"and I don't care!" 🤣🤣🤣 You are correct; it is your home to decorate however you like. Personally, I love to read and decorate with books. You go dude! 😁
If looking at your books on the shelf fills you with joy and happiness, that's all that matters. Our homes are our sacred spaces-a reflection of who we are and what we love. Surround yourself with the things that inspire peace, comfort, and delight. After all, your space should be a haven for your happiness.
Good for you for doing what you like in your own home!! It's nonsense for people to have strong opinions on your likes or dislikes. Your kitchen ideas sound lovely, you're doing a splendid job with your home welldone😊
OMG I was not expecting you to mention XO, Macenna! I absolutely adore her. And keep your library as you like lol. Can't wait for the kitchen reno. The tile design is so cute!
Love the bookshelf! Love your response to the hater’s. It’s your life we’re just lucky you are sharing it! XO Mcenna fan as well so glad I found your videos love your style!
I like the look of the tiles! I am sorry you were trolled about the books. You rescued a lot of books from certain destruction and that is admirable. Some books go out of fashion and they are never read from the date of publication. These books are being rescued by you for their visual artistic merit and that is a plus! Thank you for rescuing the books (I am a book lover!) and for the video.
I love spending time in the cemetery, I'm usually out tending the family plots at least one day a week. It's often like having a whole park to ones self. Very peaceful and quiet.
I like your books. It gives a old world look. They are tastefully displayed. I love, love, love that gorgeous lamp under the picture. Who cares what other people think. Their opinion is just that. It doesn’t make it a fact.
Sweetie, uneven tiles are indeed beautiful but very difficult to clean in a kitchen especially above and around a cooker. Your house/home is lovely. Cheers! 🥂
Unglazed tiles and grease splatters? Stylish gentlemen shouldn’t be guilty of this. Heed the warning dear boys. I’ve recently discovered this channel and can’t wait to see more.
I like your tile choices and the hearth will add interest to your space. The brass brackets are also a lovely detail. Our homes are meant to be personal and other people being offended by how people live in their spaces is odd IMHO. I’m looking forward to your home projects.TYFS😊
That lamp is gorgeous!! Love those leather books wish I could find some near me. I just built a library in my front room and I have no shame when I say I will decorate with old books. also as for the Zelige tiles...I love them I have in two places in my home and the depth & character is priceless
The lamp and the picture above look amazing so co-ordinated and beautiful. I think a carpenter would be an ideal option for a kitchen - someone who could build in what you need. I have an MFI kitchen and it is wonderful and lasts so well and wears so well. They are not around now but I am glad I have it.
I love walking through old cemetery's, the peacefulness and history, Highgate cemetery in London is amazing, I moved to Spain year's ago , their cemetery's are totally different, Vienna has some beautiful cemetery's,where wild deer roam free .
I think older books look beautiful in the right setting. I like how you've arranged your bookcases very vintage which is so refreshing to see nowadays. So much vintage things have been lost to "modern and new world technology" but that means we've lost so much character.
hahahah "and I don't care!"..... good for you Ash. Can't wait to see what you do with the kitchen, and really like those Nkuku bits and bobs you showed us at the end.
I think bookcases add another layer to the look of a room. I love them. Can I also say I really really really LOVE the lamp on the table besides the “book case”
Omg my dad is buried there. It’s such a beautiful cemetery, especially in the summer when all flowers are in full bloom. My kitchen was from Howdens and I as really impressed with them. They came around measure, 3d images etc.
Good to know you're starting off the New Year without any major health concerns...reminds me of that famous quote by philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The first wealth, is health"...
Your are right, it's your house. I don't understand why people react so intense. Just live and let live. I think the kitchen will be beautiful with the new changes 😉
I absolutely love your books Ash! I'm in Australia and we don't have access to lovely old books like you do. Whenever I come to the UK, I purchase as many old books as I can transport home. I read some of them 😉
Hiya fellas. So pleased Chad & yourself are all fit & healthy you can sleep east tonight. The lamp by the controversy book shelf is so beautiful. Lovely to see Doogle enjoying his frosty walk. Really excited to see your new kitchen. Keep safe
Love large cemeteries, have you been to Brompton. I think you would adore it, it’s wild flowers, and it’s huge, with sweeping Colonnades and its very grand but at the same time quite rambling, please look at its web site, there’s a small 5 minute film of it. I’m sure your subs would like to see you film within. The Barbican, shame you didn’t go inside, the foyer space and coffee and bar areas, is all rather lovely. There’s so much goes on Inside that place. A Theatre, a nice concert space etc. it is brutal but it’s well loved by its inhabitants and it’s fairly expensive to live and a buy there. And that’s a great location too.
First of all, the way you transformed that ikea piece is amazing! I personally hate ikea, but if used and styled beautifully then count me in. When it comes to old books as decorative pieces, WHO THE HELL CARES! Do what you want to do with them. I think you did a great job! I actually wanted to thank you for doing it since it’s giving us additional ideas for decorating our home
Ash, just a thought. If you intend to use those lovely tiles behind the cooker please beaware the lighter ones being textured will attract the grease and genetral cooking fallout. They may be a sod to keep clean!
I am liking Chad more and more and he is so accurate in his description of the AI scanning. I have moles and yes it is good to have scans but you can get hung up on all the medical fear. So good to hear you are both healthy as I am very fond of you two now.
If you’re installing tile above the stove I probably recommend to stick with identical upper cabinetry or open shelves on both sides of the tile. With a visual piece like that if you add cabinets on one side and then shelves on the other side, the tile might get lost. To give you an example, I added a stainless steel range hood above the stove when I remodeled and installed Quartz as the backdrop, but I made the mistake of installing an upper cabinet with a pocket for a microwave on the right and an upper cabinet without one on the left, and now it just looks off. Stick to symmetry.
😊😊I like your plans for the kitchen, quite Victorian(the house is telling you, plus great taste)I'm sure you have thought of this, open shelves take alot of cleaning, even if you don't cook several times a day😊😊but your kitchen will be great what ever you decide.
From the mid range kitchens I'd recommend Magnet, mine's 15 years old and still looks great it's a solid wood shaker so doesn't date, another one I'd recommend is Howdens, I had a great fitter so he adapted and customised cabinets etc to fit the space, it makes a world of difference to the finished look. Think the tiles will work👍 A GP will do like an MOT for you, bloods/pressure, weight etc.
I’m with you. I’ve been collecting English antique leather bound book for a long time. I live in the US, so I’m paying for shipping also. I do collect subjects that I’m interested in. But, can I say I’ve read them all? No. But they look beautiful on a bookcase. I don’t stack them all vertically. Every so often I’ll stack 2-4 horizontal which serves 3 functions. It breaks up overall design, holds the other vertical books upright without the need for bookends & you can then place other decorative objects on top of the books (like a small Staffordshire dog or an antique tea caddy). Yes, I’m a bit of an Anglophile. But I lived in Suffolk for a number of years & definitely brought home an English sense of design. I think it’s amazing what you’ve done with your home. I’ve never tried color drenching, but I love the vibe it gives off. Always decorate in a manner that suits your style and makes you happy. The interior of your home & the gardens are exactly my style.👍🏻 Best regards.
We have many books and some of them we are reading, but the most part is pure decorative ! So i agree your point that this your choice and your House. Love the video ! Kitchen plan is looking great and i would tile the side of the cooking zone. The choice the of the tiles is beautiful !
Ash, love the idea of the clay and the gloss red tiles with the kitchen cabinets. The thought occurred to me, what about tiling the entire inside of the kitchen hearth and include shelves like one might in a shower? BTW, I've long admired the lamp in the dining room. Could you tell us more about it? I love the scale and color. BTW, HNY and congrats on your scans.
In the U.S. books are used for decor. Yours are beautiful. Trying to find books that are compatible is hard. Love all your doing to your home. Need to finish a few projects Ash. 😅
I have those exact brackets from Yester, they are lovely. I mixed them with some bits from Devol. Devol do great kitchen lights by the way. Worth a look. Love your content xx
Love your videos also your style both in your fashion & in the home, the Barbican like most London council estates are now worth a fortune, when back in the 80s I couldn’t wait to move out of them, oh if I knew what I know now, but life is an adventure & we take our chances all ends up for the best in the end, don’t change your style for others if they don’t like it, bugger off, oh and I loved your talk about the kitchen ( the backsplash at the back ) made me laugh 😂😂 xx
Books has been decorative fixtures in homes for a very, very, very long time. Who is the book hater. And I think it’s especially cool that you collect the leather bound books. They clearly add an extra touch of style to the room. I still can’t get over the book haters. Astonished. ❤
My kitchen cabinets were painted with oil based paint (color alabaster SW) and have held up extremely well over 18 yrs. I would not put red tiles in your kitchen because you might want a different color someday and would have to re-tile. I love the way your bookshelves are styled. I use books though mine are not valuable. I have purchased them at Goodwill and the local library. I recently found a matching set of 10-12 books from 1948 at Goodwill. They were $3 apiece.
First of all lots of designers use books as part of the decor, seems like you are on point to me. Love the music you choose for all of the segments and love the tours in the city and all around. In my opinion the tile will be stunning.
Ive just saved a couple of boxes of books being dumped by our library as "redundant" so I feel that any use is better than the tip. Especially for something nicely bound.
I like your choice for tiles behind the cooker. The only concern is if the octagon shape tile is not glazed it most likely will get stains from cooking. Have you considered an exhaust hood above the cooker? Your ideas look very interesting.
Never mind what others think, Ash if you like your antique books, that's what matters. What people should be is respectful with opinions. Never they should be rude or nasty. Love your home and your videos music Ash. Happy New Year to you both.

Hi Ash, thanks for sharing everything .... pop your candlesticks w/wax into the freezer ~ really helps removing the wax! (you probably already know this) ....
I find it odd people would have a strong opinion about using books for decoration. It’s your home and you do what makes you happy and those who do not like it can do what makes them happy…
If you are thinking of the Moroccan tiles, ensure you thought through cleaning the cooking grease off the back. My friends who have had these tiles regretted them being used for a backsplash over the stove (cooker). On the hearth idea over the stove, my general perspective is "things that are imitation, generally look imitation." I did like your idea of a copper hood, which would better blend into the kitchen size wise and look more authentic. You said it yourself on one of your first vids. The kitchen is where you have your best memories growing up. (I can relate being Italian dissent as it is my favourite memory growing up.) Given all the hard work you made to make your home become an 'authentic" Victorian home, make sure your kitchen answers this spirit. Realise this is one perspective. As always the case, "you do you".
I am confused by hearth as a hearth is at the base of a fireplace where the grate stands. Also look into bio-ethanol gases in rooms. I was going to put one in until I read about it. Esse, a German company do some amazing electric stoves including a cast iron one that emits heat and when turned off has a heat hold of around half an hour. Not as horrible as the normal ones to look at and very heavy.
I love cemeteries, I love the Barbican, and I don’t care if you read the books on your shelves! I have lots of bookshelves crowded with books. Most I’ve read, but some were gifts that I’ve never read, or books I started and never finished, or books I read so long ago I can’t remember anything about them. Just saying….
"and I don't care!" 🤣🤣🤣 You are correct; it is your home to decorate however you like. Personally, I love to read and decorate with books. You go dude! 😁

Probably mentioned before by others, but your music selections are quite comforting.Thank you for that.
Oh I LOVE decorating with books! And that lamp?? I especially love it!
I loved seeing the fox ❤🦊 You have so many lovely places nearby. Start walking or going on hikes together. Bring Dougal & the camera!
Agreed 👍. It would be utterly delightful to tag along virtually . I love watching walking/hiking vids through the UK especially along canals .
@ Right? They love architecture too.
50 odd years ago my dad took me to the Barbican as it was being built, Ive loved Brutalism Architecture ever since
OMG I was not expecting you to mention XO, Macenna! I absolutely adore her. And keep your library as you like lol. Can't wait for the kitchen reno. The tile design is so cute!

Sweetie, uneven tiles are indeed beautiful but very difficult to clean in a kitchen especially above and around a cooker.
Your house/home is lovely.
Cheers! 🥂
I agree re the tiles. Plus, and I could be wrong, but the clay one looked - and sounded - unglazed. Unglazed clay tiles as a splash-back?!
Unglazed tiles and grease splatters? Stylish gentlemen shouldn’t be guilty of this. Heed the warning dear boys. I’ve recently discovered this channel and can’t wait to see more.
Thank you Ash it’s your home thank you for showing us❤ Kate
Ash, your book shelves are lovely! You are looking smart yourself! Keep up your good gym workouts!

Such a handsome, lovely couple, I appreciate you both, hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Well said Ash. It’s your home. Thank you Chad for letting us know how much the health check cost. Loved seeing the fox❤
💕You mentioned about the straight line in your home so if you rotate your backsplash design by 90 degrees it will look unique💕

Your kitchen mock-up is actually nicer than I had expected...just be wary of having so many shelves that dusting becomes a full time job.
In the U.S. books are used for decor. Yours are beautiful. Trying to find books that are compatible is hard. Love all your doing to your home. Need to finish a few projects Ash. 😅
Love those beautiful books, that huge lamp is beautiful.
13:00 I love your amber lamp! Its gorgeous. Is it Antique?
I have those exact brackets from Yester, they are lovely. I mixed them with some bits from Devol. Devol do great kitchen lights by the way. Worth a look. Love your content xx
Ash, may suggest , leveling the cornice over the cooker maybe even a hearth shelf thing.... Just a thought.

I think I met the fox in London last year on our family trip . I took a nice photo.Greetings from Germany!
Another fun video, who gives a ... whether you read the books! Health check looks interesting and can't wait to see the changes in the kitchen
My thoughts exactly 😂 thank you, Can’t wait to share!
Ask Charlie has a new kitchen with your vision for the jars etc! Love your style and Chad is such a darling!!

I so agree with you not caring about the book trolls. Enjoy as you wish. Looks beautiful
Never mind what others think, Ash if you like your antique books, that's what matters. What people should be is respectful with opinions. Never they should be rude or nasty. Love your home and your videos music Ash. Happy New Year to you both.

New subscriber ! ❤🎉 love your style and the antique books!! ❤ its your house, people collect cheap tat from china to boast on the grammmmm for shits and gigs they never use. Much prefer antiques 😍😍😍
I love books and your books add warmth and color. I am a boomer mom and worried that you both are not wearing hats. Your ears were red and you will get cold. So glad you both had great scans. Enjoy all your content.
So glad you are both healthy
Hi Ash 😊good thing you went to get checked health wise. I can see Chad looks worried. He should try to loose a bit. It would be good for him.
Love your books Ash! Who did your alcove cupboards and shelving? ❤
I have not been under snow at all. It snowed one night and melted by morn. We have had bright sunshine with the iciness. Good for you Ash as I am at the stage where I love Winter too. Why moan about the weather when some countries are hot all year round - yuck and others cold all year round and tsunamis, earthquakes, fires, volcanic activity, awful insects etc.
I love your books, my first thought is you could place some vertical to break up the visual. To each their own.
I agree with you re leather bound books. Lovely. Aussie Bob 😊
Ash, thanks for making me laugh first thing in the morning. Just do you!
Nice to see where you walked Dougal.A happy dog
the picture of St Pauls between the modern buildings with the black sky..wow
I like the Barbican but appreciate I’m in a minority 😂. Did you visit the gardens. Stunning and worth a visit when they’re open.
I googled it and apparently there a lot of wild foxes in the City of London!
Hi Ash not sure about the bio fire as I've heard they cause a lot of condensation and you need to have a window open. ❤ xx
I like your books I do the same thing. I enjoy collecting them.
I am confused by hearth as a hearth is at the base of a fireplace where the grate stands. Also look into bio-ethanol gases in rooms. I was going to put one in until I read about it. Good for you ash 😂, as you say, you don't care, it's your home and you style it beautifully, everyone's taste is different, .❤
What's the name of that shop you mentioned at the end? Where you got the candle sticks etc.
