  • SCALE A BUILDING TO THE RIGHT SIZE!
    Ive been working on the ‘ruins’ area and started the mockup buildings in the final area of the build. I agree with the comments received, it has been a monumental build, especially for such a small unit. However, the end is nigh. With the half term holiday, Im hoping to clear this unit this week, no promises. But it will be nice to move on to areas elsewhere.

    Great build. Being a railway modeller about 50 years ago, back when ,I was 17 to 25 years of age that compromises had to be made in building my layout. As you said it is a representation of the actual buildings. I'm fine with that. Now that I'm 70 years of age, my projects, house or garden get done when they get done. Bill from California.

      Absolutely Bill, modelling, gardening etc etc are all hobbies we do them for pleasure and relaxation, shouldn't ever be a chore.

      Id love to visit the area, but it is a fair ole treck for a short wander. The TV website and Google maps do really help.

    Good to see this developing further. The additional work in the corner made a real difference but once you showed the carcass of the new building it really brought the scene alive. Hope you get some rest in your week off , but it will be good to see what you get done. Stephen

    Hi John! That's an interesting approach to scaling buildings, and a one I'll have to remember! It sure beats counting layers of bricks! Cheers, Ian.

      Oh blimey Ian, counting bricks will surely send you 'boss' eyed. I can only just see the bricks on N gauge brick paper let alone count them. 1.5mm x 0.8mm each brick. Ill stick with tje doorways lol.

    Dear John, great vid! Love the way you did the ruins of the mill in the front of the scene. Very interesting how you did the ratios of the little structures on the right hand side of the mill. Humbly think a tiny bit of foreground compression can help to even the height of the little structures in comparison and relation to the mill. Very much looking forward to seeing the entire scene in place. Cheerio

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Vincent, I was thinking that, but as its only two storiesits hard to hide. Doors need to be right and would look odd if they weren't. The main mill buildings is taller, but I removed the top storey so not to dominate so much. This building is quite small and easy to see around so Im not worried.

It works opposite for me when Mrs Exehaven is on her school holidays, my feet don’t touch the ground and not much gets done on the layout, lol!

    Looks good to me John. Now the tunnel, here's my theory 😂 I think it's where the smuggler's of New Mills stored their whiskey and contraband after robbing the boats sailing up the Goyt and from the packhorse trains moving between Cheshire and Buxton. I can just see all the highwaymen sneaking into the tunnel at the edge of dark 😅 keep up the good work and we seem to have a warley replacement show in November at the NEC cheers Andy

    • @piccadillymodelrailways
      @piccadillymodelrailways  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lol, what a vivid imagination, but I have to dispell that theory about sailing up the Goyt. There's a weir, hmmm yes a um weir, a weir. Did I say there was a weir. Lol Why, would ANYONE even robbers, thieves and vagabonds sail up the Goyt, which isnt that deep to um crash, run a ground or break their boat crossing... A weir.
      Now if you said using a hot air ballooon or they flew in via albatross. yeah... totally believable. ha ha ha.
