🇹🇭 Thailand’s Overnight Train From Bangkok To Koh Samui (Transforming From Seat To Bunk Bed)

  • We are back in Thailand and we are taking the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Koh Samui. Unfortunately, it doesn't go all the way to Koh Samui so we will be making a stop in Surat Thani, hop on a bus to the pier, and take the ferry back to our favourite place in Thailand. It's not the quickest way but it is the cheapest and the most scenic way to travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui!

My wife and I did the same trip in 2010,departing from the old station aboard the old train. Our journey took 5 hours longer, because of flooding, but we didn't mind because we were on holiday and alway felt safe! We stayed for 15 days on Koh Samui Island... I highly recommend this trip.

I love travelling by train. I took the local train from sungai kolok to hatyai just last month. I had wanted to take the train up to surat thani as well, but the journey would've taken a huge chunk out of our vacation time. Maybe next time. The Thai sleeper train looks better than our Msian one that runs on the east coast

I also appreciate your "matured" attitude toward the people and places you visit. You two are just so adorable and funny. I remember 15 years ago I took overnight 2nd class sleeper train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. It was OK but sleeping on upper bunker was a little hassle when I needed to come down due to nature call. BTW, the reason to ban alcohol was a tragic story about 2 decades ago when a temporary train employee got drunk and came to a passenger sleep compartment and raped a girl, then dumped her out of the train to death. If my memory is still good, he was sentenced to death. Since then alcohol was banned on the train.

I've done this trip a few times from the old train station. It's really nice and I always booked a private cabin. I find it difficult to get to the new station so I'm happy to pay the high cost of Bangkok air (there are never any discounts) when I go to Samui for a few weeks each year. Years ago, I did the night train to Chang Mai - when they could sell alcohol - disco carriage with lights and 80s music. Beds on the train are really comfy - staff are always good.

I ended up getting a suite to myself for 1600 baht. That decision lead me to call Koh Samui home! Welcome back! My girlfriend thought she saw you guys at the coffee shop next to her restaurant. lol
Did your train actually arrive on time?! I'd recommend adding at least a couple hours typically to their estimated arrival time.

    • @FloraandNote
      @FloraandNote  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes it’s the official State Rail website:
      www.railway.co.th/Home/Index
You can choose English in the upper right drop down bar.

    Hi again guys.
Can you help? How were you able to get drone footage in an authorisation area?
There is no way I could get my Dji drone to fly there, I even have trouble with it anywhere airport side of the hills.
I did get it to fly one time at restricted distance etc, but that no longer seems possible with latest update.
I realise this is a private conversation btw 😊

That's awesome! I think the cheapest way is probably to take a shared van... once you come out from the ferry, there will be people helping you arrange transport.

Hi, I’m going over to Hua Hin from Bangkok. I’m wondering if it’s possible to buy the tickets online through the railway website? Or do I have to be buy it from the counters there?

    • @FloraandNote

How does the train compare to the bus. I have taken the bus many times. Grosses thing happened to me on the bus. They brought us little plastic cups of water which was fine til they came and picked up the plastic cup and realized they were saving them for the next group. hahaha One tip always keep your ticket handy. I got on the bus and showed them my ticket, thinking I was good shoved my ticket in the backpack, about halfway they asked to see everyone's ticket again. It was late the bus was packed. I could not find it. They made me pay again.

We saw that you pre-purchased the train tickets on your phone, but did you also pay for the bus and boat or pay a ticket at the bus station/pier? Great video! 🤙

We just showed up at Pantip Travel (in Surat Thani town) to buy the ticket combo (bus + ferry) on the spot. You could prebook them online if you're going on the weekend or on a public holiday.
