind profile one, is going to make you hate every mile you drive in any of them. Gooseneck or fifth wheel makes it more tolerable but 1/2 tons are still not a good choice if heavier towing is a regular activity for the truck.

    No front camera is what I complain about as well. Since you intend on modifying things on this truck, there you go. Definitely item #1 to enhance it with. I like the idea of putting on the bigger tires. lol Louder and or a better exhaust soundtrack would do it justice as well. Don't forget about your extra fuel cell since it's MPG is no good anyhow. Can increase range. And I am sure there are plenty of other great ideas out there. Winches, roll bars, light bars..etc.

  • @bullrambler
    @bullrambler 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've always loved the idea of a suspension, tire, combo build on a truck. And if one looks at the Ram HD DualSport with SC suspension system that can be found elsewhere on youtube. Then one can see that this is the right approach for getting suspension/wheel/tire system - done right. Now that's with a 2500 series truck.
    The problem with the kits made for most 1500 series trucks is that they lack the robust design and features that can accomodate 40 inch tires. Now if the suspension company listed above were approached to assist in the design for a 1500 series truck - then one may expect that everything will hold-up - over a longer period of time. Ultimately, if longevity is not considered as being as crucial as it ought to be. Because a mediocre lifted suspension system with a 40" wheel/tire combination - can be too extreme and bring ruin to the 1500 series truck.
    If I have it correct, the Ram Rebel is a 1500 series truck that comes stock with 33" tires and it should have been designed to come with 35" tires. I suspect that on a 1500 series truck that 37" wheel/tire / lift / suspension system may be the "end-of-the-line" in a capacity that will work - without too many issues. My initial thoughts are that 40" wheel/tires/suspension set-up will be a tad too much.
    But it'll be interesting to see how the upgrades plays out. As I'd love to be proven wrong.

    Nice review. I work at a Chrysler Ram dealership and get to see and drive lots of vehicles. I had an 18 eco diesel. Good truck. Great fuel mileage. We had a white Rebel on out lot since early April. They dropped the price with dealer discounts and rebates. Still sat. It was about to get dealer traded. I noticed the discounts plus my FCA employe discount. I stepped up bought it. Its so far great. Fuel mileage well so far is poor but I have 100 miles on it. I will miss the mileage of the ECO diesel. I can’t wait to take to my local forest roads. The eco was a 4x4 and the front spoiler scrapped on every dip in the road. This one won’t. Keep up the great reviews.

    General suggestion for all your "real world" mileage tests: State what gas grade is needed for each truck. Use the prevailing cost per gallon for each required grade to provide a true fuel cost for the loop, not just MPG. A truck that does a little better with MPG, but requires premium fuel, may not be the best performer from an operating cost viewpoint. After all, true fuel cost is what matters, right? Thank you!

    8k miles in 3 months on mine and it’s been great. Sure the gas consumption is what it is, it’s holding up well and it doesn’t have an easy life. The electric motor just makes it smooth. Towing a heavy trailer out of a muddy field is so much better then my old Toyota.

    They used to do something with a similar concept to that on the old Farmalls in the 1940's 50's. For example the Farmall M-TA "torque amplified" My neighbor has an MTA and M, I can tell you the MTA is defiantly better by far.

  • @simontallboy209
    @simontallboy209 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Has the Etorque helped your mileage around town? My understanding is it doesn't help the hwy mileage. My 15 Ram with 10ply tires does better than 17mpg on the hwy.

    Can't wait to see it lifted on 40s when you get it lifted, you should look in to getting easily removable mud flaps. You don't want to throw rocks at people. Also having them be removable, you can go off road and not rip them off on rocks.

  • @liquidflame9752
    @liquidflame9752 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hope you guys look into lift kits other than the mopar 2 inch. I have been looking for some time for my 19' rebel 12 and can't find anything other than Rough country and I am not a fan of their products.. If you do I will be watching , I too went the non air rides soooo...

  • @douglas685
    @douglas685 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like the perfect all-rounder. It's only flaw is fuel economy, but really most lifted/off-roady trucks suck at that, just hard moving all that weight and those big tires down a road through wind

    Well I’ve had my Rebel since July of 2018 and I have had no problems at all. I did have the recalls taken care of but no issues with either. I do have to say I have the 5.7 and I have never gotten anywhere near 17 mpg I average about 12 to 14 at best ( and no I’m not heavy on the throttle). I have a magnaflow car back system and a k&n filter that’s it. I also have noticed no difference in highway mileage by using the aero mode or not. The only complaint sort of is the tires suck in sand. I had my truck on the beach and even at 20lbs. Of air it still plowed I also felt if I stopped on soft sand I would sink ( get stuck). As far as fit and everyday driving this is the best most comfortable truck I have ever owned. I was a tried and true Chevy man for years but this model ram is perfect in almost every way. I have no regrets and would buy again in a heart beat.

      @sfrancescon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonathan Spier Well I can only speak about my truck and all I can say is my truck is basically perfect I have had no issues at all. The only complaint is from day one I get an occasional error for the auto start which has had no effect on the way the truck runs but it is annoying and no the dealer has no clue what causes it ( i do not use the auto start feature so it does not affect me )
      All in all it has been the best decision I have made as far as buying a vehicle goes. Hope this helps

    Andre, I have a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4, Its got the 5.7 hemi. No E-Torque obviously. So some cool power adders. I did a full length exhaust. Headers wo cats on back. Now I know you guys won't do that. My suggestion is put the Flowmaster Outlaw catback system on it. Best sound with that muffler and exhaust pipes. I love mine. If you do that the Hemi growls with a purpose. Under the hood the Mopar Cold Air intake is OK. The S@B cai, or the K@N series seems to really open up some air. Also look to replace the Throttle Body. Now I know you can only do so much. But check with Mopar and see what doesn't void the warranty. Oh and I do believe Mopar will allow a re-tune on the ECU that won't void the warranty. Combine all of these and you guys will be very happy with the old girl.

    • @dylanmacaya9166
      @dylanmacaya9166 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Running 40's will likely void the warranty though!

    Curious if the EPA testing uses lower octane and E10 like we use in Colorado. Not making an excuse for the mileage at all but that is an easy 10% swing in fuel economy.

    Thank You! ... I have a 2019 RAM Bighorn / North with non-etorque 5.7L with 3.21 gears ... good/bad ... 1) MPG? although I can average 19.5+ per tank ... the around town mileage is abysmal and can easily bring the average into the 15's if you are not careful ... 2) Creaks and groans inside the cab have developed only after 1500 miles ... hmmm ... new design??? 3) ANC? mine still has lots of wind noise around the door frames ... hmmm... new design??? 4) MDS not as inobtrusive as folks suggest ... 5) Interior is still one of the best ... though the real question is ... will it survive the first year test ... if you ask me now I would say "No" ... maybe the F-150EB with it's plain interior is still the best?

    Would really like to see what y'all do with this truck to tweak it. Immediately wondering if cold air and cat-back will help mpg before you put the 40's on it (that would take the mpg back down). Question for you mountain dwellers: did you put snow tires on this truck during the worst of your winter, or did you stay with those aggressive tires we see in this video?
