@@nickharrington6557😅 Truth, why must you sting so
Why do you censor with scouter sounds now?
So basically you can use a joke till it plays out and then can only use it again once enough time has passed that people would want to go back and rewatch that joke again so every five years or so roughly.
every day closer to saying goodbye to DBZA again 😭😞
I know... Cant these guys just livestream nonstop 24/7 re re re reactions??? Thats all we ask for!
😢plz keep it coming
The buu bits tho😭
Stoppp 😭 lol i didn’t think of it like that till now I’ve been enjoying this too much
Tho on the bright side more hfil?
For anyone wondering, all that footage of the rioting that happened after Mr. Satan "died" was not from this arc. It was originally footage from the King Piccolo arc of OG Dragon Ball; specifically, it was after King Piccolo overthrew the world government and released every criminal onto the streets.
I thought it was from the fusion reborn movie
And I thought it was from the Great Saiyaman episodes.
@chaoticignorant483 either way the art style doesn't lookalike og Dragon Ball
@@nomadthetrucker6489nah you’d be able to tell if it was the earth segments of fusion reborn had like a different animation style (like thicker outlines and such)
I thought it was just the team doing some extra good work on making custom art for shit going into overdrive.
The LazyTown “We Are Number One” remix works even better when you remember that Goku’s workout music is “Cooking by the Book” from the same show.
I always hoped “you are a pirate” from Lazy Town would have shown up in the Bojack movie.
You gotta do the cooking by the book, you know you can't be lazy
I thought the “chickadee china the Chinese chicken” line was because Cell had to wait “One Week”. Crazy if that was just a coincidence.
Huh, I figured it was because Taka is Canadian and would know Barenaked Ladies.

@@Jerga27I had the same thought
I thought it was a call back to Nappa using rymes during his fights. Patty cake king that he is.
Ah BNL. I love that band
I honestly thought it was a reference to the abridgimon special lol

I don't know why by "Makan-" "Ko-" "Sa-" "CANNON!" has always been one of my favourite bits
It's the crescendo of the music to a complete cut out when Cell says "cannon" that does it for me.
I think the one that yells canon is the one that’s mostly made up of Piccolo x3
That's a perfectly reasonable explanation
I love how Taka pointed out how B.S. the zenkai boost is and Kaiser immediately went into full "well ackchyually" mode.

Trunks not screaming his attack is so much in character. He's so fed up with his group insanity that he just want to get over with things quickly lmao.
I mean, there was the "Spirit Sword!" attack in the Super shorts, but he was also doing a Gundam parody there, so whether it was in character is questionable
More like he grew up in a bleaker world most attacks are called because they are iconic sportsmanship techniques or being ego busting things madmen say while enjoying blowing someone up and it's expected and cultivated in the z warriors fights
Trunks comes from a terminator time line he has no time for that goofy shit, as jrillin say we do talk a lot and let the bad guy power up
It doesn't matter, his attack on Frieza is still one of the most badass and iconic moments in all of Dragon Ball
FUTURE KICK
Gohan: “..uh huh uh huh..when are they gonna start..?”
Honestly gohan’s biggest flex in the series as a whole
Goku and Cell having sexual tension between them while fighting is comedically genius, perfect, and my favorite thing ever.
Seconded. Also. Perfect?????👀 Hmmm???? I see your game, you maverick renegade
I can’t even think of a better way to portray Cell. These guys did an amazing job developing cells character
@@piyei couldn't agree more.
12:22 In the manga, when Nail is fighting Freeza and regenerates, the latter notes that his power level dropped. So while Cell might be getting a bit of a boost from Zenkai, the need to regenerate limbs and such will probably offset that.
That's likely a stamina related issue. Namekian regeneration is always shown to be draining and energy intensive for them and when you have a low (relatively speaking) power level to begin with plus no chance to rest in a fight against a superior opponent? Yeah I can see power level dropping when having to do it.
Contrast something like when Piccolo first encountered Cell where Cell was still outmatched and Piccolo basically kept Cell talking for a while before actually regenerating or, in this case, Cell potentially playing around with his food by using the weaker fighters as cooldown times between any fights where he has to exert real effort for his regenerations and the power level drop likely wouldn't apply. And that's without factoring that Cell's just built different.
I mean it's probably more stamina as the other guy said but considering the androids powering him up, Saiyan bs boosts, friezas hardiness maybe the Regen would just not be as taxing on cell
I mean, it's still taxing on Cell whenever he does it outside of the perfect factory reset he gets from his core. It feels more like the core is a failsafe mechanism specifically built to regenerate him at maximum potential, and it's on top of that the Zenkai boost which Gero probably did not even know about triggers.
Orange Hillbily has to be my favorite way of describing Goku to this day
Just like "Crack head" sums up Luffy "Orange Hillbilly" fuckin fits Goku to a T. Lol
It's very accurate. He is an orange hillbilly. 🧡
I've used orange hillbilly to describe goku ever since the episode was uploaded. It's just perfect. Lol
Because that's exactly what Goku is! He lives out in the mountains away from ALL civilization and wears orange a lot. Seriously, after he married Chi Chi, he had not talked with his BEST FRIENDS FOR 5 YEARS. They didn't even know he had a kid until he decided to drop by and introduce him with no heads-up.
@@wingedbluj1674 not to mention he is a farmer in super
I loved when you pointed out that Goku mostly steals attacks because for years I brought that up for why I think Goku outstrips Vegeta. Insomuch that Vegeta is constantly trying to reinvent the wheel while Goku is just seeing what works for other people and makes it his own. Goku never lost that "student" mentality so he never stops learning and therefore growing.
If they teach him the moves then he's not stealing the technique. Kaio-ken and Spirit Bomb were not stolen.
@@specialnewb9821huh fair

-Goku did the after Image technique after seeing Famed Martial Artist Jackie Chun perform it.
-Goku wasn't taught the Solar Flare by Tenshinhan. He saw him do it and copied it. In fact he uses it AGAINST him in the 23rd world tournament.

Yes, blowing up the bug planet a second time as a callback to season one absolutely killed me the first time!
Made even better by the ironic fact that it was blown up by another bug.
And it killed the bugs a second time
I always liked the "We are Perfect Cell" sequence, because not only was it a meme and great tribute at the time, but there was precedent for them using a song from Lazy Town because Goku listened to Lazy Town music on the way to Namek.
It just adds to their similarities.
Goku invented one technique: the Janken-fist, basically throwing a punch and sometimes subbing the punch out for a poke in the eyes. He stopped using it maybe a third of the way through Dragon Ball.
Every other technique he’s ever used he borrowed from somewhere else.
Actually its said in dragon ball that he learned that from grandpa gohan
As the other pointed out. That was Grandpa Gohan's move.
Goku maybe came up with dragon fist? But that's not main timeline canon.
He also invented Monkey Fist to fight off Jackie Chun's Drunken Fist
I still think it’s hilarious that I discovered DBZA, LITERALLY a couple weeks after episode 59 came out, so I started watching just as the year long wait started
Be easy on yourself, i discovered them litterally 4 months ago.
But then again, English isn't my native language so....
Nah. You're right SHAME ON YOU FILTHY HEATHEN.
Kinda similar, I watched when it first came out but kinda dropped off and only had seen a few episodes. Few years later my buddy is like ever seen this, showed us the first episode, and everything was just better than I remembered, guess I just was less clever or honed in on great comedy when I was younger I dunno but then I became obsessed and they yeah I think had just done 58 maybe. Glad I'm here now tho.

My headcanon is that Taka is still secretly screwing all these endings up, it's just that Nies's editing has reached godlike levels and they can now fix it in post.
that is indeed godlike if true, given that kaiser isn't editing these 😊👍
@@jessicest Edit: just seen a helpful comment from editor Nies!
It's amazing what you can fix with editing.
Ha. They should do that. Just have Taka's part of the outtro be made out of clips.
One thing I love about Taka's performance as Cell (and really his performances in general) is that it is so distinct from his actual voice, sometimes I can't even believe he's doing it. As wonderful and Kaiser and Lani's acting is, I think you can still hear them in their voices, but with Taka, it really is like a completely different person. If I didn't know that the same person voiced Nappa, Guru, and Cell, I would literally never guess that, and I think that's something he should be really really proud of.
something I just realized: outside of movies, the first time Krillen EVER met Shenron in person was after Cell was killed
Wouldn't he have seen/met Shenron after he was brought back to life in OG Dragonball? Hold on, gonna fact check myself.
...
Yep, chapter 165, both Krillin's body and the Dragonballs were practically side by side at Kame House when Shenron revived Krillin, Roshi, and Chiaotzu... Lmfao, I'm looking at the page now, and Krillin literally woke up to the sight of a huge magic dragon staring straight down at him... MENACINGLY!
Hm... but now that I think about it, I suppose he didn't exactly "meet" Shenron at that point, merely saw him... I guess it really depends on whether one believes that meeting someone requires an exchange of dialogue... Anyways, I'm getting way too hung up on semantics, so I'm just gonna stop thinking about it. Lol.

10:30 I really hope that Kaiser "Scott" Neko knows that Dragon Quest does indeed have mobs like the Whackanape, which is a purple ape in official Toriyama style. The "Grape Ape" exists!
Yoooo that's perfect omg
I like how you wrote his name. Implying that Scott is his nickname
Hearing about a purple Oozaru makes me want to see Grape Ape from the Hanna-Barbera cartoons in Saiyan armor.
I love the fact that Goku gives all of his friends “a couple minutes.”
Can't express just how funny "THAT MAKES SENSE!" was the first time I heard it haha
20:33 Piccolo still not being able to pronounce his attack and yelling THAT ONE is my favorite bit of this episode 😂
Surfshark: All you gotta do is read this 60 second ad script.
TFS: Makes a goddamn dramatic short film.

In a world with super-high tech flying cars and all that, Mr. Satan goes with mirrors, magnets, and being lifted by cranes as his explanations for everything going on. I love that.
How quickly people in universe forget the flying nimbus saving Goku from a ring out in his *first* World Martial Arts Tournament. 😂
When I played through Kakarot with minimal fights (hard mode, just story battles, no side missions, no healing during fights, no meals) I really struggled with the Dabura fight in the Trunks DLC, and when I finally finished it I yelled "GET OUT OF MY FUCKING TIMELINE" Still my favorite Trunks line and perfectly read by Kaiser

Gonna be rough when they give us episode 59 next week, then make us wait a year for commentary on episode 60.
"How many Gokus have you beaten?"
Not only did Vegeta beat Goku into the hospital, but Tien won that fight because Goku got it by a truck.
So, Tien is losing to both Vegeta and Truck-Kun.
Dont insulto my boy tien. That was the rules of their matchup., not his fault.
Tien won by his criteria and Vegeta lost by his criteria and that's exactly the difference between them in a nutshell
Vegeta is incredibly strong and frequently has the strength edge on Goku, but he fights to dominate. The only time he doesn't is Namek, which is by far Vegeta's best showing tactically outside of Zarbon.
Tien is almost always weaker than Goku but sets a realistic goal for himself and doesn't lose sight of that. Win or lose, he's secure in who he is and does not require validation.
Vegeta beat Goku to a pulp, but Vegeta was the one who fled... after Goku let him go.
Ultimately, Goku made a full recovery, but Vegeta's pride was left shattered.
Till this day that was the worst beatings Goku has ever taken people seem to forget or most people started watching during the Freeza saga
@Micisme86 he took worse from piccolo and radditz.
Plus, vegeta had to go great ape, which definately is not great for equality. But Tien is on the record of beating goku. 1 v 1.
Vegeta being 'crazy' gives so much more to the Buu bits where Goku calls from king kai and he goes "Oh God the voices are back"
I love the idea of Cell being in HFIL for 1000 years and he’s finally like “ya know what I think I’m ready to move on, and be reborn”
And king Yemma is like yeaaaah unfortunately you just got an entire planet’s worth of murder on your record

I find that the best running jokes are the ones that change with every appearance.
The “dodge” joke isn’t just piccolo yelling “dodge”. There is the Pavlov version, the one where he just looks at Gohan after Gero complains about dodging being easy, and 16 distracting 17, and many more variations of it.
I hope we get some commentary on the Buu Bits as well...even if it prolongs having to say goodbye to DBZA just a little longer 😢
Again, I have to give credit here when it comes to finishing a joke: The Ghost Nappa/Ghost Vegeta bit in the Buu Bits was absolutely perfect!
The citizens of Satan City just taking and believing Mr.Satan’s claims as to what’s happening is my favorite thing this episode 😂
Honestly, ever since November of 2015, it's been one of the most believable things in the entire series...
‘Pragmatism at its finest, Mr Satan!’ is one of my personal favorites.
‘Pragmatism at its finest, Mr Satan!’ is one of my personal favorites.
I like to think that in Trunks' timeline it's his Heat Dome Attack that destroys the second bug planet
Well, somebody has to do it.
Because ew.
Y'know when you say that Cell is excited about the day of the tournament finally being there, does that mean that Cell would have been humming Goku's "Fighting Day" song to himself?
Most definitely, at the same time Goku did
🎶Got the green tile fixed a reporter died gonna punch Goku and shatter his pride do do do do today is fightin’ day🎶
In all fairness, "Get out of my fucking timeline" is one hell of a finishing move
The bit with King Kai's "My fucking name is in it..." about the Kaioken was my favorite of the episode, though a LOT of it is so good.
Having been a fan of many different abridged series to try and fill the gap after TFS tapped out I can say with 100% certainty that even to this DAY Kaiser's editing and audio skills are so far ahead of the curb in terms of quality and consistency it's nuts. I cannot praise him enough for how much he raised the bar in terms of quality in these series.
I dont know i think something witty is up there
He is so skilled at editing that he's been accused by redditors for raising the bar too high, thus making entry level Abridging impossible and cannabalizing the genre as a whole. I think that's a gross oversimplification of the downfall of Abridging, sure, but damn does it say a lot about how nuts Kaiser's editing is. Shifting entire internet landscapes.
This has one of my most used “catch phrases” which is “that makes sense” but my most frequently used one and that’s krillin saying… “neat”
I'm so glad you guys pointed out that at the end of their first fight, Goku is unable to move at all, while Vegeta still could. Victory for Vegeta!
Also, Vegeta expended more energy changing forms.
I love the fact that you all made cell so nice to yamcha just because
I think the biggiest character arc right now is taka perfecting his line, "That we're doing." Proud of you man.
Bruh. They don’t like taka. Why are they so awkward around him and hardly ever look at him. Honestly it’s just weird and awkward to watch.
Look at the body language. And watch the hands at 24:05
The hands from 23:00
I think the fact the three of you were writing with equal opportunity to pitch ideas and you mostly went with majority decision is what helps a joke not out stay it’s welcome or go for too long. I don’t know if that arrangement for the writing team is a common thing, but it worked so well for DBZA and is one of the reasons it stands out so much in the abridging sphere.
Honestly, I had no idea that was where the script was cut. It just struck me as the punchline to the joke and a humorous place to end. I’ve always giggled at Cell’s “ow!”
18:49 Apparently Cell's version of the multi-form technique doesn't halve his power which just raises a bunch of questions like: Did cell purposely play around with goku?, Is goku just that strong to fight 4 cells at full power?, etc.
I can't remember exact wording, but I remember Goku saying something along the lines of he could tell Cell was only using half his power fighting Goku. Which is why he forfeited, because he knew Cell still had so much power while Goku was at his max. So yeah, the multiform technique really was him just flexing and toying with Goku.
it was "filler" in that it wasn't in the manga, but I could see cell being 4x stronger than goku so it didn't diminish his suppressed power.
If there's one thing that DBZA and this commentary has done is remind me of how _good_ Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z is! I especially love the way they write Tien and Cell and how much love they have for the show. But damn, that Yamcha bashing with the ring out bit...
I actually read a fic on Ao3 where Cell fights Yamcha and it was _so good_ because you get to see all of the old techniques brought back in a believable way! I think it's called *"Cell vs. The Super Human".* Reading it reminded me of how great DBZA is and how much I miss it. I can't wait for more of the _HFIL_ series to come out!
That Yamcha ring out joke was terrible, Tien is implying Yamcha’s existence is plain useless and everytiing about him sucks.
Ah, that's kinda why I fell into reading fanfiction in the first place. Admittedly, DBZA is fanfiction too. But reading stories on Archive of Our Own that aren't limited by the animation is pretty cool.
Also Tien is nicer to Yamcha in that story I mentioned. Just a bonus.
Would you be able to provide a link?
Some people interpret gohan thinking cell and goku not being serious as gohan being stronger than them already, what I interpret it as, is gohan is close but still a bit weaker than them, but his whole life he's looked up to his dad as the pinnacle of power, so his expectation is goku to be way above him
I dont know if this was also a part of "Cells #1" theme, but i love how its a callback to Goku picking bake a cake for his training theme to Namek
11:26 Just to put Goku's love of fighting into perspective, Goku and Chichi's first date was a sparring match.
No joke, Goku had no idea what a date was, so when he asked Chichi, she said it's doing something you love and sharing it with the person you love. In response to this, Goku immediately threw a right hook. It was... adorable, actually. Mostly because, at that time, Chichi could keep up with him.
Take definitely stepped up his game for perfect cell. He was always amazing but his pride in that characters voice definitely shows
This series has been great. The new perspectives you give has made it like watching DBZA for the first time again. I'm not ready to say goodbye again 😢
The ad intro is actually insane. Lol
28:05 I love that it’s pretty much canon to the series now that Ghost Nappa was always just a figment in Vegeta’s head and he was just crazy the entire time! 😂
Love that they had Cell singing along to One Week by Barenaked Ladies when fighting Goku. That song is pure 90s and loved it growing up. Also find it funny that Takahata voices who voices Cell is also from Canada like the band Barenaked Ladies

I like how they KINDA brought back the “Vegeta is just crazy” idea for Buu Bits with “oh no, the voices are back”
I mean, Goku's "date" with Chi Chi involved him turning it into a fight by the lake back in Dragonball's Red Ribbon arc. So yeah, fights absolutely are his love language

9:26 also just wanna point this out, missed opportunity for Vegeta to get one W here by asking “how many Nappas have you beaten Tri-clops?”
His rage has blinded him!
Tien: And how many tournaments have you won?
Vegeta: I dunno, how many PLANETS have you blown up?
Tien: None, how many *Gokus* have you beaten?
Vegeta: ...How many _Chiaotzus_ have you lost...?
It's weird to think Mr. Satan is the tallest human in the series, considering how he gets drawn past the Cell Saga. He's taller than every single Z-fighter other than Piccolo!
Every episode is extremely quotable but I think this is probably the one I quote the most
I would argue that the Kaioken is Goku’s technique because King Kai admits that he was never able to do it himself. It’s like saying the person that invented the car never actually built a car.
I mean, there's also the fact that most of Goku's Arsenal was TAUGHT to him, not necessarily stolen
@@r0deiirc, he wasn’t formally taught the kamehameha. He just saw master roshi do it and copied it.

2:33 Lani reminded me of the fact that between Dragon Ball and Z, the only reoccuring characters that never cannonically died in the series were Mr. Satan and Supreme Kai (though that's debatable as Kaioshin does cease to exist when he fuses with Kibito)
P.S. didn't count everyone born after buu.
I’m honestly sad we’re getting close to the end… again. DBZA has been such a huge part of my life growing up and now I feel like I’m reliving it with the guys as an adult but now we’re going to end soon and it makes me genuinely sad
I like to put these on in the background while at work, and I have to say, that single note from the Ultra Instinct theme at 10:33 gets me EVERY. TIME.
The best "power levels are bullshit" scene is mr. Satan getting slapped into a mountain and surviving.
Remember, he has _no_ Ki control at all.
Cell, whos power level is allegedly in the millions, _slapped_ him into a mountain.
Meanwhile, Krillin did have some minor measure of Ki control, and Tamborine killed him in one shot.
I won't lie, every time Taka gets it right its like i want to pat a puppy on the head
Hey Guys I have always loved the content going all the way back to the early days of DBZA when I was in high school. I don’t know if you all will see this or want to do it but it would be great if at the end of this thing that your doing you all do an episode including the buu bits and maybe a small mailbag answer some questions now that we’ve gotten to see the director commentary on the series. Either way thank you all for entertaining us over the years and wish you all nothing but the best! ❤
9:50 To be fair about their first fight. Even though Vegeta "beat" Goku, he was so injured that Krillin was almost about to kill him. It was only due to Goku's mercy that he survived and that must have hurt worse than losing to him. During the Buu saga, the only reason Vegeta won was because Goku didn't use SS3.
Bruh, Taka's Perfect Cell voice is so incredible, it accompanies me through life. He should he proud
