What a brilliant video. This has definitely been added to my bucket list. I've flown Emirates Business but First always looked out of reach. This is a great way to experience it albeit for 2 hours. I guessed your starting airport from the statues...!
I flew Emirates Business Class to Dubai and Taipei a couple of years ago. I was not especially impressed, sorry. I'm a disabled older person. I was largely ignored. Indeed, treated with some disdain, made to feel like a tiresome, needy, incompetent old man. Which I probably am. But ... really skilled airline professionals do not forcibly remind me of such unpleasant facts!
@@jarabaa Well let's be clear, for anyone to be treated like that is terrible and to treat you badly because of a disability is possibly a crime, and I'm really sorry to hear about that. I hope you contacted Emirates and told them of your experience.
Great Video. This is class and something I've been meaning to do for a while. I was gutted to find out they didn't include the chauffeur service, but don't mind dragging my ass across the BTS to the airlink to enjoy EK First at that price!
well deserved. Gosh the cabin is like a 5 star Hotel. Beautiful. What wonderful services. (The Lounge at the Airport is fabulous, too drinks and food) Seat bed looks so comfy I would not want to get off! Your own mini bar! A shower!!!!! You are kidding😀 unbelievable.
Cheers for this amazing tip Phil. I'm a few years away yet from my grey gap year but never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be able to experience this. Quick SkyScanner check today (June 2024) and yep,£460 1st or £273 Business. Awesome.
Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. You can book separate classes on the Emirates website, so you may even save a bit doing that over two one way fares.
Great video and insight. I just looked at google flights for the route and the cheapest I could find for the next 12 months is now £693. Still good. You got a good price

I hope you can tell from the video that I had an amazing flight, and it was all because of the crew. And this is the first thing they should teach the cabin crew, you make or break every single flight for every single passenger in every class. I've been very fortunate to have had some amazing crews on my travels.
Fantastic experience/knowledge - never knew this route/class combo existed at such a great price - thank you for telling us about it - will definitely try to experience this at some point in the future!
@@AmiyaStore Bangkok does seem to be a cheaper place to fly from, I'd use google maps and search for Bangkok to anywhere in the different classes and see what pops up.
Great video as usual Phil, loved your enthusiasm, i didn't know you could have so much fun with a mini bar, great review, can't wait to try it myself, see you on Friday!!
Good tip and brings back happy memories of FC on the 380s. The Emirates flight attendants really make one feel extra special. The sleeps suits they issue in the spa bags are so comfortable and utilise smart nano technology to keep your skin cool and moist. And the Vintage Dom Perignon is a nice touch with the caviar and blinis.
I did this flight in mid-April back-to-back BKK-HKG-BKK rotation in F, and unexpectedly bumped into Matt from Matt's Planet in the lounge, so expect a video from him in the future. Boarding at BKK was chaotic to say the least, hanging around the gate area waiting, presumably due to the late incoming flight: this was at the tail end of the effects of the Dubai rain storms, so I put it down to that. I'd flown out of BKK a few days earlier with JAL from the same gate setup from BKK to HND, and it was far smoother and better organised. You did exceptionally well to shoehorn in a shower and three courses, especially after a plate load in the lounge! The service caviar is awesome, better than you get on the ground in most poncy restaurants, very generous with the caviar. Personally I find the Mezze in Emirates F a bit over the top in terms of quantity, and I actually preferred the Qatar biz version I had out of DOH a couple of days later. Crew were excellent on a personal level, although on my flights they seemed a bit disorganised: my meal service unexpectedly came to an end after the caviar and Mezze on the first segment, there wasn't enough time. I didn't even have a shower. It was a little better organised on the return segment. The bar area at the back was quite chaotic both ways, as the crew started securing the cabin after service. I had caviar three times that day, twice on board Emirates and once in the Amex Centurion Lounge at HKG! I managed to walk off the return leg with three pairs of pyjamas, two pairs of slipper, two amenity kits, two sets of desk cosmetics, two diaries with pens, and two Emirates cloth spa bags to carry it all. Quite a haul!
Thank you, so many interesting comments, I'd love to try JAL, maybe BKK to HND is the go. And then caviar in the centurion lounge in Hong Kong. And why didn't I think to purloin extras from the neighbouring seats! Thanks again, Phil
The crew are always…. Always…. Fabulous! And I will never get used to flying first with Emirates… Its amazing! To be pampered and taken care of for eight hours…. It is such a treat! And as we know….. It could all stop tomorrow, then we wont be able to afford to do it, and so it would be back to normal…. But for now? Fabulous!

I've only once been on Emirates. I was in coach (with a 3-months old child) and the staff we absolutely amazing. Like nothing I've experienced before or after. So it's not only 1st class...
Great trip report! I’ve been looking into the same route for years so I knew the moment I saw the thumbnail. Flight looked awesome. The Emirates lounge at BKK is somewhat disappointing compared to the newer combined Business and First lounge Qatar has at BKK. This vid made me still trying to get that shower in the air trip with EK BKK-HKG some time. And Dom Perignon is never wrong 🥂
Wow, thank you for sharing a wonderful experience, I can clearly see that you enjoyed every moment and the crew could see that too. I just subscribed and I look forward to future reports.
Thanks for your comment, I have found that the crew is the make or break item on a flight. A great crew can make a poor experience good and a poor crew can make the best seat in the world feel second rate
Thanks for your kind comments and your support, I have to be honest, when I first started I found it terrifying and I still do sometimes, but I do love travel.

@@jarabaa Well let's be clear, for anyone to be treated like that is terrible and to treat you badly because of a disability is possibly a crime, and I'm really sorry to hear about that. I hope you contacted Emirates and told them of your experience.
Great Video I found a fare on EK from BKK to HKG for 650 Euro roundtrip in Business and First so one flight in Business and one in First Class!
Nice one
Great Video. This is class and something I've been meaning to do for a while. I was gutted to find out they didn't include the chauffeur service, but don't mind dragging my ass across the BTS to the airlink to enjoy EK First at that price!
I hope you do it, it really is a once in a lifetime experience.
I could see the real emotions flowing from within. You actually had a good time. Good luck
It was a once in a lifetime experience.
You seem like a genuinely nice guy. And you're grounded too (excuse the pun). Nothing wrong with being grateful. Thanks for the video.
I love the pun, fully excused 😀 Thanks for your kind comments, Phil
well deserved. Gosh the cabin is like a 5 star Hotel. Beautiful. What wonderful services. (The Lounge at the Airport is fabulous, too drinks and food) Seat bed looks
so comfy I would not want to get off! Your own mini bar!
A shower!!!!! You are kidding😀 unbelievable.
I could have spent a day on there without once looking at my watch, it was an amazing experience.
I think he is a good, humble and kind man. Great video!
Thank you, that's very kind.
First time here mate reality enjoyed the video,no bullshit just honest and true review ,subed
Thank you for your kind comments and support, much appreciated.
Loved this enthusiasm..subscribed..I love emirates !!
Thank you for your kind comment and support, I definitely want to fly Emirates again.
Great video and insight. I just looked at google flights for the route and the cheapest I could find for the next 12 months is now £693. Still good. You got a good price
Thanks for your kind comment, the prices have gone up but there are still some work arounds, I've put some notes on my blog mygreygapyear.com/emirates-price-update-hong-kong-and-bangkok/
Great review, you looked so happy and excited….. awesome!!! 😁
Thanks for your kind comment. One commentator said I looked giddy, and I think that's the best description 😀
Really enjoy this! Will be watching more videos for sure, I watch alot of these type of videos and I really like your video style and personality
Thank you so much, it really means a lot to me.
Great channel Phil, found it after Matt's, like your enthusiasm. I've now watched all the videos and caught up. The more you travel, the more you want to, it's very infectious. Best wishes, Keith.
I agree with you, travel is addictive, glad you're enjoying it. Next video is Friday 7th June at 6pm
Love your videos / reviews - just booked this flight (for in 2 days....) and will certainly enjoy like you did. Keep the good work !
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I hope you have the best trip, let me know how it goes.
@@mygreygapyear 4K - went perfectly, flawless experience
@@richyjoye Great news, glad you enjoyed it.
As a crew member, it’s so refreshing to watch this video and hear loads of positivity for once 😅😊. Hope you had a great trip
I hope you can tell from the video that I had an amazing flight, and it was all because of the crew. And this is the first thing they should teach the cabin crew, you make or break every single flight for every single passenger in every class. I've been very fortunate to have had some amazing crews on my travels.
great video. everyone should experience first class once in their lives !
Thanks, yeah First Class was a bucket list item ticked off, especially the shower in the sky
Fantastic experience/knowledge - never knew this route/class combo existed at such a great price - thank you for telling us about it - will definitely try to experience this at some point in the future!
Thanks for your kind comment, I think everyone should take that flight if they get the chance, it is an experience to remember.
Are there more routes from Bangkok like this ? Nice video btw
@@AmiyaStore Bangkok does seem to be a cheaper place to fly from, I'd use google maps and search for Bangkok to anywhere in the different classes and see what pops up.
That was an amazing flight with an amazing crew. I'm glad you were able to experience it!! Great video too.
Thanks, that means a lot, glad you enjoyed the video.
What an amazing experience! Thanks for the info + video!
My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it.
Love this dude! Honest, polite and genuinely loving the experience. What a breath of fresh air x
Thank you so much Jay, you're very kind.
Great to see your video doing so well - congratulations and well deserved!
Thank you, that's a very kind thing to say. I must admit I'm as shocked as anyone.
G'Day Gov. Thrilled to see you splurge and treat yourself. Cheers from Perth West Australia!
Well I'm sending my thanks all the way back to one of my favourite parts of the world.
Great video as usual Phil, loved your enthusiasm, i didn't know you could have so much fun with a mini bar, great review, can't wait to try it myself, see you on Friday!!
Thanks for your comment, I debated putting me chuckling over the mini bar in, I don't know why it tickled me so 😀. See you there, all being well.
Aw, I didn't get a sleep suit, if I'm lucky enough to get a full flight with them in First maybe I'll get one then.
Thanks again,
Phil
@@mygreygapyear I didn't need to "purloin" them, they were the result of asking as well as being proactively offered!
@@nezbrun872 Very nice :)
I just watched a video, from beginning to end, about a flight that I will never be taking😁Well done👏🏾👍🏾 that was really interesting🤗🇬🇧
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, but never say never.
Loved watch your emirates experience, it exceeded it’s reputation. 👍
Thank you, much appreciated
The crew are always…. Always…. Fabulous!
And I will never get used to flying first with Emirates… Its amazing!
To be pampered and taken care of for eight hours…. It is such a treat!
And as we know….. It could all stop tomorrow, then we wont be able to afford to do it, and so it would be back to normal….
But for now? Fabulous!
Thanks for your comment and sharing your views, I wish you many more brilliant first class trips, and I agree, each experience is to be savoured as the privilege it is.
I felt so good for you as you enjoyed your experience.
Thanks for your comment, I really did
First video I've watched of yours - love the My Grey Gap year handle as I'm looking to retire next year and would love to do the same! Have subscribed and look forward to more of your enthusiastic videos to watch and learn cheap tricks as I am by no means well off!!
Thanks for your video and your support, I'm glad you liked the video, and I do hope you have a brilliant retirement and join me and the other grey gappers around the world.
I've only once been on Emirates. I was in coach (with a 3-months old child) and the staff we absolutely amazing. Like nothing I've experienced before or after. So it's not only 1st class...
Thanks for your comment, another thumbs up for Emirates cabin crew, thanks for sharing.
I've got my fingers crossed for you to get the flight, the shower and the champagne 🍾
Your enthusiasm really comes across. Excellent!
Thank you, much appreciated.
Good informative video mate…
Might want to do some walking next time to get your daily step count up 🏃➡️
Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed it.
That was a brilliant video. You need more subscribers.
Thanks very much for the experience. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I appreciate that, thank you, I hope you've subbed 😀
Loved your effusiveness over the full first class experience !!
Thank you for your kind comment, it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Thanks for sharing this amazing 1st class experience🎉😊😮
You're very welcome.
Brilliant video. Thanks for sharing your journey with us to watch and sort of experience it. Might have to use that trick :) I'm now a subscriber too.
Thank you for your comment and support, it really is appreciated, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Great stuff Phil. Dom Perignon 2013 & Caviar did you imagine yourself doing this a couple of years ago. More power to your elbow! David
Hi David, I certainly didn't think this was ever possible.
Thanks
Phil
Wow, thank you for sharing a wonderful experience, I can clearly see that you enjoyed every moment and the crew could see that too. I just subscribed and I look forward to future reports.
Thank you and welcome to the channel, so glad you enjoyed the video
Great stuff mate. This was the best review as personal as it gets about the flight. Top man.
Thank you so much, it really is appreciated.
Absolutely loved your genuine excitement and enjoyment on this flight, wonderful!
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it.
Good Man. Loved this video and vicariously lived through the experience with you. Great to see your enthusiasm and happiness 🙏
Thank you, much appreciated, so glad you enjoyed it.
Glad you had good flight and crew. Flying back from Japan to UK via Dubai in Business Class - the crew on the Japan Dubai route indifferent sadly
Thanks for your comment, I have found that the crew is the make or break item on a flight. A great crew can make a poor experience good and a poor crew can make the best seat in the world feel second rate
Hi, just found your channel
Well done !! Solo travelling is fabulous isn’t it? Look forward to seeing more in your channel , new subscriber 👏👍
Thanks for your kind comments and your support, I have to be honest, when I first started I found it terrifying and I still do sometimes, but I do love travel.
A great watch and obvious you enjoyed the whole experience. I'm off to Thailand in July and having checked the price of a round trip (BK to HK) in first class is making me think, why not!
Why not indeed, I think Emirates sell it as a back to back as well. I hope you have an amazing trip.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am taking this flight in August soon. Can't wait!!!
That's brilliant, I hope you have an amazing trip
Exactly the same flight I did during Covid when I was living in Hong Kong. Was a 777 however (I think) so no shower but brilliant value and an experience I will not forget. Thanks for the videos, brilliant as always 😊
Thank you for your kind comment, it's really appreciated. Hope you had an amazing flight
Came across this by chance great vlog and thanks for
the info enjoy your gap year 🍻
Thanks for your comment, glad you enjoyed it.
I'd mug you for that amenity kit myself! What a fantastic opportunity to fly F Class with Emirates for such a reasonable price! Looking forward to trying this myself when I can!
It is an excellent amenity kit, I was genuinely surprised by how good it was. Even the wash bag is good.
You were so cute! I’d be as excited! I’m going to try this from Boston to Dubai it’s worth a shot! Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed the video, I hope you have an amazing flight
A great video of a great experience! Well done Phil and hope to catch up with you soon!
Thanks for your comments and your support, look forward to it.
A real person blogger. Amazing 😊
Thank you for your kind comments and support, it's really appreciated.
What an amazing experience for a 2 hour flight. A shower is just mad.
Oh I totally loved it and you're right, the shower in the sky is just mental.
I did first class on a A380 from London ro Qatar which had a bar. I got absolutely hammered wirh a great bunch of guys.
Ha ha ha, now that's the way to travel 😂😂😂
I might just book a first class trip because of this. Thank you👍
Glad you enjoyed the video, hope you have a great trip
This came into my feed I have subscribed what a nice personable chap!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.
This is invaluable advice if you live in Hong Kong and want a one way flight home from Bangkok. If you don't live in Hong Kong however, you just get to watch a really nice guy living his best life for a bit 👍
Thanks mate, that's very kind of you, much appreciated.
I enjoyed your video. You're definitely someone I'd love to bump into for a drink on my travels, very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed the video, If you spot me, shout up and we can grab a coffee. I was spotted in Heathrow at the weekend by some very lovely people and had a nice chat with both groups.
I’m going to Hong Kong in January.. onward to Ho Chi Minh and Bangkok. How lucky I haven’t booked my return to Hong Kong yet… now I will take your advice😍 Thank you for a great video and entertaining facts on aviation. 🙏👍
Hope you have a great trip 👍
This video is sooo marvellous...I really enjoyed it...
Thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for the video, sir. I'd love to experience First Class one day. So far, I've only flown in Premium Economy and Business Class. For a flight that's only 2.5 to 3 hours long, it might be a bit short to fully appreciate the luxury and amenities of First Class.
Oh, you're right, it was a bit short to fully appreciate it, I really had to pack it all in.
Thanks for your kind comments
Phil
please keep posting, love these vids
Thank you so much for your kind comments, not planning to go back to work just yet...
This is a great video!! I just found this channel & glad I did. You found a perfect little life hack there!! Shame you'd have to do an 11hr flight from London to Bangkok first... but might be worth it haha
Yeah, you have to be there to take advantage, fortunately I was taking a trip to Hong Kong and Macau anyway 😄
What a thoroughly likeable chap!
Why thank you, how kind.
A wonderful vlog and a bucket list of mine ... thank you so much for sharing this flight so humbly ... 🙂
Thank you for your kind words, you just made my afternoon
Fantastic video! Always feel great watching you as you have such a great and positive personality !
Thank you so much, it's appreciated.
Thanks for the cool Video, ......missed the Bar between First and Business.
Done: Departure from BKK to HKG July 22nd and return HKG to BKK July 26th, my lovely wife, my daughter, my brother in law and myself, four of us in the EK First Class, what a trip.
Glad you had an amazing trip, I think the bar was at the very back of the plane, behind business.
Thanks for your comment,
