Lani is infuriated that Lani's (past life's) rampage has been glossed over in the wake of Cell's reveal, to which Lani mocks Lani for being lost and forgotten to time. Then Lani is outraged that Lani's own attack is also seen as nothing in comparison, and Lani throws Lani's words right back at Lani. Lani threatens Lani with a repeat of their last fight, but Lani retorts that Lani and Lani have never fought; Lani was actually killed by Lani's dumbass friend. Lani remebers and remarks how weird it is that Lani and Lani have never fought, and asks Lani if Lani also thinks it's weird. Lani agrees, then warns Lani to never call Lani "black man" again. Lani can only wonder what *IS* Lani.
Okay I almost had a stroke trying to read this until I remembered "oh right all of them are voiced by the same person."
It's funny, because I was thinking this in my head during the whole scene lol

I guess this explains why Hit charged Jiren right after Goku finished his first bout of UI. He was jealous. Not only is Goku enjoying fighting someone more than he enjoyed fighting Hit, this new fighter also helped him achieve a form that most deities struggle to maintain. Hit felt like HE should have been the one to force Goku into unlocking it.

The big issue is we have time skips of "X years pass" multiple times. But aside from the Saiyan saga skip which was explicitly a year, how rounded are the others? Two years and 11 months? Three years and 10 days?
Goku marries Chichi. Five years pass.
Gohan is 4. Not exactly 4, but 4 and some months. Spend 1 year training for Saiyans.
Gohan is 5. Trip to Namek, wait 4 months for Dragonballs to recharge only to learn Goku didn't die. Goku is in space for 1 year.
Gohan is 6. Trunks arrives, says androids are coming, Train for three years.
Gohan is 9. Go into room of time for one year.
Gohan is 10. Gohan has a filler (not in the manga) birthday party during the off week.
Gohan is 11.
Seven years pass and Gohan goes to high school.
Gohan is... 16? That doesn't work at all, even if he was 10 during cell.. He has to be at least 17 . But his birth year is thrown off by the year in the chamber...?
With *exact* dates he might be slightly under 11 or slightly over but the anime gave him a birthday so...

Think about it:
He's 4 when Raditz appears as stated in the source material.
When Vegeta and Nappa appears he's 5 because of the 1 year time skip.
He's 6 when Future Trunks arrives since Goku was away for a year and a half.
Then we have the 3 year time skip for the arrival of the androids, which makes him being 9 years old.
And he didn't spent a full year in the chamber, so he's still 9 physically.
The Buu saga only happens 7 years later, which makes Gohan 16 at the time. And the manga states that's how old he is.
So yeah, both are wrong in this case

After Freezas defeat another year passes making him 6 then the three years of training making him 9. Then one year in the Room of Spirit and Time makes him 10 then 6 years pass making him 16

I want to say something about this moment. Vegeta can fly. Vegeta's not quite dumb enough to FORGET he can fly (unlike Nappa), and there's a ki bubble around him while he plummets.
So Popo threw him SO HARD that Vegeta couldn't "fly up" with enough strength to prevent himself cratering.
"...Did our heart just skip a beat?" "That is precious!" is quite possibly my favorite Nail and Kami moment. Love this ep

The sasuke retrieval arc would've been the best setting for a sasuke v neji fight. Like have sasuke lose to neji, solidifying his need to get more power through orochimaru. Or have him use everything he had to beat neji who has an "inferior" dojutsu.
Considering how they view themselves, you'd think it would've been a huge thing for both of them being the prodigal son of each clan (obviously Sasuke is kind of the de facto only choice but still would've been regardless) and how much they think of themselves as superior to others as a result of that level of potential.

I fully believe Mr. Popo is capable of defying physics enough to either punch or throw Vegeta from where they were standing, sending him across the lookout, and then curving straight down as he plummets toward the earth.
I love Chi-Chi's concern for the time chamber having the same energy as a dad taking his toddler on a fishing trip without a life jacket without the mom knowing.
You know, speaking of Gohan, in the original anime, this one filler week has some of my favorite episodes. One of them includes Gohan's encounter with Mercenary Tao. It is shown that Gohan is a gentle soul who does his best to avoid fighting, but will still do it to protect others. Then there was the episode about Gohan's childhood, where he casually flies through a tree as a baby. This proves that he has incredible hidden power, something we've known since the beginning, but also that Goku remembers it. Thanks to these episodes, Gohan's transformation doesn't come out of nowhere, at least that's what I think the writing was aiming at.
Something I find funniest with Picolo in the Time Chamber is if you do the math then 3 days in the chamber is 1 minute outside. So he literally slammed the door and the 1 minute later opened it and said "I'm out"
If I’m doing my math right, it comes out to 12 minutes.
1year/24= approximately 15 days (every hour, 15 days pass)
(1year/24)/60= approximately 6 hours (every minute, 6 hours pass)
((1year/24)/60)*12= approximately 72 hours (every 12 minutes, 72 hours (3 days) passes)

I love how the series progressively changed from them cringing at jokes and having to explain what went through their minds to just having a great time and laughing at their own jokes while watching. I love this.
I really love the way Goku goes, 'I'll go check' and just teleports to Cell
When Vegeta pushes Mister Popo's button, I love the blink-and-you-miss-it detail as he zooms past Korin that he's in Super Saiyan form. As the three of them say, that confirms this wasn't a "pecking order" style sucker punch, it was a deliberate action that Vegeta tried and failed to resist.
He's not in Ssj form. His hair is black. Go through it frame by frame using the < & > keys on your keyboard(if you're using one) and you'll see what I mean.

He's got a bubble of Ki around him like he's trying to stop himself but failing miserably.
Fun fact: In the latest Dragon Ball Super arc, Frieza spent the equivalent of ten years inside of a Hyperbolic Time Chamber after discovering one on one of his conquered planets. In his appearance afterwards, he seems oddly mellowed out. Maybe he went so crazy from being in the chamber solo for 10 years that he just chilled out a bit lmao
The more cool and calculated Frieza gets the scarier he gets. Crazed Frieza makes mistakes.
Frieza has been humbled from getting his shit kicked in and realizing how much the power scale goes beyond him in the Frieza saga
Clearly he went mad but got bored with that and went sane. Very sane!
You know its kind of a subtle display of respect Vegeta does for piccolo by just assuming he was the one that killed him instead of nappa. Hes basically one of the few fighters Vegeta takes seriously

To be fair (regarding Chi-Chi's grunting) she's not human. Her father is the Ox King who was originally considered to be a type of demon. We know nothing about her mom. So at most she half human. This is might be why Gohan is so much stronger than Trunks.
Ox King is a demon in Journey to the West but I don't believe it's ever stated Ox King in Dragon Ball is anything but a human.

Journey to the West Ox King is 100% a Demon though, so I can see it kinda going either way

I love the dichotomy between goku and gohan going in the time chamber compared to trunks and vegeta. Especially how since vegeta never guided trunks or trained with him, even though trunks trained for 1 year he never learned the drawbacks of grade 3 and suffered for that unlike gohan who was taught by goku.
7:35 This basically actually played out in Super at the end of the Tournament of Power arc. Goku and Frieza fighting together and Vegeta looking on from the side being absolutely distressed about Goku leaving him.
It was more that he could barely fathom the idea of Goku fighting in perfect sync with FRIEZA of all people

Even though Gohan had foreshadowing for how strong he was throughout the series, the Cell Games focused on every character BUT Gohan so it's kind of annoying that the climax of the arc was in a semi random catalyst with 16 who he never interacted with prior.
You know that is true so if you aren't a fan of Gohan you are just sitting there going, "wait he's gonna beat Cell...he can't be that strong can." Nut when Super Sayian 2 happens it does help the whole out of left field call.

it was less about 16 and more about the fact that a robot was expressing the same admiration and care for plants and wildlife that gohan does before immediately being stomped on by cell, it was the last straw rather than the only trigger for his ssj2 anyway, he'd been getting beaten down for ages before this and then cell beat up all his friends at once

Which is why I like the idea proposed by MistareFusion that 16 should have been a modified or rebuilt version of 8, which gives him a direct connection to Goku and might justify why he turns good. He wasn't even supposed to be Gevo back then so it could work instead of creating a new android.

Gohan may not have spent a whole year in the chamber, but you know what he DID do? He spent a month traveling faster than lightspeed in a spaceship to Namek. The time dilation could make up the difference.
All that would do is make him younger than everyone else though. 12 mins for him coulda been a week for those not on the ship
Nail and Kami's little response to Gohan's clothes question is one of my favorite moments in the series. So dang cute. And yet funny!

I really love the character development these last few episodes as Taka finally learns the lines. It really shows his growth as not just an actor but as a person as we all know it couldn't have been easy for him but his dedication and persistence has finally paid off.
Popo’s design is a lot like Homer strangling Bart (even though I believe they have now phased that out of the show) if it were made today it wouldn’t be allowed, but because it was okay when it was made, it got to stay and nobody questions it
