Thank you Azz. Do you know if that Spitfire, in particular, took part in D-Day or in Europe afterwards? There does seem to be a lot of warbirds sporting invasion stripes, they can't have all been there. Do like the Red Arrows, the Royal Australian Air Force's aerobatic display team, the Roulettes, started in Macchi jet trainers but swapped to a Pilatus turbo-prob in the late '80s. Just can't go past the sound of six or seven jet aircraft beating about the sky. If the Macchis sounded like they had Merlin engines bolted to the front of them it might be a different thing.

I know one of them was commissioned just after the war so it never actually flew in the war.
