The CR125 is a pretty bulletproof engine and is actually low maintenance when compared to some other kart classes. For example, 30 odd years ago I used to race a 100cc non gearbox kart in the UK in a class called '100 National' My engine was by Rotax and I used to have to have it rebuilt with a new piston and rings, main bearing and oil seals and hone the bore every 4 hours of racing. That's what I call 'high maintenance'. lol
Me and my friends run at Calspeed every Sunday. We all run under Musgrave tent (factory kart). Come out and run some laps with us and follow behind us to find the race lines and how to approach each corner.
On your practice days, list out your setup.. bars in/out, weight, gearing, tire softness, pressures, etc... That way we can give you some ideas on what to maybe change. Either way best bit of advice is get to where you are able to lay down 20-30 laps within 2-3 tenths and then go tweaking the kart a bit here and there. You need 1000 laps in the kart before you go whole sale changes.. BUT with that said having a good baseline setup is important.. And when you are ready for a 250 Superkart give me a yell. 😉
When you ready go for track just le me know live LA I'm going karting Sundays and weekdays have same kart cr125 have any questions let me know if you have truck don't remove tires you can put on your truck easy my experience get larg seat and put padding side and bottom cuz have lot of pressure comes on rips when hard turns and depends on track how bumpy at corners
Never recommend a new kart racer to run a shifter as his first kart… 90% of new Karters have never raced before and aren’t mechanically inclined (and quit if they bought one within a year)… after 7 years of racing karts- I got my son one and he just slipped right into it…. Just food for thought…

CR125 lightweight yet powerful, what i use in our kart is kawasaki ninja 150cc 2stroke, heavier than yours, but 2stroke shifter rocks!
Why am I the only here? Where’s the family? 😜 Have fun Scott… don’t forget those ceramic bearings! 🤪
