honestly I think RPI's are getting too complex, there should be a "B" option starting at 35 dollars with paired down IO for edge computing 60} dollars is getting up there in price and thin clients are actually way better in most cases
I can see the 1GB hit the $35 price tag. If less I/O is needed, maybe a new Pi Zero can also do the same for even cheaper. But we’ll see what the Pi foundation does in the future.

USB Type C DisplayPort Out? Has the boot process been simplified to not require the GPU? Is this supported by Coreboot? (What payload?) Are the WiFi, Bluetooth, GPU drivers released under the GPL, or at least the binaries, redistributable?
Turns out it wasn't a supply chain after all. They simply stopped production of Pi4 and started producing the Pi5 without announcing that is what they were doing.
The Raspberry Pi uses a Broadcom system-on-a-chip (SoC) that contains several components, including a CPU, GPU, memory, and other peripherals. As a result, the production of Raspberry Pi has been impacted by the semiconductor shortage, leading to delays and shortages.Mar 1, 2023 In order to have been ready for a mass release of the Pi 5 by the end of October they would have had to Start production as far back as March.
if they're urging the use of an active heatsink for the pi 5, I can't wait to see what a sufficient heatsink looks like. mayb'e we'll get up to 60mm cooler?
Now why couldn't raspberry announce the introduction of Pi5 instead of making us wonder and wait for the production of pi4 to resume. Or did I miss an announcement?
@@anthonylester6734 March 2023 the raspberry Pi4 was still out of stock. The reason given for this was a supply disruption of semi conductors. Even today they still have no Pi 4 compute modules available. I am aware of the announcement of the Pi5 two days ago. They could have simply said this in March. Right now the only way to get the compute module 4 is to buy from scalpers on Ebay for nearly double what the MSRP was suppose to be.
Yawn ... So nothing really new except speed. Still only 2 usb 3. 😅No Emmc or m.2 storage, either of which is sorely needed. Since the shortage, I've used many other single board computers that put the Pis to shame, while being in the same basic price range. The only thing the Pis bring to the table is the community.
I wish RP was not so Lunux-centric. I have a lot of touch screen applications that would benefit from Windows and Android. Windows IoT Core is still shipping in some of my companies products.
When someone says : All the ins and outs which is the I/O controller chip bro I am not listening to what that person is say!!! Don’t you mean older brother since 5 is newer?
That's exactly I wanna say 😅
It grew to 5

it does indeed seem to be contrary to the original Pi philosophy

When are these going to be available at Micro Center ? Was showing Oct 23 and now Nov3.

- yes, and like always it is unavailable or against inflated prices from hoarders who buy it only to resell at a profit.
Should still be available to preorder on other sites. I preordered one.
Thing is that microcenter probably still won't be able to stock it.
I need a firewire/thunderbolt 3 port on a Raspberry PI. What would be the best way of doing this on this PI? Thanks.
l wonder if there will be a time when micro center have shipping available for everything
Would be great if it had a 2,5 GBe, faster then most Synology today 😁
You can buy a 2.5 gigabit ethernet USB3.0 adapter

Any thoughts about the supply chain? Do you think we will have the same availability issues?

It would be really cool if you allowed us to pre-order it.
Is there any in stock in the Massachusetts store?
🎉 looking forward to seeing what we can make
Pushed out to Nov 3?

Will the active cooler with heat sink work in the case or do you either have to choose the official heat sink or the official case?
I’m pretty sure the new case is designed for the heat sink.
the case comes with a built in solution
To my understanding, the case fan can be removed to fit the active cooler.
Is MC going to be doing anything to prevent hoarding? Or stampedes?

there is still no sata! no m.2 👎 👎 👎
You can connect a pcie m.2 ssd in the pcie slot once a hat is released. That is faster than sata.
@caleb7475 yea great, more money + probably an external power suply
One would have thought that the new Pi would have an RTC already on board. They force everyone to buy everything separately.
but.. it does, you have to buy battery

$80 for a Pi5 8GB.

Expected a much lower price or much higher performance with a new custom SoC. 16nm process? Come on.
Dude, the thing costs 50 bucks. 16nm is damn justifiable.
The board is over twice as fast as it's predecessor, how much more performance do you want for $60?
