  • After snapping my previous paddle I’ve stagnated due to my old Aluminium paddle being unsuitable. It’s too long, too heavy and the handle cuts my hand. Ordered a Downwind specific carbon paddle from PPC. It’s got a 115 square inch blade with a 13 degree angle. It’s super light and it’s incredibly stiff.
Here’s my thoughts out the box and out on the water.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the tail sinking slightly. As soon as you paddle it’ll sort itself out. Much better than nose diving every stroke! You’ll crack this if you keep at it. For info I’m riding an axis 1310 and have the mast middle or slightly rear of the box. Moving it forwards will make it the nose lift earlier and stall, you’ll be standing further forwards to compensate for this and hence too far forward on the board which causes nose diving.

      Excellent! Thanks.
That was what I was thinking was happening.
I did feel more comfortable and stable with the foil more rearwards.

Can you get your stance further back on the board? I have the same board as you at 97kg. My front foot is at the centre of the footstrap inserts for flat water paddle ups with the back foot on top of the mast. If you move back on the board it will stop it nose diving every stroke. All that water coming over the top of the board is really slowing you down and pushing you back down into the water surface…. Oh BTW keep at it as you’re making good progress. It’s taken me 9months to get first proper flat water paddle ups! Also well worth looking at a few months coach Casey subscription!

      Thanks for the info.
I have tried standing back further and I felt the tail sinking and dragging. I’m thinking in need to be forward until I have a bit of speed then inch back?
I’ve recently moved the foil forward which seems to make the nose dive more and it’s also more unstable.
      So many variables.
      Will check out Coach Casey.

Would be possible that you could include a shot of the power control attachment please.

      Hi.
Do you mean the controller on the paddle handle?
