What i appreciate the most is that you didnt try to hide the imperfections in the room as so many other interior influencers do! The paint on the window, the scuff on the wall, the scratches on the back door. Thats real life! We all have them, we need more of that in these types of content! ❤❤❤
Silicone sealant isn’t meant to painted and paint doesn’t last on it as you have found. If you add a wooden beading it will still need sealant especially behind the sink. I think the answer is to paint the panelling or beading first, all the way down to the worktop then neatly seal with a fine line of clear silicone sealant . You can also get sealant in a range of colours. The other option if you don’t need a waterproof seal is decorators caulk which can be painted.
Hey ash U need to run a piece of beading along the back of the worktop and paint. Will look so much neater The colour is a dream just goes to show how being bold and brave can make a fab space.
Ash, I agree with the gentleman that suggested two buffet lamps. I have a pair in my kitchen, and not only does it provide additional work light, but when the other lights are off, the kitchen glows. Perhaps one in each corner of the window ledge, in brass with a cream-colored shade in a linen vinyl that is easy to clean. If you're seriously considering painting the window and door, the mahogany is too dark, either leave them white or paint them the same color as the wall and ceiling. Final bit. The kitchen is a beautiful mix of deep reds and wood, I think the addition of more metal; brass and/or copper would be a great way to bring some reflectivity especially when you begin the hearth project around the cooktop.
As a professional designer /project manager , we do all our skirtings, doors , wardrobes and cornices , in a semi gloss finish for this exact reason Ash... washability. Dust is also a lot easier to brush away from a semi gloss finish. Matte finishes however , are better when it comes to touchups so we do most walls and ceilings in matte finishes for that reason.
Have a thick piece of Calacatta Viola marble cut for the window ledge, this will hide the thicker window frame on the bottom. Add saucers to every plant, I use brass for the ones I need waterproof. Matchstick blinds. Pull it all together with wallpaper.
Well done! I do like your style. And really, what you love in your home, is what counts. As for painting PVC, no. It will peel after time. A tip to do with your bread.....before it goes to mold, slice it into sandwich size slices, put into a freezer bag and freeze it. Great for toasting later.
I really love the way you styled the kitchen, including the window. I also like the lamp and personally think something smaller might get swallowed up by everything else. The contrast of the lighter trim color is a great choice for my eye. Gosh, there are so many choices of white on the color charts that it's almost overwhelming. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Try hairspray on the window frame. Spray and rub with a soft cloth. Test an inconspicuous area first. Roman blinds in the window and on the door would look very stylish. French Ticking with a natural background, with a deep red stripe. Laura Ashley's Mr Jones fabric in navy and burgundy would also work well and both would pair well with the lampshade and the blue and white plate on the wall.
Love your kitchen and how you style it! Perhaps a little cafe curtain for the window? Ive painted PVC before using Zinseer. Goes on a dream. You can tint the zinseer to whatever colour you want. Maybe an off white for the window or same colour as your walls opposite
Have you thought about an antique brass lamp with that shade? I think it would add such a timeless and elegant touch to the space! Also, I absolutely love the plants in the window-they make the room feel so warm and inviting. Plants always bring that special welcoming vibe!
Hi Ash - really like the styling. I'm a home painter from way back - not sure if you can paint PVC - you'd need to get expert advice. Personally I prefer the white windows/door in that space - I think it might close it in too much in a darker colour. Also - you were talking about building an oven hood/mantle. Check out AskCharlie - she did a kitchen reno youtube clip last week. She has an old Georgian farmhouse and just replaced the kitchen. She had it put in by a carpenter who built an over Aga mantle with side shelves, May not be your exact taste but still good to see. Agree a good Roman Blind will be perfect for the window. I quite like the non-symmetrical 2 ferns and a Trug (sound like a techno band 😂). Have a good week.
I actually completely agree with you, Definitely sticking to white! Amazing, so many people have been telling me about her Channel recently, thank you so much! I like the band name tbf 😂
Hi Ash.....love the colour of your kitchen. Alot of people have had great success painting UPVC windows & doors with a paint called Frenchic......look them up there's some amazing results on their website. Also I have the exact egg stand & I love it 👍🏻. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the kitchen. Love you guys & Dougal xxx
Joanna Lumley said this when she did her programme about seeking out the northern lights. She was referring to external videos being white. I painted mine black on the inside and they make the greenery outside stand out so much.
So warm and inviting I love your decor I would hire you as my interior designer. Best way to paint that caulking at the counter would be with a very delicate artists brush. Maybe try a clear water proof caulk at the counter in the future. I was going to say curtains at your window would help bring in some pattern can't wait to see what you purchase. I think your door and window in a dark wood tone would be very lovely.
Vaughan Designs make the most gorgeous, luxury lighting with the option to customise some of their pieces. They have a London showroom. Their customer service is wonderful too. I saved for one of their voluptuous gourd lamps and I still absolutely love it. Highly recommend if you are looking for a special piece.
Beautiful! Maybe a small brass cordless dining lamp on the counter and perhaps a second one on the windowsill would work. They can also be used to scape your table. Lots of beautiful options for them out there.
I can confirm it works really well. I used Zinsser 123 though on my pvc windows before painting them and 6 years later they still look as good as new. This is on the outside as well.
Fabulous result. Will the kitchen door be secure? Theoretically, it may be easy to break in through the glass by knocking out one pane? Maybe consider installing a security door for extra protection? Thank you for the video! 👍
Draping some gorgeous fabric above the window and door using curtain tie back posts might be a cheaper interim solution and won t block what limited light you have in the kitchen. Change up the fabric whenever you feel like it. Loving the styling; you are a natural.
I have hellebores in my garden, about eight of them. They like cool to cold weather. It is 2 c right now at 1pm. It will be much colder tonight. They do well in the summer since I have them in the shade, and I water them heavily daily when it is hot.
Hi ash enjoyed this vlog. We painted all of our upvc windows (outside!) in zinsser all coat colour matched to farrow and ball would highly recommend they look entirely different and have been fine for the last four years!
Bear in mind when you are staging kitchen that there not a lot of work top space to prepare food. The chopping boards could be lightly sanded with palm sander not taking away the integrity of the age of the boards. And the boards can still be used.
I agree with the darker door frame idea 😂. I was just going to comment on the same thing before you said it. I know people have thoughts about how it’s getting too dark but a dark, cozy, hobbit hole is always nice. I hope that isn’t rude to say 🙃
I love hellebores indoors especially around Christmas but they just don't survive indoors and are completely an outdoor plant so you're not doing anything wrong Ash!
If the fence immediately outside your kitchen window is yours why not hang some manger baskets planted with spring bulbs, hellebores and cyclamen you'll have a pretty view or herbs so they're convenient for cooking. 😊
Ash the better lighting (also in the thumbnail photo of the video) looks so much better! I always feel that in your shorts the lighting looks so professional but in the long form it was a bit dark. Now much improved! You have such good content and now can see it better!
I would clean up that paint that got on the window and paint the back door to match the farmhouse sink. It will make everything pop. Bright white all the way. 😊
Hi Ash, as usual, a lovely video. I wouldn’t paint the plastic frames of your kitchen window because paint doesn’t adhere to plastic, as you call it, very well. As for the kitchen door, I would leave it the color it is right now. Your kitchen is going to look gorgeous and well balanced. Have a good week.
Hellebores should be outside they thrive there in the Winter and you could have parsley or herbs instead. You need terracotta trays for the plants too to hold in the moisture. Trailing dark ivies would look lovely.
Hi Ash, it looks lovely, you definitely have an eye for these things. I love your style, taste and that you’re brave enough to follow through on your idea’s. I adore your kitchen and if your window frame had been wood, I would have said go for it, but just because of selling purposes I personally wouldn’t paint yours. However, I do think the door would look classy painted the same as your kitchen though. A wood pelmet the same colour as your kitchen might look nice. I’m sure whatever you decide on will look beautiful as always.
I think unless you plan to stay at this home I wouldn’t spend too much on decorating windows etc. Next people will change it to their taste anyway I guess. Lovely vlog thank you. ❤
Ash your kitchen is so beautiful and you styled it so nicely. It is very inviting the mahogany color is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing, I am thoroughly enjoying your content from New York!
If you like straight lines when painting, masking tape is a great thing to use, but always take off the tape when the paint is still a little wet so you are left with a straight line and not a messy uneven one! :)
Hi Ash. Top tip if ever removing silicone. Screwfix sell a silicone remover gel which you just brush on using the brush in the lid. They also have a silicone removal tool. Honestly both together gave great results and saved so much time. I was a bit sceptical at first but really worth a go. Also if you have any of those magic sponges that should easily remove paint from window frame. Love the kitchen colour and styling.
When I was a little girl I always wanted a split door with a ledge that you could opt to only open the top. In old movies the cook would cool her pies on the ledge and the dog would eat them. Since the window opens inward do you have to use a brass rod on each window panel? I would hate lifting the fabric to open. When I saw the egg holder American me said how cute and at Easter you can add marble or painted eggs forgetting you don’t refrigerate them in Europe. Love the color and like one comment if you are selling don’t paint the window.
Good to see you wearing jeans Ash! You don’t need to dress up,be yourself! That shirt color was my 1st impression, matching the walls! lol. Being in US, I dress or how I feel. Cheers Kirk
Greetings from Finland and Happy New Year 2025 - love the way the kitchen has turned out and all the nice pieces that add warmth and character to it. The window needs a small curtain for sure, but I'd leave them white, just to add some light and contrast against the warmer tones of red and wood.👌
I love your kitchen and will be looking forward to seeing the changes. I shared 2 other kitchen tours I thought you would like to see. One is from the US and another is from Great Britain.😊
I feel your kitchen window needs a blind to make it cosier and more cohesive and will hide the plastic window more. I definitely think the back door and window a mellow mushroom colour would look good as white is so stark and the walls too could all be a beige colour to soften the red. The same colour as your lamp base.
Oh boy are you ready for a manor house or Italian palazzo. The window frames, you need sash win dows in mahogany and the back door(love your choice)the same....
Hello Ash as you are considering a move I would leave the window and your new door white to reflect the light. Remove the red paint on your windows with a Q tip and acetone obviously nail varnish remover, dip the Q tip in water first then the acetone and go gently to get rid of the paint. I moved to London when I was 17 my first mortgage bought me a repo home in Islington that was a huge renovation I then moved to Greenwich I was very happy there for many years and finally moved to a house in the countryside just before Covid. I hope you consider a Greenwich move it’s a fantastic place to live.
Love the kitchen ,, have you considered a wider moulding around the door frame and maybe different hardware ,, thanks for sharing your lovely home and ideas ,,
Ooh, that looks lovely. I did comment a few weeks ago, and you replied, which is so nice. I liked that you didn't take it oersonally as I was coming from a good place. I have painted my PVC windows and they look fabulous. B&Q have a prenium paint range called Valspar and you can request any colour and they will make it. Cream windows would look great like Costwold cream. One you start you will want to do the whole lot, even the outside.
If you want to paint UPVC windows you MUST use a special ‘Difficult surfaces primer’ first. Otherwise the paint will flake off and look awful x I do like the window and door in white though x
Personally I wouldn't paint the window, not sure how well uvpvc paints but the white works with the door even if you replace with a different style door. If you find it difficult to decide on a fabric for a blind why not just have a pelmet to soften the window frame or you could try shutters but not sure the space is big enough. Good to learn about the right panelling for the right room👍
Just a personal view Ash, but I've always thought windows or glass panel doors should only ever be high-gloss white or black depending on surrounding colours. In the case of your kitchen, I think white looks perfect 👌
In my opinion, I think you should consider lightening up the paint colour in the rooms, there is too much dark paint for such low levels of natural light and if you are planning on selling buyers will expect more light. I appreciate you are going for a cosy vibe, but it doesn't translate very well on camera. I would also consider widening that back door to french doors, that again will let in more natural light and connect the kitchen to your beautiful garden, which currently you cannot really see.
I’m not sure whether painting plastic is an option. I would paint the back door to match the kitchen colour . Your styling is always on point so I’m sure whatever you do will be beautiful x❤
I am not sure about painting kitchen cabinets. Usually you have to clean the surfaces very often. The point is hygiene and visuals. Cooking will automatically lead to greasy surfaces no matter what. Just random dirt, Fingerprints and what ever can not be prevented. A common varnish is not sturdy enough. I have lacquered kitchen cabinets with a high sheen in a darker red. The coating is really thick und does not show scratches and such although the kitchen is now about 14 years in use and I clean all surfaces very often. At one drawer there is a tiny chip, therefore I can tell how thick the coating is. I did not paint it. Came with the colour I ordered after planning and pondering for about 6 month with the designer. But I painted common wood, door frames, wooden drawers and such. There is a significant difference between the coating / varnish. I think there are multiple layers of varnish on my cabinets like Chinese lacquer ware.
Ash, I cant believe you paid £300 for that lamp. Shop vintage! 🥰I have multiple large lamps all purchased for less than £50 including having a couple rewired. I love the fact they are individual. I love your channel.
Fabulous styling Ash and thanks for the tip re waterproof mdf tongue andd groove for kitchen, we are abvout to do that in ours. Love the idea of a darker tone on window and door but not sure about roman blind as will block a lot of light, obvs you would prefer something for privacy. Also the hellebores aren't happy indoors, nothing to do with watering. I'm starting to sound like a nagging mother!!
Okay my thoughts on the kitchen I like your colours. Why don’t you do your skirting board and door trim and window trim the same colour as your kitchen cabinets and baseboard but leave the door and the actual moving parts of the window white?
What i appreciate the most is that you didnt try to hide the imperfections in the room as so many other interior influencers do! The paint on the window, the scuff on the wall, the scratches on the back door. Thats real life! We all have them, we need more of that in these types of content! ❤❤❤
I love the window and door as they are … otherwise too dark. Fabulous styling by the way 👍🏼❤
Me too, thank you!
Thank you for showing how to refresh the chipped paint. I was just thinking about doing this. Also, love the soothing music!
Kitchen styling looks grt Ash, but I have to comment on the garden - how gorgeous does it look!
Silicone sealant isn’t meant to painted and paint doesn’t last on it as you have found. If you add a wooden beading it will still need sealant especially behind the sink. Hey ash

The colour is a dream just goes to show how being bold and brave can make a fab space.
Great idea, will have to have a look into some beading styles!
@ keep it simple
Love ur accessories and can’t resist a Sussex trug
The kitchen looks really cozy ~ who wouldn't love to cook in there?
Ash, I agree with the gentleman that suggested two buffet lamps. I have a pair in my kitchen, and not only does it provide additional work light, but when the other lights are off, the kitchen glows. It’s so true! Thank you
Ash, add 1 teaspoon of sugar to some boiling water, cool completely, then water your ferns with this every so often.Cheers😊
Have a thick piece of Calacatta Viola marble cut for the window ledge, this will hide the thicker window frame on the bottom. Add saucers to every plant, I use brass for the ones I need waterproof. Matchstick blinds. Pull it all together with wallpaper.
Hi Ash kitchens absolutely stunning even with the white paint bits!!! Love the way you styled it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well done! I do like your style. And really, what you love in your home, is what counts.
As for painting PVC, no. It will peel after time.
A tip to do with your bread.....before it goes to mold, slice it into sandwich size slices, put into a freezer bag and freeze it.
Great for toasting later.

Ask Charlie is a wonderful account. I follow her too
I actually completely agree with you, Definitely sticking to white! Amazing, so many people have been telling me about her Channel recently, thank you so much! I like the band name tbf 😂
I think pvc can be painted but needs a special primer/undercoat to help it stick.
You can actually by UPVC paint and it looks amazing. I have similar windows and I painted mine black years ago and they look amazing.
Looks amazing
I saw an interview with Joanna Lumley once where she said windows should always be white in order to bounce light around. I think she was right.
If Joanna Lumley said that, then white they shall stay 😂
Joanna Lumley said this when she did her programme about seeking out the northern lights. She was referring to external videos being white. I painted mine black on the inside and they make the greenery outside stand out so much.
Beautiful! I love how the white door & windows match the sink.

Yes . Farrow & ball dark mahogany on door & window.
As for lamps (?) two words: buffet lamps .
Zinsser bin would prime your plastic windows ect. Then you could over paint them.. Screwfix has it around 22 quid 👍
I can confirm it works really well. I used Zinsser 123 though on my pvc windows before painting them and 6 years later they still look as good as new. This is on the outside as well.
I like the door same as the wall color next to it so it blends. Nice styling! 😊
Fabulous result. Will the kitchen door be secure? Theoretically, it may be easy to break in through the glass by knocking out one pane? Maybe consider installing a security door for extra protection? Thank you for the video! 👍
Hi Ash, we're really enjoying your content so thank you. You have an excellent eye for colour and design. Always looking forward to your next video!
Draping some gorgeous fabric above the window and door using curtain tie back posts might be a cheaper interim solution and won t block what limited light you have in the kitchen. Change up the fabric whenever you feel like it. Loving the styling; you are a natural.

Hi ash enjoyed this vlog. We painted all of our upvc windows (outside!) in zinsser all coat colour matched to farrow and ball would highly recommend they look entirely different and have been fine for the last four years!
I always keep a lamp on the kitchen and bathroom counters, it really help pulling designs together
The kitchen looks perfect the way you styled it. The plants are so softening and the garden could not look better.
I think a Roman blind in a William morris print with a touch of burgundy would look good in your kitchen ash
Bear in mind when you are staging kitchen that there not a lot of work top space to prepare food.
The chopping boards could be lightly sanded with palm sander not taking away the integrity of the age of the boards. And the boards can still be used.
I agree, it doesn’t stay like this whilst I’m cooking haha! I think I’d butcher the boards if I sanded them, might give it a try though!
I agree with the darker door frame idea 😂. I was just going to comment on the same thing before you said it. I know people have thoughts about how it’s getting too dark but a dark, cozy, hobbit hole is always nice. I hope that isn’t rude to say 🙃
So funny, I think it needs it but I’m probably going to play it safe and keep it white!

Ooh looking forward to watching this! 👍🏼 Edit: Beautiful. Love the trugg. I must look out for one ☺️
enjoying your cozy jewel tone design ideas ! ..how about painting the window and door a wood look to match your counter top
A black metal back door with lots of glass in would look amazing, you could paint your window frame black as well.
Looks gorgeous! I would replace the plants with potted herbs that you use regularly, such as basil, mint, thyme, etc.
Great idea, although herbs don’t love my dark house 🥲
@@ashmazzina you can always get a grow light to supplement your lighting. I have one in my kitchen and I grow lettuces and herbs in the winter.
Hi Ash, as usual, a lovely video. I wouldn’t paint the plastic frames of your kitchen window because paint doesn’t adhere to plastic, as you call it, very well. 😊😊good idea about using the wooden chopping boards to cover sockets
A navy provencal print would look lovely in your kitchen.
I do use it usually but like to test my freehand abilities 😉😂
You have very nice pieces. I think the window and door would look nice that same as the lighter wall color.
For the curtains, something a bit "cottage-y" or farmhouse would be nice I think! I think a sort of burlap would add texture and also fit perfectly!
Hi Ash. Top tip if ever removing silicone. Screwfix sell a silicone remover gel which you just brush on using the brush in the lid. They also have a silicone removal tool. There called a Dutch door here in the US I also love a Dutch door ❤
We call them stable doors in the UK, and the I think they look great especially with a shelf.
Would love to see more antique shopping with you. Kitchen is beautiful.
More to come! Thank you
I like the door in a neutral color slightly darker perhaps. Gives a good contrast to the wall without overpowering it.
Good to see you wearing jeans Ash! You don’t need to dress up,be yourself! That shirt color was my 1st impression, matching the walls! lol. Being in US, I dress or how I feel. Cheers Kirk
With your stained chopping board it could be worth sanding and oiling it to sanitize it, its such a good sized board.
Greetings from Finland and Happy New Year 2025 - love the way the kitchen has turned out and all the nice pieces that add warmth and character to it. The window needs a small curtain for sure, but I'd leave them white, just to add some light and contrast against the warmer tones of red and wood.👌
Happy new year! Totally agree, thank you so much!
I love your kitchen and will be looking forward to seeing the changes. I shared 2 other kitchen tours I thought you would like to see. One is from the US and another is from Great Britain.😊

Hello Ash as you are considering a move I would leave the window and your new door white to reflect the light. Door and window little green London clay 😊
Love the kitchen ,, have you considered a wider moulding around the door frame and maybe different hardware ,, thanks for sharing your lovely home and ideas ,,
Leave the pvc that colour especially in future if you sell.Good luck with the makeover!
I agree, painted upvc would look a bit tacky!
Darker for the door and window would complete the cosy vibes
Ooh, that looks lovely. I did comment a few weeks ago, and you replied, which is so nice. I liked that you didn't take it oersonally as I was coming from a good place. I have painted my PVC windows and they look fabulous. B&Q have a prenium paint range called Valspar and you can request any colour and they will make it. Cream windows would look great like Costwold cream. One you start you will want to do the whole lot, even the outside.
Great job ash looking cosy
Hi guys! Wonderful decoration ❤I would rather prefer to keep the white colour for the window and the door
Thank you! I agree, white it is
If you want to paint UPVC windows you MUST use a special ‘Difficult surfaces primer’ first.
Hey Ash. Great hair cut 😎
lovely look happy new year to you both xx nice haircut too x
Happy new year!! Thank you 🫶🏻
Hi Ash, Window and door as they are 👌
Personally, I think making the door, what seems to be a deep navy blue, like on the hanging plate, would be nice.
Maybe add an aged brass panel on your door where the dog scratches.
Enough dark colour. The window & door in the wall colour maybe? Aussie Bob 😅
Hi Ash and Chad, regarding your blind. Have you thought about finding a fabric and having your blind made by a seamstress ?
I’m not sure whether painting plastic is an option.
I would paint the back door to match the kitchen colour . Your styling is always on point so I’m sure whatever you do will be beautiful x❤
Great idea! Thank you so much!
Keep your window and door white it looks much sharper and will help mate the kitchen lighter
Hi Ash loving your blog this morning. Just wondered whether you & Chad have considered sash windows for the kitchen
We had but in all honesty either we or the next people who own this home will extend the kitchen so a waste of money really!
Mind the Gap - Chelsea Harbour for lamps etc ⭐️
Will check it out, thank you!
Stunning 😍
Keep your windows light. What pairing does farrow and ball recommend?
Pour moi je laisserais la porte et la fenêtre en blanc ❤
Fabulous styling Ash and thanks for the tip re waterproof mdf tongue andd groove for kitchen, we are abvout to do that in ours. Love the idea of a darker tone on window and door but not sure about roman blind as will block a lot of light, obvs you would prefer something for privacy. Also the hellebores aren't happy indoors, nothing to do with watering. I'm starting to sound like a nagging mother!!
I would leave the color of door and window the same. I think making them darker makes the room less light and bright.
Agreed! Thank you
Okay my thoughts on the kitchen I like your colours. Why don’t you do your skirting board and door trim and window trim the same colour as your kitchen cabinets and baseboard but leave the door and the actual moving parts of the window white?
Yes you can paint pvc .in a victorian house those windows would look much better if you did.
Thank you!
What about Belgian linen curtains?
I think linen is the way to go, I always want patterned but then I get bored. At least linen is timeless!
