A big yes on watching the design elements, and since you asked I would go lighter on the floors, on a practical level the dark will show every mark and piece of dust.
the lighter floor is to modern, why turn it in to another destroyed house 🤣, not everything has to be white, begie,or baby puke color, older houses where darker, plus it´s not even that dark!
I want to see all of it - design, remodeling, outtakes, the singing - all of it. It's the highlight of my day :) Huge round of applause for the plumber. That looked like quite the job. As for the coving, it looks great. I hope all the future coving jobs go smoothly. I LOL'd at the "damn your eyes!"
The person who did all of the pipe work needs to be praised!!!! The attention to detail looks amazing. It is rare to find someone who puts so much effort as to make it actually look attractive. You are very fortunate to have such great contractors.
There are pros and cons to each color. The lighter color will help keep the room feeling open and light but has a more modern look. The darker color is more historic but will make the room feel heavier, more oppressive and will also show more dirt on the floor.
I had a 100+ year old oak floor which was stained dark walnut when new, because walnut was considered upscale at the time, and natural oak was "common". I found the floor always looked dusty in the old house. Eventually, I had it all sanded and refinished in a clear semi-matte stain. With the fact that the oak was 100+ years old, it turned out a beautiful honey oak color. I'm very pleased, and the floors don't ever look dusty!
I owned many houses with different floors, I remember all visible on the dark floors. With my love for my Persian gentlemen cats a curse. I had dark, light, whatever suited the age of the house. The house I live in now is only 74 years old, and I have a whitewashed floor. To be honest, you don't see a thing on it. Only drips of coffee are visible. And that doesn't happen that much. Don't go too dark, wait a little how you like it, you can always go darker, not the other way around. I do like to see you two work together.
No stain. Keep it the light natural color with a clear finish. Our natural color floor are still beautiful after 36 years. The dog prints, foot prints, etc do not show on the natural color. Dark floors are a nightmare to keep clean looking. Good luck. You are doing great.
Tip: Applying a sanding sealer on those floor panels to help the stain go into each piece of wood evenly. Yes, it's more work, but the floor color will look more even and won't have big blotches of different hues of stain colors like some dark and some areas lighter with patches of stain where the wood takes the stain differently. It works!!
Dark floors can be so dramatic, but they show EVERY spec of dust and dirt. I had one installed and while it was super pretty it was a lot of work keeping it looking that way.
"Yes Darling!,"Thank you Darling!" I was laughing so hard when you were holding all that wood while he was moving the saw horses back and forth! Bless your Hearts! You're getting it Done!!❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I ♥️ you actually used ROY G BIV I always do the same whether it’s around the house 🏡 places it wouldn’t seem to make a difference. Yet, you did! ☺️ I am so envious, if you are from the UK 🇬🇧 my ♥️ and Soul truly belong there.
Good Morning from South Australia… obsessed with your building & very impressed with Louis’ coving… you must do as you like but I do think the dark timber floor is too dark & prefer the first colour … I think contrast looks really beautiful & the colour is more authentic… I’m in Australia & bought european oak for my parquetry because even as a child I loved the parquet floors in their natural colour that I saw in France. The dark is too dingy & oppressive & will not inject any lightness, it will also make the area look smaller🤭 you can tell me to shut up. Love your videos, keep up the excellent work… 🌸
I live in Canada. We have dark hardwood flooring and it is beautiful, however it shows dust daily. If you don’t mind dusting a lot go for dark. If I was redoing my floors I would go with a lighter oak colour for this very reason. Really enjoying your journey. Good for you guys.
Put your stain on with a rag. Much easier. The darker stain you go the more dirt and even dust will show. That may drive you nuts. Remember you will probably also have rugs thrown about.
I agree with other comments. Dark shows every speck. If you have any pets, you will need to vacuum you floors frequently. I suggest you pick a light color that will contrast with the stain on the stairs. The floor should be in the “background” of your interior decorating.
You just said to Louis that he did a fab job. He secretly that is all he needs. The support you give him is precious. Beautiful in many ways. Love it from all angles.
Kudos to you for tackling the cornices/moldings without ending up divorced! After horribly botching several DIY attempts at crown molding/wainscoting and a lot of squabbling with my spouse, I started buying the fake stuff with applied corners! Once painted, it doesn’t look too bad. BUT, in my next house, hiring professionals! 😊
Absolutely show us everything, its all so fascinating. You guys are killing it, when you look back in years to come it will be with awe and wonder at what you have actually created. You both are simply amazing...
An oil based top coating for your flooring will add a yellow tone to the colour, whereas a water based coating will not. The darker the colour the more dust it will show. Ditto shine level. Good luck! (Have you considered a modern colour - white washed or natural with a low sheen water based top coat to contrast the wonderful old original woodwork? Just another concept.)
Natural oak colored flooring, Matt finished…trust me, you need to get this right, it’s expensive and time consuming to do over. Think of a more long term solution, any kind of dark brown toned stain will show dust and scratches, if you go stained, rather than natural, err on side of warm grays, not honey tones, the wrong color will cheapen real wood flooring in a swipe and I know your floorings are the real deal…keep it classy, elegant, like the bones of the regal house your renovating, great job btw, hard works paying off, fun & interesting viewing, production first class
Love the way Louis is always making sure you are safe and don't get hurt, he is very sweet while your quirky sense of humour makes the videos fun to watch. Covi g looked beautiful guys
My husband is a plumber and he said the technical term for when the pipes go over the other ones is called a ‘Hop over’ 😊 it’s all coming along great and you’re really making some progress. Well done ❤
I love watching you two work together! And yes, I would love to see your design choices. I am enjoying every step of this renovation. You two are a delight!
Well done, both of you on the coving. The angles can be tricky, but you did it without much trouble. It'll look lovely when it's finished and painted. You’ll never know it's not plaster. Personally, I'm not a fan of dark wood but agree it's more in keeping with the house. It's all coming along nicely.
A big yes to the kitchen design content!! Agree i have dark almost black tiles in my kitchen and they are impossible to keep clean and show every single mark. Loving all your content, makrs me smile so much, "you'd be a stud wall" will remain with me forever 😂
Great job for your first time with those angles, it's a lot more difficult than most people think. It looks amazing and when it's all calked in and painted it will be perfect. The one drawback of doing your own jobs is you get to see the tiny flaws that you wouldn't normally notice, so don't be too hard on yourself. The tradesmen see their work a lot less perfect than you think. I'm amazed at how much has been done already, looking forward to the design as well, it's all part of the house.🙏👌❤️
I would love to see the design process. I am rooting for you guys to get a DeVol sponsorship with a discount on your kitchen or something! ❤️ I think a darker stain is good for this house, but maybe a little less dark than the one you were looking at. It looked almost black, and in a large space will make everything very dark.
when we were remodeling and building new space in our home we bought a compound miter saw to help with the fit and coping angles. Yes - we did have to resort to the hand coping saw a few times. Lessons learned on fitting trim!
That coving will be lovely when it's finished. I'm amazed at how well you cut it to fit (not easy) Like everyone else I'm impressed with the plumbers work.
Oh my goodness Millie you don’t need to ask every single thing you are doing I love & extremely interested in. The kitchen such a huge part. I can’t believe the work your both doing and at such an incredible level of professionalism and dedication. Truly you’re both incredible . Thanks for sharing. I know it takes a lot to post every week. Most people fall by the wayside . Thanks it’s my weekly obsession lol .
17:56 - sometimes you cant get something perfectly perfect. for the gap that is in that corner, i'd just plaster it. no one is going to be looking with a magnifying glass at all your work, but i do like your standard of perfection. keep it up Louis!
I love that you two are taking great care in saving this old home for the past generations at the same giving it back for present and future generations. What a gift❣️ Doing such a major project together.... is a story your children and grandchildren will adore and admire you for. God bless 😊
I just love how the pair of you just knuckle down & get on with things. Everything seems to be moving along at a good pace. All those pipes & figuring out what goes where, looked like a nightmare to me. What a great plumber you had doing that job. Can't wait for your next episodes. I find every bit of your renovation fascinating & would love to see your kitchen planning stages (& any other room plans that come along). You're doung a great job.
A big yes to watching the design element. Would agree with many of the comments on staining the floor light to start with until you get to the shade you are happy with. X
Hi Molly & Louis, A big well done Louis, you’re doing a fantastic job, installing the gorgeous coving! I’m from a big family of UK various trades! I do have an eye, for great work ! You both need to be ,very proud of yourselves ! What your both doing, isn’t for the faint hearted! I absolutely love the parquet flooring sample! I don’t like any kind of stain, that has a hint of orange! I love the dark stain, but I think a touch lighter shade, would look great! Take your time, before you both decide on a shade, you both love! I love watching character homes, being renovated, especially in the UK ! I live in Australia 🇦🇺 now, and we don’t have home’s anything like, the old houses in the UK ! Thank you so much for sharing, your journey with us ! 🥰
Darker floors show the dirt faster. If you go, something along the line of a natural red oak colouring, it gives you the colour you want without showing the dirt all the time.
Your patience with the old structure is remarkable. These places truly require it. In our Czech farmhouse, every door & window was a different dimension. And there’s not a plumb wall in the entire place. Floors are level only because we had to take out & replace the entire foundation. 😂 You’re doing a lovely job. It’s all about embracing the details. 💗
The coving looks amazing. You both did a fantastic job. I love watching your home gradually coming together. It is going to look so wonderful when it is finished. Wheat is brilliant is that it is going to be a proper home and not being divided up into flats like so many of the historic old houses are. Including where I live. I live in a street of Georgian Houses and they have all been converted into flats. I often wonder how the house I live in was when it was a home. 😊
I love seeing all of the design process! My two cents is this. Stay with a light floor. It lets the natural glow of the wood in, and will maintain the wonderful light coming through the windows. If you decide after, you want to pull some dark tones in, you can do that with rugs. Also, and please believe this is from years of experience, don't use wood in the kitchen. It is a maintenance nightmare. The age of your house would let you go with some cool encaustic tiles, or you could go with big (the size of your parquet panels) nonslip neutral tiles so that you can have lots of fun with the rest of the decorating. And yes, everyone's coving looks like that underneath. ❤❤
That precisely! And please take a break from it all now and then, just for a day or two. Things look more clear from a little distance, and you need to keep up your health and stamina… So important!
Congratulations Beatley Tone well deserved upon your 5000 subscribers on the channel ,your a breath of fresh air to TH-cam, it good to see you looking well don't over do it you must take care of yourself. Regards Sean
That coving has made such a difference already. Impressed you guys did it yourselves. Definitely yes on the design appointments. Dark flooring can suck the light out of a room and show every imperfection and bit of dust. If that isn’t important to you, or you are happy to put up with it in the name of the design, then go for it, otherwise I would probably go lighter.
A big yes on watching the design elements, and since you asked I would go lighter on the floors, on a practical level the dark will show every mark and piece of dust.
A lot easier to go lighter and change your mind than the other way around.
Yeah, too dark flooring will show up everything. If you do go for one of the darker options, go for the lighter one 👍
the lighter floor is to modern, why turn it in to another destroyed house 🤣, not everything has to be white, begie,or baby puke color, older houses where darker, plus it´s not even that dark!
I have a dark kitchen floor and it shows every crumb.
Dark shows dust really badly. Looks great on photos but only because they’ve spent an age cleaning it.

There are pros and cons to each color. The lighter color will help keep the room feeling open and light but has a more modern look. The darker color is more historic but will make the room feel heavier, more oppressive and will also show more dirt on the floor.
Yes it will definitely show dirt , crumbs and anything up. I'd forgotten the floor we had in the late 1970's
Usually floors were not stained the same as the trim. I'm afraid the rooms might be a little dark.
I had a 100+ year old oak floor which was stained dark walnut when new, because walnut was considered upscale at the time, and natural oak was "common". @@craigtiano3455 exactly .. love that colour!!
At first I was just an occasional viewer, but your couple charisma is very infectious and now I never miss an episode.
I wait for Wednesday.
It is so rare to see youn g people so organised .
I have to say
This couple are class.
Yes to videos with you picking things out for your house. Always fun to see the entire process! ❤
I owned many houses with different floors, I remember all visible on the dark floors. With my love for my Persian gentlemen cats a curse. I had dark, light, whatever suited the age of the house. Props to Terry the Plumber. Those pipes are soooo satisfying
I love your channel! It's so nice to see a young couple appreciate an old house.
Thank you so much! 😊
Fab job Guys, I'm a Carpenter for the last 46yrs and I would have struggled with that 👏👏👏👏
My favorite would be to go light on the floor. You could darken it at a later time if you decide you don’t like the lighter stain. Happy times!
It works!!
Agree, it is essential or it can be very uneven. At least it was on timber I (disastrously) stained.
I thought the excess stain was supposed to be wiped off with a cloth after applying with a brush so there weren’t blotches of darker areas. ???
Do you mean a wood conditioner? It prepares the wood grain to accept the stain more evenly since the grain openness varies.
The design aspect would be nice to see. Teach us the order things should be done. 😊
Great work!
A BIG yes to watching the design elements PLEASE! That's always so tricky, so it would be fun to see your process. Cheers from the US!
Doesn't matter what you guys film we are interested in it all 😊
Dark floors can be so dramatic, but they show EVERY spec of dust and dirt. I had one installed and while it was super pretty it was a lot of work keeping it looking that way.
A big yes for the design planning 🤩
I would go lighter on the floors otherwise your entryway will be too dark with the dark wood staircase. Keep up the great work !
Recommend you go light on floors.Dark floors are impossible to keep clean looking.Every bit of dust is visible.I know I made that mistake😢😢😢
My parents realised their error when just one room had the dark wood floor laid. Light wood was just perfect.
All corner mitres fit perfectly with filler 😂🤘🏻
Amen my brother, amen.
(Don't look at my skirting boards...😅)
Really enjoy your updates. Dark flooring shows dust. Depends on how tidy you are when it's all done. Lighter floors work better for me.
The planning for the renovation is enormous. Good job by all.
"Yes Darling!,"Thank you Darling!" I was laughing so hard when you were holding all that wood while he was moving the saw horses back and forth! Bless your Hearts! You're getting it Done!!❤🧡💛💚💙💜

The coving makes such a difference! Well done! The floor will be exciting to watch take shape…great foundation to plan your kitchen around. Thank you!

My favourite part of a Wednesday!
The work looks fantastic, decorating is very enjoyable.
Even though that is a tough job you both did very well!
I appreciate your willingness to do things authentic and right.
Definitely love to see the design parts! It’s lovely to see how much progress you’ve made. The windows look great!
Go for the lighter floor. Almost natural in fact. Will keep the house light and bright
The patience and kindness you show each other with such a big, stressful project, is lovely too see. Love your videos.
That flooring is AMAZING! You two don't need any advice. 🤔💚💪

That is one gigantic crown molding 😮 i like the lighter floor stain. Looks good🎉
Perfect timing! Just as i sat down, something amazing came on
This looks like how I used to feel in Maths class at school. Would have done my head in. Louis you did so well. Of course the expert help is vital!!
I like the lightest finish - the most natural looking one.
Don't forget to 'like' folks, it helps them
Love the way Louis is always making sure you are safe and don't get hurt, he is very sweet while your quirky sense of humour makes the videos fun to watch. Covi g looked beautiful guys
It is marvellous to see two really working together and making it seem enjoyable for both ! Who makes lunch ?
My husband is a plumber and he said the technical term for when the pipes go over the other ones is called a ‘Hop over’ 😊 it’s all coming along great and you’re really making some progress. Well done ❤

Aww DeVol kitchens are my favorite!! Their showrooms are candy stores ❤❤❤❤
Großartig ❤
Bitte alle einen 👍🏻und supported diese tollen jungen Leute, bitte weiter so ❤❤❤
Love the coving. So beautiful. Thank you for another lovely video.
when we were remodeling and building new space in our home we bought a compound miter saw to help with the fit and coping angles. Yes - we did have to resort to the hand coping saw a few times. Lessons learned on fitting trim!
Great job on the finish work. Not for the faint of heart.
Yes wanna see it all please really enjoy thes vlogs
Great floor! However, I wouldn’t make it that dark because it’s a large surface; it could make the space feel a bit gloomy.
Love all your content! The more the better!
Gosh I love you guys. So much fun to listen to you both banter😂
The new trim looks great. Nice job.
That coving will be lovely when it's finished. I'm amazed at how well you cut it to fit (not easy) Like everyone else I'm impressed with the plumbers work.

That’s me sorted for the next 22 minutes, I blooming love this channel!!!
It's too dark. All debris will stand out. Unless you have your robot sweeper on everyday. Well done on the coving.
Yes! Showing the design side would also be very welcomed!
Would love to see the design process and meetings! It's so fun following you two on this reno journey
Yes!!!!!!!! Design appointments for the win!!!!!!
17:56 - sometimes you cant get something perfectly perfect. for the gap that is in that corner, i'd just plaster it. no one is going to be looking with a magnifying glass at all your work, but i do like your standard of perfection. keep it up Louis!

Hot water boiler system for heating!!! Love it!! .. and!! .. more more more of the videos -- of everything!! .. thoroughly enjoying this journey!
my motto when installing coving... measure once, cut twice, or maybe, after many cuts throw away and get a new bit
A big yes to watching the design element. Would agree with many of the comments on staining the floor light to start with until you get to the shade you are happy with. X
Yes to design of kitchen
Yes to design footage! Lighter floors is my vote. Darker floors show the dust too much. You are both doing an amazing job 🥰
Terrific progress. I love the solid wood coving which will look elegant once the surfaces are complete. Looking forward to the next episode. ❤
Great progress and much achieved! Anything you want to put in your vlogs is fine by me! Thankyou for sharing! ❤ XXX
