Here's hoping that he and his daughter have thick enough skins and good enough security to survive to the beginning of the trial. Much as I'd like to see Trump slapped down for his deeply egregious behavior, I'd rather see him on trial and convicted.

I think the courts and everyone forgets that Trump is a criminal defendant and his speech is not appropriate, can't believe we need to have these conversations.

(criminal defendant or not!) We are having this conversation, you seem to find so ludicrous, because you are not having this conversation with the Judges. It is they who are allowing this behavior! @irenetolbert2713 Yes, and I imagine that these lawyers have said we want a retainer of $X million. That's really more common than lawyers doing the work first and then getting paid. Some lawyers will pay their bills out of the retainer and then ask for more, and some will request payment as they go, and if they are stiffed money, they will use the retainer to pay that.

It's sad that, even before the trial started, the defense lawyers have lost so much credibility that they need permission from the court to file any further motions. How are they not seeing that red flag the size of Texas? If I had to get permission to do anything in my profession I'd immediately recognize that as being put in bad faith, or probation. And then I'd immediately take steps to rectify whatever the heck I did to get myself there in the first place.
