    Hi, very good and informative videos, I have recently got a 2010 Street Triple R, although yours is the newer model I think I will be able use a lot of this information, I have recently started my own channel and plan to do a few maintenance and upgrade videos.......so good to see the standard has been set high for me to follow :-)

    Good tip on the freezer bag. I generally use no-residue tape, like painter's tape. Wrap around the nut, then a couple strips on top of the triple clamp to prevent scratches. If the tape is thin use several layers. I think the freezer bag would be easier.

    • @TheSussexBiker

      Yes I could have used tape but I had some freezer bags to hand so went with those. Thanks for watching :)

    I was going to add a comment but it's already been covered! Great minds think alike, and all that....
    But you do know that "c" spanner your holding is doing nothing at all! You have it the wrong way round and not bracing the nut against the torque wrench at all!

      Its not necessary to counter hold the head bearing adjustment nut while tightening the (2nd castelated ) locknut, the tab washer separating the two prevents movement of the adjustment nut.

    I do the small service on 2014 Street triple due a 12k service now think I better pay the mechanic As it's running a bit lumpy now . Not sure if that the throttle balance.

    Just hit 12k on my 2015 STR. Thanks for these and will definitely be referencing them while I do all my work.
    For the valve checking, did you already have new spacers on hand or did you buy after measuring? I’m trying to limit my downtime as much as possible.

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't check the valve clearances on this service as they were due on mileage and not time. If I had of done I would have gone for the 'down time' option as buying a kit of shims can get expensive!

    Hello! First of all - you rock! Thanks for all the vids, really informative. One quick question, what point on the bike have you used to jack up the front. I am assuming it's the oil sump, but just want to confirm.

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried on the sump only but this seemed to make the bike tip one way,so I used a piece of wood and went on the exhaust and the sump together. Thanks for watching.

      Gal Mordehai.I may well do a valve clearance one. Mine aren't due untill 12000 miles and my bike has only done 6000 ! but I may do it anyway. As for the fork oil again I'll have a think on that. Many thanks for watching

    Thank you for the video.
    If is the freeplay noticeable (same bike as yours) at 25 000 miles, can you still adjust it by tightening them up to 40 Nm and then to 15 Nm? Or at this kind of mileage there is needed a new head stock bearing?
    And by the way, that trick with freezer bag i have to try out!

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you just have play and no notchiness and they are standard/stock head bearings then yes (providing its the same bike and year might be different for older/newer ones). That information was taken from the official factory manual. I would suggest at 25000 miles you might want to inspect and re-regrease the bearings.

    Hi .. quick question. When removing the yoke lock nut, would you need to take the weight off the front end (block of something under the oil sump pan) or can the front wheel be on a paddock stand / on the ground?

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks for watching and commenting, if you are only removing the lock nut then no but presumably you are removing it to either tighten the head bearings or remove the yoke assembly. if you are adjusting head bearings you want the front wheel clear to check for smoothness and feel after adjustment or if removing forks etc then again you would need to suspend or jack up under the sump.

      Yes that would be really helpfull. I like the way you do the jobes it is really professional and well explained. I just bought a salvage triumph street triple 2014 and im restoring it. It is hit in the front end and it doesnt start. I already fixed the stator cover and changed all the gaskets. It has the key but the lock is brocken so i connected the wires and turned the ignition on however it doesnt want to start. So i guess its ecu that is locking the system or one of the shut of sencers is malfonctioned even thought they look good and cleen. Do you thing i should do a tune ecu?and see what it says... i cant see that in the speedometer because it is brocken.

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. sorry to hear this hasn't worked for you, it's possible that your bike may not have standard or oem bearings? You could try either adjusting again or doing it manually until the play has gone but the steering is not too tight. What was the reason for adjusting? did you have play/notchiness? you may need to strip and inspect the bearings.

    • @anytube1
      @anytube1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSussexBiker you are right i have non eom bearings. adjustment needed as there was little play in bad roads. now i re did it. it's good but if I remove hand from handlebar, it won't stick to straight line. is that now loose?

    • @TheSussexBiker
      @TheSussexBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anytube1 Not all bikes will steer straight when you let go of the bars. There could be a few factors for example, something out of alignment on the front end/ front tyre condition/pressure/ road camber/ even where the rider is sat on the seat. If you steering is smooth and not notchy or sticking in one postion and rides normally when you are riding with your hands on the bars then I wouldn't go chasing rabbit holes.

    Hi, street triple r 2010 from Italy bere. I have seen your video and besides some mistakes, they are good. But next time you wanna rise up the upper plate, use a rubber mallet. Do not be the guy that own a snapon torque wrench and not a rubber hammer.

      Cosimo Marotta thanks for watching. As you can see I used a plastic hammer and a bit of wood where I could. To be honest my home tool kit is a bit limited compared to my tools at work so I was using what I hand too hand but yes a rubber hammer might have been a better solution.
