Jesus. Mike Myers! This is a fabulous talk. WTF is the greatest podcast ever. Marc is so genuine and he is able to talk about stuff but also give the table to his guest whenever he needs to. Just great radio.
One of the best interviews on wtf, EASY. Mike seems so humble and self doubting yet he is a key player of the SNL all stars, only Spade and Farley shined brighter.
This is exactly what a podcast should be...finding someone you wanted to know about with intimate, interesting, reflective, and thought provoking conversation. Time just flew bye...kudos to Mr. Maron on his podcast. Great interview.
Reveals a depth and understanding of Mike Myers that I had no idea about. Great listen. Entertaining and thought provoking. Luckily this is an instance of knowing more about a person making it better, not worse.
I found that whole "difficult to work with" thing really fascinating. Great example of how ruthless and fucked up the Hollywood industry can be. These producers and money people are funny or creative, they just have a template for what they've decided a movie or a show should be. It's all numbers to them. Even after Mike proved that he was right and they were wrong, they still label him "difficult to work with". Doesn't matter that he made great movies and tons of money, he still had the audacity to suggest that maybe he knows what's funny and they don't. Reminds me of Louie: he went around and felt like he had to cater to these ppl, and the work suffered. As a result he refused to make anything unless he had complete creative control. Any time some executive tried to tamper with his show Louie, he'd just say "well, maybe we should just forget it and not make the show" and they'd back off. The result was an incredible show. It's just kinda tragic to me that movie studio people don't respect the vision of great comedians, but I'm glad guys like Mike are willing to throw their reputations on the line to do good work
I really love and appreciate mike immensely. He’s so sweet! He’s my mentor in a way when it comes to acting and film study. I’m a writer and my family has been involved in the arts for years. It’s a family thing... but I’ve read mikes Canada book amazing. I also read a book that someone from their perspective and how they saw mike Myers. Very awesome book!!! I absolutely adore Austin Powers to death. Mikes slapstick is perfect! I could watch him for hours!! I salute mike Myers!
In the film Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen is pitching the song Bohemian Rhapsody to their label exec. The label exec. says "I just can't see a bunch of teenagers in a car banging their heads to it." The actor. Playing the label exec. was Michael Myers.
Mike blows my mind. This guy is so well read. After listening to this interview If I ran in to Mike on the street I don’t think I would say much. Just a genius.
What are you even saying? He is well liked. One of the best cast members ever on SNL. Marc Maron's podcasts have low views on YT; people listen on his site. Myers is very talented and very humble.
Mike is wonderful, he's this perfect combination of funny, smart and introspective. He's had a tough life but, like a sweet Canadian would never say, it was tough. You are talking about him in the past tense. Mike is lovely, relevant and kind of lived his life backward.
I was at that Chicago comedy show. It was free in grant park. I remember Dana carvey came out dropping f bombs and was pulled to the side by someone or a few people. Apparently you can't come out on stage at a comedy show in a Chicago park throwing f bombs like confetti. He then came back on using the church lady voice to sort of apologize. Planned or not it was interesting.
Lol! I’m a proud 🇨🇦 also! Let’s not forget 1) the Nanaimo bar which originated in BC 2) Butter tarts are quintessentially Canadian. 3) a tourtière is a traditional French-Canadian meat pie.
Jokes aside, this is a great interview. A really strong discourse. Well done at being normal, fellas! The Real is on point here. Definitely messaging this to a couple buddies.
my early childhood was more Kids in the Hall, SCTV and SNL than cartoons, when dad got us posted to a new base, it usually took a couple weeks before we had cable again, so I watched a ton of CBC and CTV, because antenna's which showed all that stuff late at night and I had a little black and white tv in my room. lol I remember first watching Wayne's world in my cousin's rec room when my dad and I went to visit when it first came to block buster.
Loved that. Agreed, personally was one of the best w.t.f.Ive heard.. well done to the Maron does a great job to encourage these disclosures.. coincidentally a Marron is an exotic endangered freshwater blue crayfish.. live only in south west australia
Wow. This was awesomeness. I got a lot of work done while listening. It sounded like Mike was living the life with every phase. Then he pretty much says life began at 48. Mike, I think you have a lot to take away from your interview with Mike. Or maybe you just did. You just havr a different nervous system, if you will. Spend time in Canada
Mike's first wife Robin played an enormous roll in his early career and SNL days. He habitually mentioned her in nearly every talk show appearance in the 90's & she even appears on the Wayne's World book jacket as a co-contributor. Funny how he neglects to say her name here. Not even the tiniest hat-tip to her roll in his craft.
I won't play war games,....I got hooked on Sim City 4,.....you build cities,.....no killing. Computer games came out when I was already too old, maybe I was in my 50s. I missed the whole thing.
Great guest. Really interested in Myers now. Now knowing he's such a strong film enthusiast, I want to watch his inspirations, then rewatch his work. Contextually I feel it might change.
If Mike Myers did a new Austin Powers movie, I came up with the new satires Never Shag Again Mojoraker Tomorrow Never Shags The UK is not Enough Mojo Another Day
1:05:34 I was listening to another WTF interview, where another former SNL cast member (Jim Breuer) told how he learned things the hard way working there lol. One of the headwriters literally took the ideas he wrote from the snl offices server with no guilt whatsoever 😂 I think that was Adam McKay. Protect your material Jim haha
Listened to Norm McDonald before this. What a juxtaposition in personalities. Mike is such a nice guy and decent human being. Really great conversation.
i had to stop watching at about 5:30 even though i grew up just down the street from Mike because he started defining my own life, and i started comparing ;
I get that impression also. @ 1:02:20 he takes credit for writing both Waynes World movies, when in actual fact they were a collaboration with Bonnie and Terry Turner.
@@Humanshieldchorus00 thought my joke might not land. Also, pretty hard not to be egocentric when you're being interviewed about your life's accomplishments and you've actually accomplished a bunch of things. He came off as intelligent but sentimental to me.

Marc Maron does the best interviews of comedians, hands down. My favorite podcast.
No thought is finished, at least in the first 17 minutes of the interview.
Mike blows my mind. This guy is so well read. After listening to this interview If I ran in to Mike on the street I don’t think I would say much. Just a genius.
It would be funny if Marc kept asking him about the movie Halloween

Awesome Bohemian Rhapsody story and I completely understand why he wanted it
Ok i clicked on this for mike myers and i got 7 minutes of mid life crisis idgaf about ur cats goddamit why u gotta lay that on me for
Funny that he says when he started at SNL, he hadn’t seen the show for 7 years, because his vcr would only tape for two hours.

the cat monologue is relatable
…Holy… Dr. Evil’s voice is Myers’ impression of Lorne Michaels
It's actually Dana Carveys impression he took it and put it in his movie. Caused him and Dana to not talk for awhile
Woah. What a profound ending. Powerful stuff.

Mike does the best impression of Dana Carvey’s impersonation of Lorne Michaels, hence Dr Evil. It caused an issue between the two of them for a while
