- TORR VALE MILL IS COMPLETE!
I was beginning to think I’d never get to this stage, but gratefully here we are. 4 months in the making, many, many hours on cutting card, wrapping with brick paper, 3d printing, varnishing/ painting, weathering and not forgetting much blending in of buildings and features to match the surrounding areas.
I still need to do the river pour, but I’ll save that for a dedicated video in a month or two.
Thank you to you all for sticking with the build, but it’s soon time to think what is next? I am taking a short break from layout building for week or so, chance to do some OO gauge, you never know.

This is absolutely gorgeous, John, and when you populate it with visitors and staff, it will be absolutely amazing. Print a figure of yourself and plant it with a good vantage of the mill; surveying all your creation!
Thank you, glad you like it. I may put people in at a later date. I will need to revisit the area to apply the resin so maybe then, along with some scenery ‘moulding’ to blend in the unit with the surroundings.
The angles created by the various sections makes for a spectacular view, forcing the viewer to search for where things are.
Yes I agree, when I was deciding whether to build the mill it was that there are so many angles, facets and tiny lil features for the eye. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
John. That's a great piece of modelling. You should be very proud. Pete
Thank you Pete so glad you enjoyed it.
Wow, amazing, congrats on the great build. Thanks for sharing it with us.
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
A truly fantastic piece of modelling John, congratulations and well worth the effort and wait. Chris
Thank you very kind of you to say.
Another superb job. Fabulous 👍
That's certainly been an epic build, I've really enjoyed following your journey with this, superb work...cheers James 🙂👍
Thanks James so glad you enjoyed it. I certainly have,
Really enjoyed watching this build, you have created something wonderful and to do this in N scale is incredible John.
Bless you thanks, Im finding the N gauge buildings are a nice size in the hand, and jobs are quick to do.
Wow John. I know those buildings and you have done an amazing job of recreating them! Very impressive, even for you! 😮
lol, thanks Mav. You did crack me up ‘even for you’. I do my best Mav, I will try harder. Got to chuckle…
@@piccadillymodelrailways Lol, sorry if it read wrong. Maybe I should have worded it that it is very impressive, even when compared to your own supremely high standards of modelling! Please don't try too much harder. The majority of us mere mortals can't rise to those standards as it is and can only look on your modelling with envy! lol
Hi John, a wonderful bit of modelling, looks a really great scratch build, especially in N gauge! Cheers Gary
Thanks Gary, yes it was an epic build, 4 months worth lol. I can relax for short time now before the next bit. Thank you for raling the time to comment.
Hi John! I thought I was caught up, and there you go posting another video! Lol! What a brilliant build it has been! Your attention to detail has been fantastic! It may not be an exact representation, but it's pretty close, and gives a really nice flavour of the place! It'll look great on your excellent layout, and will give you some brilliant passing shots when you're filming! Sharing the details of the build has been really generous of you, and has given me a bundle of ideas that I'm sure I'll use going forward! Thank you! I'm looking forward to the next build already! :) All the best, Ian.
Bless you Ian, you clearly been on a bit of a binge watch, lol. You'll need a lie down after all that. I certainly would.
Ive really enjoyed the build, I think its good to get youf teeth into something challenging. Being a real place makes it easier to know 'what goes there'. Takes the stress out of railing modelling.
Those little details really bring the models to life! Amazing. I wish I had your patience! Liked and Subbed! Cheers, Andy
Thanks Andy, I really believe the more features that can be included all adds the feast for the eye.
Really nice job in fact a proper job, very impressive modeling of the highest order. I would not know where to start with a project like that, well done.
Bless you, and thank you for such kind words.
Absolutely fabulous John it really looks fantastic. I do like the new houses you've done, they really look the part. To think that's in n gauge is remarkable. I can just imagine Harry Seacombe walking down there in period costume shouting 'boy, boy for sale' . Brilliant Sir go to the top of the class cheers Andy
Thank you, but ‘boys for sale’ we can’t do such a thing SAFEGUARDING Andy SAFEGUARDING lol
@@piccadillymodelrailwaysit just took me back to the 1968 Oliver twist film don't think safeguarding existed in those days John
Lol
😅Stupendous build John ! Attention to detail is second to none. Once it's "planted" next to the viaduct you'll have a fantastic visual addition to the layout. Time to have a rest John and recharge the batteries methinks. 😊 cheers Euan
Thanks Euan and yes definitely, although back to school tomorrow, lol Rest what's that? Lol I haven't even put the TV mill unit on the layout out. Can u believe it? Its that time of day now, take care my friend.
Any reason why you didn’t cover the walls of the buildings with paper and cut the openings first ?
Sorry about all the questions
.
That looks just amazing now John. Fantastic work. Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Filament or resin printer?
.
Great looking mill model John, well done. Cheers Peter.
Fantastic model. It looks amazing.
Absolutely fantastic well done
Hi John, well, i have really enjoyed watching the Mill come together, it’s going to look great on the layout and has been a fantastic project from start to finish.
I’m looking forward to the next build already even though you’re not at this stage, lol! Cheers John, John
Thanks John, so glad you like it. I’ll show the unit in place soon. It does require some ‘fitting’ to the surroundings but. very minor.
That is a lovely model to go on the layout John. These things do take time to do well and you must have spent hours working out the designs for the 3D printing, the test pieces before producing the final prints and the card carcasses. The attention to detail, and the desire to be as faithful as you can to the original really does show through. It is going to be a real focus and a match for the Dinting viaduct. Its also a nice juxtaposition between the townscene of Piccadilly and the more rural look around Dinting and the Mill. Stephen
Thank you Stephen, I have really enjoyed it, and yes, there has been much design work, making, adapting etc etc etc. Just so glad its done now. Still havent put it on the layout yet. Lol
Hi John,
Well I think you deserve a rest after this 2nd largest one to the station you have done, so all we want now is to see it in its place on the layout but very well done how you do all this and work as well is mind boggleing to me. We will have to see what you will do next to keep yourself busy!!!.
Cheers Robert.
Thanks Robert so glad you liked it. I took the rest of yesterday to stop so haven’t seen the unit in place myself, very soon. Thank you for your continued support.
Stunning piece e of modelling!
fantastic, well done
It's just so amazing how much detail you have managed to put in on such a small area. It definitely sets the standard for modelling any diorama. I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series and it is so inspirational. Thank you for the videos John.
Regards
Steve
Thank you Steve, I really appreciate that and so glad you enjoyed it.
Hi John - It was well worth the considerable effort you put in as it looks great.
So much detail and an excellent representation of the mill.
Cheers Kev
Thank you Kev, so glad you like it.
Brilliant work.👏
Beautiful
fantastic.
Great built. Love the detail. You need a break after doing this for 4 months. Now go have a pint. By the way is this a Grade Listed property? Bill & Janet from California
Hi Bill, thank you glad you liked it.
Yes grade 2, meaning the basic structure must remain but fixtures and fittings can be updated.
Some great building going on John you should be well chuffed with it 😎👌☕️
Thank you Fred, yes Im very happy with how its turned out. Its taken long enough, lol
John, having grown up around scenes like this, I am very happy with what I'm looking at! Very well done. Regards, Stephen.
Thanks Stephen, its always intended as a representation, but aim to include as much detail / features to make it recognisable.
Just like to congratulate you John on a superb build series. From start to finish ( is it ever?) it’s been a delight to watch and I’m sure those that look after the real Torr Vale would more than happy to display your representation for the public to see.
Hi thank you for your kind comments, so kind of you to say.
Out standing model making John. i would love to use big words but my spelling is not that good..lol.. But when you put your mind into it your so unbelievable how you do it and in 2mm .you just blow me me way just watching this build . Superb JOHN .
Ill put your name down for an MBE .. Top Man.
Regards Lord Al..🤣🤣🤣
Bless you Alan so very kind of you. Don't worry my spelling isn't that great either. I get the school kids to look it up, lol.
Being a Lord, Allan can you make me a Lord too, lol? If I visit you could tap my shoulders with a umbrella and Id become Lord Warner. Sweet....lol.
No worries John Any time .
John, your patience is extraordinary! What a beautiful representation of the old mill, and all in tiny 2mm scale! Fantastic!
Thank you Trevor so glad you enjoyed the build.
John the model is great as all your models are. Could you do something to improve the sound volume. I have a hearing problem and sometimes I just can tell you are saying something then when the trains run by I am blasted out of the room. Is the microphone on the camera or separate so that it can be better placed?
Hi, sorry to read that. I use my phone so Ill see what can be done, not sure I can stretch to a separate mic though.
Storage is a very important matter for large mills and factories. Without it, there would be nowhere for the products to wait for collection or delivery.
Agreed
That looks amazing ,well done ,your a genius. Love the channel thank u for sharing
Bles you Winston, so glad youve enjoyed the series. Ive had a lot of fun building it.
Brilliant work with the same attention to detail as with Manchester Piccadilly station!
It will be great to see it on the layout.
Thank you, strangely its been complete for nearly ten hours now and still haven't mustered the energy to take the unit upstairs, lol. Schools start back tomorrow. Time to rest.
Love to see it in place , it's well above what I can do, not that I've done any modding.
Hi, you caught me still awake, lol. If you check out the next video the News, new purchases plans video I show the mill in position there. Although the whole scene still needs work, and I’ll do that in a month or so, maybe even sch summer hols. We’ll see.
Any reason why you didn’t cover the walls of the buildings with paper and cut the openings first ?
Sorry about all the questions
.
Awesome job. What sort of glue do you use to stick the brick paper to your 3D prints?
Hi, I just use a 'pritt' stick lots of glue on there. I used to use wet PVA but the paper was getting wet and use to tear. No issues like than now. Hoping thats helpful,
Excellent thank you@@piccadillymodelrailways . I suspected PVA would have a problem so that's a great help. Love watching your videos. Love what you do. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see what's next.
Thank you, short break from layout building first though.
John, outstanding modelling. You could be working as a 3d modeller making a very good income but you wouldn’t get the summers off🤣
.
Well the mill now looks like a traditional mill, with everything from the tall chimney to the storage. What a gorgeous model!!
Thank you, so very kind of you to say.
Congratulations, you did a fantastic job! You have ever right to be proud of your effort.
Ok, saw you are using filament and 2mm grey board 👍
.
Well it looks great, your time payed off as you did it justice 😊
Are the buildings made from grey card or… ?
.
Did you 3d model the roofs … or?
STOP! I apreciate your comments, but please say all you want to say in ONE COMMENT NOT 14. Any more they will all be deleted!
John well done for me your best work
Phew! All done. Well done, it looks amazing 👏
Thank you and too right, phew indeed.
