I fix onion casserole, with cut up cabbage, slice onions and put on top... Mix one cup of mayo and a can of cream of chicken soup...spread evenly over the top and add one crushed sleeve of Ritz crackers and bake at 350* for about 45 min to 1 hr. When I thought about the mayo 🤯 but with the cream of chicken soup, and the taste of that with the cabbage and onions is absolutely awesome! Just make the cabbage into small pieces so it will get soft! 😊😊 Yum! Now I'm hungry again for onion casserole! 😋
As someone from central KY, let me say that I am so proud that you have these instructional and entertaining videos without trying to portray yourself as hillbilly, folksy, stereotypical Kentuckians but as real sincere people. Also, congratulations on the cookbook. It’s on my amazon wish list for Christmas. ❤
You're completely right. So many TH-camrs try to put on a show and act like some character. You can tell that Tom and Melissa are just being themselves without a bunch of theatrics. Plus the way they clearly show all the ingredients all lined up and how clear and concise they are every step of the way. No need to come to the comments and ask questions for details that were left out. This has become one of my favorite channels for cooking.
I have honestly never thought of people from Kentucky being hillbillies. I love your accents and friendliness! Being originally from up North, when I think of Kentucky I think of beautiful bluegrass, rolling hills, the Kentucky Derby, GREAT bourbon and really friendly warm people. But I agree with you that these videos are lovely. His penchant for teaching and calm, patient voice is wonderful, not to mention the recipes are amazing!
I missed your video last night. I was glued to my phone watching Ryan Hall weather. My sister is in Sebastian and there was tornado warning after tornado warning. I’ve talked with her this morning and they are fine. They haven’t been out to see any damage yet. I babying my headache right now and watching your video will definitely help keep my mind off of Florida. This casserole sounds wonderful. I love onions, cooked and raw. Thank you for a great recipe. I’m counting my blessings and my friends are one of my many blessings. I want to include you and Melissa as my friends. God bless… ❤
We appreciate that, Vickie! It’s encouraging words like yours that helps us enjoy making the videos and sharing them. We do appreciate you being a part of our channel.
Thanks for this one!! For our entire lives, my brother and I have LOVED eating sautéed onions and/or bell peppers. Our Daddy got this started when we were small kids. Whether he was making spaghetti sauce, pot roast, or steak gravy, the luscious smell of sautéed onions would bring us running to the kitchen. He’d usually have to sauté at least twice what was required for his dish, so that my brother and I could each have a little Tupperware bowl filled with sautéed vegetables. Therefore, I have NO DOUBT that this is a scrumptious recipe!! Blessings!!
Congratulations on your cookbook! I will receive mine next week! So excited. I love watching you and Melissa, you both make my day. I can’t wait to see what you’re cooking next. You have made cooking more fun for me.
Tom! You forgot the best ingredient - BUTTER! I am the only onion lover in my family, so I can' t make this recipe for just me...but it sure does look yummy!
LOL! I thought the same thing, but then I went back and saw that he sautéed the onions in butter. I was like "YES!, the butter is in it!" I also wanted to make a smaller portion of the casserole for myself as I'm going to be the only one to enjoy this. It's hard to cook smaller portions, but for this recipe, I'm definitely going to give it a try. 😊
I must make this. I absolutely love onions. Thanks again. I told my husband, Gary, to get ready!!! Y’all are the best. Congratulations on your 200,000 subscribers btw. So glad when I subscribed. Faithful watcher.
I am from Georgia and we have lots of onions. Vidalia is mostly home to them but actually they are grown in my area at the Florida/Alabama line. You have to have them tested and certified in order to use the name. ❤
I'm in New Mexico now. They only sell fresh Vidalia onions @ one local grocers here during a short season in late spring/early June (& mind you, that few weeks window timeframe isn't even every year). Love Vidalia onions so I frequently buy canned goods containing them just to enjoy them. Trivia questionfor fun: You know onions are on the top of the list of cancer reducing foods?
I have to say there are onion lovers here in Ohio. . We cannot get enough onions ! These might get near to enough. I'll make this for my friend. She will love it.

By the way my Sister is dying to get your cookbook and was disappointed that it was unavailable but I told her what you said about checking everyday. Really enjoy watching your videos. @@BeckyJean I love my crockpots! Have several. I've even made bread and cake in them. Make soups, casseroles, lots of yummy stuff. lol They're my ole standby, and I use them often.

Texas has an onion that tastes a lot line Vidalia’s - called the Texas 1015’s because they’re planted every year on October 15th. We love both but both are difficult to find! So if we can find a good sweet onion we just buy it! Mi’m sure any of these would work.
Hi guys Thank you for sharing Looks delicious I have seen it made with another cheese but I haven't tried it yet Thank you for sharing your table with us
I spent a lot of time last autumn experimenting with onion side dishes like this, or onion custard, onion pudding, Tennessee onions, etc. They’re a great option for potluck or a shared holiday meal: goes with everything, everyone likes them, and you’re never duplicating someone else’s efforts. I will say, if you do have a lot of liquid after cooking down the onions, just pull out the onions when they’re cooked, then reduce it a lot, then add it to the dish: all that butter and essence of onion is pure condensed flavor!
I fix onion casserole, with cut up cabbage, slice onions and put on top... That looks so, so good!!!!!!!!!!!!
