I'm a Japanese person who loves China Airlines. I use it often. We use Taoyuan Airport transit to destinations such as the United States, Canada, France, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
love this video on China Airlines Premium Economy. being from the middle region of the US, I'd not heard of them. here in the Midwest we are absolutely pounded with insane prices for round-trip international premium economy prices. so i figured what would happen if i flew from my home airport into SFO maybe then flew to my destination in SE Asia? and i found that even with flying into SFO, staying overnight in a hotel in SFO to ensure no missed flights out, and then flying out of SFO i STILL SAVE almost $500 versus flying round trip out of my city. also, appreciate the comment on the fixed seat slide forward versus regular recline and the comparisons on baggage and average airline prices. so well done. thank you.
Both do it really well. More business minus than economy plus. Frequent flyer status aside, and hard product wise I will go for China Airlines for the privacy and bar. Taiwanese are friendlier I suppose haha. When I flew CX HKG-HAN in July the Taiwanese crew was super nice hahaha
It's super comfy! I'm taiwanese and I've had this product along with their business class, they are both amazing! Try them out when you get the chance!
The lounge looked relaxing, the food delicious. Nice plane! Looks comfortable with nice touches like the slippers and headphones, pillow and blanket. Really like that you get an amenity kit. Glad you enjoyed your meal. Nice clean lav. Breakfast looked appetizing and it’s nice you have access to the galley. I think this was an excellent flight. Thanks.
I remember flying back from Taiwan to the UK earlier this year, I have to say TPE is one of the nicest airports I’ve ever been to, I can’t wait to go back already
I plan to fly premium econ on China Airlines on my next trip seeing how nice it is. I don't think I can do economy for international flights for 10+ hrs, so this is a good option. Thanks for sharing!
Earlier this month I flew CI return trip LHRTPESYD which is total flight time of 21 plus 25hrs, all in those PE seats. Staff very efficient and boy do they get through 1st service quickly after takeoff allowing you to get to sleep as needed. Agree with your positive view on the food. For the shell seats, to get comfortable I needed two of the small cushions, one in the small of my back the other just behind my neck. When reclined it did take a little jiggling to find a comfortable position, the seatbelt needs to be fully extended, but sleep was good, I got 6 or more hours on each leg. CI81TPE>LHR was delayed on the ground while taxiing for take off due to a warning light in the cockpit, so we were on the apron for 3 hrs during which time CI arranged for sandwiches to be served. CI really looked after us and kept us informed at all times.
Good that the crew looked after you even during the delay 👍🏼 I’ve been on some five-star airlines where they offered nothing during the delay True the seat back could’ve been thicker and softer. They have the same problem in economy class
Booking front row premium economy seats on china airlines would give generous legroom, however they tend to sell out fast especially the window seats. So it’s best to book a month or two prior to your departure date
A few years back, if booking US-SE Asia in Premium Economy, CI would provide an upgrade to Business on the intra-Asia flight. They might still do so, but not on the cheapest PE fares.
China Airlines' premium economy looks promising, the seat doesn't look that narrow and there's more privacy compared to other premium economy I saw in the past and indeed for a taller people it might be a problem when they recline their seats, as their knees might touch the seat infront. The lounge's food choice looks amazing too and even have a dedicated section for vegetarian, even though it's indeed lacking natural lights. 11:36, does the crew really make that announcement when the engine is already rolling? That's so weird😂. Omg, that voml dinner looks so delicious, as expected from a meal with michelin green star and the noodles for breakfast looks okay, I still prefer the dinner voml. Great video :)) and which trip report you gonna upload next?
re 11:36 yes haha it happens when the taxi is shorter than usual and we takeoff the moment we reach the runway🤣I did prefer the dinner too, the cream sauce was divine! Thanks mate!
With CI partnering DL and AS to link me between SFO/LAX and DFW, I can see the possibility of me trying them. CI looks good - and perhaps now I'm putting Taiwanese carriers as my second carrier of choice by nationality, the first being Japanese.
That's right Jayden. It has a specific name called 梅苑, which was used to be a designated lounge for first class passengers and Paragon members. But personally speaking, I perfer the lounge at T1, which is more modern in design.
Hi Jayden. I thoroughly enjoyed this one for reasons I don't know ... maybe it was the pace. The on-board amenities looked really top notch. Even in economy the baggage allowance is 2 x 23kg. China Air and Saudia are very competitive on long haul. One minor suggestion if I may ... maybe you can comment on punctuality of departure and arrival?
Glad you enjoyed it! I’m actually talking a bit less and slower in some newer videos, whilst adding more music and captions for food and beverages instead of me explaining it. Seems like people are liking it!
Re the suggestion, I normally only comment if it’s delayed. I sometimes ‘pushback/takeoff is ontime’ but not always but I suppose I should be more consistent ahha, thanks for the feedback
I was curious what the premium reclining seats would look like. Good to know as someone almost 1,90m tall that these leg rests would be a less comfortable than just regular seats!
Another great review JW. Love the lounge and food reviews especially. Omg… your obsession with coat hooks… have you EVER used one on a flight?? Hey.. serious question.,. Is there any airline you would deliberately choose NOT to fly because of safety concerns? Would love to know.
Some really nice touches with that PE seat! Reading light, bottle holder and the privacy it affords, and even rhe choice of legrest or footrest. Meals both looked great. Nice noodle bar at the Taoyuan lounge. But tbh im not a fan of Taoyuan, its way too dark and ponderous inside.
Would you consider the bulkhead seat better than the regular seat? Also, would you take window or isle? I have a long 15 hour flight from LAX to Taipei so am trying to pick the best seat
Another great vlog, mate. Recently I completed a RT LAX - TPE trip and was impressed with CAL's improvements, such as finally ditching the cheap plastic entree dish and utensils for the real thing. It's nice to eat out of a ceramic dish and use metal cutlery. The lavatory was spotless on both legs of the trip, which is not easy to do on a long haul. Still, China Airlines remains a 4-star carrier on Skytrax. Compared to their Korean competitors, Korean Air and Asiana, both have been upgraded to five stars on Skytrax in past few years. Anything you see which keeps CAL from becoming a five-star airline on Skytrax ? I know you've flown on all these carriers, so maybe you see differences among them. Hmm good question. I could only think of very tiny things like in economy they don't offer ice-cream, and their pillows in economy and premium aren't soft. Was gonna say their lounges too but I would argue it's nicer than KE's

Are there any disadvantages to the fixed shell seats? Considering that reclining becomes less intrusive to the person behind you, I wonder why don’t more airlines have this design?
Main disadvantage would be the reduced knee space if you recline AND have the legrest out. My solution is to not use the legrest, you can still use the footrest :) For the second question, my theory would be cost. The whole shell costs extra money to make and it also comes with ongoing engineering cost. The extra weight also means more fuel cost. It’s probably why no airlines do it in economy.
@@JaydenWong Fun fact: I believe some airlines have hard shell economy seats on their legacy cabins. I believe ANA's 767 still have those type of seats.
One thing I noticed on flights out of Taiwan, the apples and pears tasted like they were soaked in salted water. I didn’t notice that on flights from other countries. Your PE meal was similar to mine out of Japan. Great service and food. The PE meal I got out of Japan was the same as Economy.
