- I've completed my count for the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch this year. There's still time to do it if you haven't yet. If you have, how did your results compare? Over a million birds have been counted so far in 2025. I got the national average for magpies and blackbirds, but one more than average for robins.

3 Robins all at once, eh? Oooohh!!! There's gonna be a scrap! 😆 Well done Emily. I'm down in metropolitan Essex and, regrettably, due to work and other commitments I had no window of opportunity during those 3 days to do the BGBW, but I did do my own personal one just a day early on the Thursday just before the southern edge of Eowyn came through (Friday was quite blustery). The Thursday hour from my kitchen window yielded: 8 House Sparrow; 9 Starling; 4 Blue Tit; 3 Great Tit; 4 Long-Tailed Tit; 1 Robin; 1 Collared Dove; 2 Goldfinch; 2 Magpie; 1 Blackbird; and, wait for it..... 2 Goldcrest!!!! First time I've ever seen them in my garden in 22 years! - heard them briefly once a few years ago. Definitely an hour well spent! 👍🤓👍
Hi there. I have just discovered your channel. I used to live in Wigan with a tiny garden. I now have a medium sized garden garden in South Wales which I am trying to manage on ecological principles. Which is a big change, having been a conventional gardener all my life. I do have a lot of birds coming into my garden, but I live out in the hills surrounded by ancient woodland. I`m retired now so I spend a loy of time just sitting watching them.
That's great to hear that you've decided to use ecological principles on your new garden. What sort of birds do you have? I imagine there are some interesting species around you with the ancient woodland nearby.
@@WildlifeWithEmily Yes, I do, but most tend to stay in the woods and don`t come into the garden. An unusual regular visitor is a grey wagtail, as I live very close to the river. And I was very excited to see bullfinches eating the seedheds and then visiting the birdtable. I think they prefer wild food. I have been documenting my wilding progress on my youtube channel and I`m just making a video about the birdcount and about the RSPB stopping the sale of flat feeders because of the spread of disease. It should come out next monday. I`d value your thoughts.
@ I love the grey wagtail! I've only seen them a couple of times. It sounds like an interesting video you're going to be releasing. If you remind me once it's posted, I'd love to watch it.
Hi Emily, i too have just found your channel. I live in Bristol, have a small to medium suburban garden. Twentyfive species of bird landed in our garden on the 26th of jan for my bird watch - i was amazed! Its a very 'natural' organic ( as far as i know) garden, with up to twelve local foxes passing through daily/nightly. I leave eggs out for them under the native hedge.
Great to have you here. Amazing that you got so many species during your birdwatch! Are they all frequent visitors? I love to hear about all the foxes that visit people's gardens too. I'm actually currently researching for a long video I'll be uploading on foxes, although I've got a couple of other uploads planned before that comes out.
Your garden sounds amazing! I only had 14 species of birds, I`m just making a video about my bird count. I do catch the odd fox on my trail cam, but I never see them.
Hi, I envy you your Welsh garden! Which part are you?
My grandparents were Welsh, and came from Penally. Our holidays in Wales were the best. Thanks re birds, birdwatch.
@@janenorman7246 I`m at the top of the Swansea Valley, on the edge of Y Bannau Brycheiniog, not as far west as Penally.
@mywildwelshgarden-es3fr sounds wonderful!
Hi Emily, it’s a shame that your greenhouse was blown away! I did the bird watch yesterday and submitted the results. 4 Wood Pigeon, 1 Robin, 1 Starling. And it just so happened that whilst I was doing the bird watch I also saw a fox wonder into my garden! Apart from your greenhouse, I hope you didn’t suffer any other damage due to the storm. Looking forward to the next video. Take care. 🙂
That's interesting timing, doese the fox often visit yours or was it a new addition? We have a local one that I think lives in the nearby woods but it's only ever around at about 2am.
@ Well there was a family of them last spring, that lived under a neighbours shed, they would come out at night and play in my garden. It could have been one of those kits and it still lives nearby…. possibly?
@@galaxywhispers1787 How sweet! It could be, or it could be one of the parents again
