  • Major reconstruction of the fiddle yard & what to do with Lord Al’s lavvy.
    necessary work on the fiddle yard as the traverser wasn’t lining up any longer. With a couple of years of expansion and contraction, something had to be done. Not forgetting Lord Al’s lav. He was giving them out at GETS, many youtubers received one with the challenge of siting and paintjng them. I went a stage further. So for all updates, take a look at the video. Enjoy!

    Love what you’ve done with Lord Al’s lavvy. Think you might have set a challenge 😊

      Thank you, great fun to do. It was Allan's challenge, each youtuber he met was given one and we could interpret it however we wanted.

    Hi John, Excellent use of Lord Al’s Lavvy, you done a lovely job with that!
    The re-construction of the fiddle yard seems to have gone well with the APT’s running through there nicely although I worry for passenger safety as it traverses that gap😬
    Oh and I like the carriage storage thingy in the background, very nice…😉
    Cheers John, John

      Thanks John, did you get a lav? Could be a fantasy god overseasing the situation, lol.
      Im just releaved the fiddle yard works, have had derailments, one big short which took a day to find, no power issues and not forgetting power off during smart meter install. Glad its over lol. The carriage storage is one of those new fangled devices that keeps the passengers at the correct abient temperature, very sophisticated, lol

      lol! As long as they are warm enough John. No Allan didn’t give me one as I do N Gauge and I think he was trying to make sure he gave all the 00 gauge modellers one

    Hi John, you've probably guessed that I'm having a catch up on videos. That 9 car apt is absolutely awesome. I'm looking at getting curved points for the next part of my build, but you hear so many horror stories about them, so I'll have to stay tuned and see how they work out. They look fine in the video. Take care John and speak soon. Lee

      I do understand what you mean. Ive experiented with all metal fishplate on insulfrog, so far so good. No shorts with wheel catching opposite rails at frog.
      I honestly believe the secret is keeping the point clear of debris and clean. Always vacuum after track rubber and use a tooth brush with isopropyl alcohol. Ive always got them working and easy to maintain. Big clean will be required if you ballast them. Hoping that helps.

    • @leewhall2504
      @leewhall2504 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that doe's help, and it makes me feel a bit better about getting some because I've looked at ways of not having them, but there is just no other way. So, yes, it helps and thank you. Lee

    Hi again John! Man, all of that pointwork has made me come over in a cold sweat! It would take me a month of Christmases to test all of that! Lol! Loved what you did with Lord Al's Lav and the stormtrooper! Cheers, Ian.

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are funny Ian, no testing slap it all down, done, dusted (literally) and operational in 3 days. Would have bee quicker if I didnt have the smart meter fitted. One point was dodgy, caused constant derailments, few tweaks pushes and twists with a screwdriver, perfect! Bob is now your best friend, lol. Seriously thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Love the lavvy. We went to smart meters at my house over 10 years ago. They didn't really change anything for me. Nothing wrong with pulling out old track lines and relocating them. The prototypes do it all the time. Bill from California

      @piccadillymodelrailways  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely, new track is become very expensive. A turn curved point wax £17.50, now £23+. Ive used second hand, minor repairs work perfectly.

    Excellent John. Glad you've got it sorted to how you want it. I think storage yards are harder to plan than the main layout, you think you've got it sorted until you get another train and it doesn't fit or run properly. Anyhow well done. Now dint get me started on smart meters, they came to fit mine, removed my old one, breaking it in the process, only to find the smart meter wouldn't fit. The engineer was there for hours repairing the old one to put it back lol. It's a right saga now as the supplier keeps saying I need to install a new meter but they've not got one to fit when the engineer comes 😂 the loo looks perfect on that station it wouldn't look right being new and in good order atb Andy

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Andy, the smart meter was a right faff, first guy turns up says he only doing electric meter not gas, 45 mins on phone. When I ask if he was going to start, then tells me electrics are dangerous. Never said a word to me. I had friend coming shortly. Hmmm I tell him to leave. National grid turn up. That’s NOT dangerous, but they changed a plastic casing. Next guy comes on Wed couldn’t have been any more different - brilliant lovely chap, had a laugh. No issues. I phoned to compliment how brilliant he was. Shame didn’t get him first.
      Yes lav needed to be run down to match the station, it would’ve been new. Armchair critic says it should be in scrap heap, lol. DELETE DELETE! Ha ha ha. Asta de lavista bb. Lol

    Great work on the fiddle yard and definately thumbs up for the storm trooper on the lav! Brilliant! I have the same issue with one of my locos tripping just one particular point about every 10th run - weird. Will keep at it but like you said perhaps thats the best I'm going to get.
    Regards
    Steve

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words. Just thinking about that point. Have you used an insulfrog or electrofrog? Ive just started using the metal fishplates on the insulfrogs, BUT some locos with slightly wider wheels can catch the opposite rail as they run over the frog, hence the short. It wouldn't happen every time as it depends on the exact positioning of the wheels on the track. Does it happen with an older loco, if so do you have any more recent releases that you could try? It might mean you need plastic fishplates on that point and attach dropper wires to the rails. Let me know Ill help if I can.

    Hi John,
    Great to speak with you the other day and yes having a fixed approch to the fiddle yard looks the way to go and as we know our trains all have a wobbly from time to time its part of the hobby. I wonder if West Hill Wagon Works will bring a new Lord Al's lav with the door open to the market as this was a super way of making it different so well done just one thing though the braces on the inside of the door are the wrong way round they should go from the bottom by the hinges to the top so stopping the door from dropping but no worrys thats just me being a pain. So very well done on this and so nice to see your trains running through your super scenics a joy to watch whether in OO or n gauge.
    Cheers Robert.

    Hi John.
    Love your layout.
    I have some horrible curves on my layout. Think some are -3😂
    Als lav, No. 2 wow could have got away with a wee.😂
    Wish I was more clued up with laying the track.
    Thanks for sharing John.
    Stay safe.

      Track laying comes with experience, you find out what does and does not work.
      I would not go any more explicit nor graphic regarding Als lav, that comes across as smut and I not want any part.

    Looking good. Hope you move the coaches from the rad before the heating kicks in! And the discarded Dalek looks very forlorn. Mess seems to go hand in hand with model railways. I get my shed nice and tidy then have to move stuff out from under the boards. Then you realise you're not as young as you once were and can't get over the rubbish as easily as you could have in the past!

      Lol, you cannot say the passengers get a boring ride on my layouts ha ha. The traverser is still present atm, but when Im ready Ill modify the structure ready for the lift. One step at a time. Just started on the Torr Vale area on the N gauge layout, tons to do there. We put ourselves into some right ole situations dont we, lol
