Really enjoyable videos! I wanted to add another seating alternative I used to use in my Meyers Sportspal Canoe, just a folding blade footed lawn chair. Similar to a Larry Chair but a bit higher seating. So, with my new inflatable SUP, I did order its available kayak seat but decided to buy a Pooya Folding Camping Chair from Wayfair (cheaper than a kayak seat and free shipping). It is rated to 265 lbs. and I have yet to receive it but I think it'll work great. So, for someone who wants to fish and paddle primarily standing but wants to sit down to re-tie or eat lunch or fish sitting, this is a good and light alternative to add to, say, a cooler seat. This one weighs 6 lbs. and can be strapped to a SUP just like any other. I'm here in Texas, will let you know how it works out.

@@texaspaddleboard7797 I use the second option you showed with the buckles, but I made custom ones permanently attached to the seat so they wouldn't get lost. I love how quickly the seat can be removed and stowed with that method.
Yeah, a small cooler works great for smaller to average-size people. For larger people (over 6 feet tall, 250+ lbs) a cooler can raise your center of gravity high enough to be a bit less stable.
Good question - in the video description I put a link to them all. If you’re watching the video on your phone, click the video title “My favorite kayak seats…” and the description will open up. Click “more to see all of it and they are all listed in there.
Not sure how you feel about this versus a kayak. I’m debating if I should get an inflatable kayak or sup w/chair for travel. I love sitting in my kayak!!
Hi, If you don't intend to use it as a stand-up paddleboard, and only plan on sitting down, then a kayak tends to be able to handle better in shallow water than a paddleboard with a deep 8" or longer rear fin. A stand-up paddleboard with a seat is an good kayak, but not a great kayak. If you want a great kayak, you'll need to spend a little money on a good inflatable or solid kayak. If you want a great combo of versatility and price, an inflatable paddleboard with seat is good.
I am not sure if you can help answering this question, If I ask you paddleboard as a kayak or a kayak ? which you will choose and why? I am not fishing, I do mainly rivers and sometimes lake michigan, I like the openspace of the paddleboard but I am not sure about speed, tracking and handling choppy waves.
If I needed the storage space and had a budget less than $400-500, I would do a Paddleboard as a kayak. If I had a place to store and easy transportation of a kayak or a budget For a high quality inflatable kayak, I would do the kayak.
Hi, This is the little white Engle cooler I use for fishing. The rod holders come with it but you don't have to attach any or all of them. They just bolt on or unscrew off easy. I love it. amzn.to/3psek6A
Which one was the best fit for you? A. Lower Framed Stadium Seat (Around $50) --- amzn.to/3cEvESA B. Slightly raised Stadium Seat (Around $50) --- amzn.to/3nFxBzQ C. Framed perfectly-raised Kayak Seat (Around $150) --- amzn.to/3UKreLV I personally own and use all the gear I recommend. I believe trust matters, and recommendations should come from actual users of the product. I'm also an Amazon affiliate, and earn a small commission if you decide to buy any of the gear I recommend.
Yeah, I've done that before. its easy and inexpensive, but the velcro can be a little cumbersome after a few "take-on-and-off's" because other stuff starts to stick to it.
@@andreafollo8934 correct you can totally do that. The hook stays clear of the SUP for me even if not removed, so I haven't bothered to remove it yet. Maybe i will, i like the idea.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Is there any advice or no-go on glueing D-ring to properly clip a seat. We have the body-glove Performer 11 SUP model. Merci beaucoup!
That's a good board. I think gluing a D-Ring to a board is fine, just don't let the extra glue that squeezes out the side stay and make a mess. Some people worry too much what the board looks like vs how well they enjoy using it. Make your board as enjoyable for you as possible. I have a gopro mount on mine, and a stickyflask mount attached to it and I love having them on there.
Is this doable if I don't have side rings that far back on my SUP? if I use the simpler stadium seat, I can just sit in it on my board and it probably won't slide around on the surface will it ?
If you don't have D-Rings, you can either buy d-ring patches, (search amazon for SUP D Ring) or use a tie-down strap after the board is fully inflated (this isn't ideal, and will create drag in the water). It's okay to use a seat without attaching it if you're on a lake or somewhere calm.
You can easily stand with all of them. When I stand with any of them, I stand in front of the chair about 4-8 inches. The first type of seats (the collapsible clip on ones) will collapse when you stand 90% of the time, so when you sit back down you'll need to adjust the seat back to the normal position. But overall, none of the seats have been in my way when I want to stand.
Great video. My board came with a flat folding seat but I want to get a raised seat. However, my board only has 2 d-rings. Would I still be able to attach it?
You have 3 options: 1 get the d-ring patches and glue which would work fine but not jive with the color of your board. The good news is the D-Rings can be added easily. You can buy different color patch D-Rings like these: amzn.to/3Pddu8L and the glue like this amzn.to/3P7ARAq to add them on yourself. Option 2 is use strap tie down all around the board. Option 3 is try it without latching down the seat. I’ve used the seat without securing it down and it’s not a big deal.
Have you tried any of the saddle type seats? I prefer to kneel, but my knees are less enthusiastic. I was thinking of something like one of the meditation style seats. No idea if there are such things you can strap to the board.
I haven't tried the seats like paddle-sit. Sometimes I like to kneel and paddle like a canoe, too. I've found kneeling on just one knee (like the stereotypical "marriage proposal") is more comfortable, better balance, and easy to alternate between knees.
Yes, you can stick a gopro mount on a SUP - just use the regular adhesive mount that comes with a GoPro. Fishing is best with a cooler that has a rod holder attached to it. Consider the 19 quart Engle cooler.
Thanks for this. I have a question you might or might not be able to answer. I have an Airvolution 2 rigid inflatable kayak (drop stitch construction, much like a paddle board). Do you think the pressure of the base rail of the BKC seat is going to wear on the kayak floor? I’ve only had the kayak out for a couple of 3 hr paddles and I’ve already decided a seat upgrade is an absolute must. Cheers. - Tom
Hey @TomDearie the floor of your Airvolution2 looks to have a 2-layer PVC base, so that's a strong start. I don't see the denier listed (basically the weight or thread-count of the material) but based on the price its probably not the cheap stuff you see on $250 paddleboards. I'd say you should feel safe with almost any other seat in your inflatable kayak, but if you do get something like this one here, amzn.to/36I3fIx or here amzn.to/3nFxBzQ , just (1) be sure to secure the seat to those d rings well so the seat doesn't rub back and forth much and (2) consider getting a small piece of EVA foam to put under the back corner of the seats because most the weight will and rubbing will be there.
@@texaspaddleboard7797 Thanks. 😎 That’s the thought I had - I’ve been looking around for an undermat to distribute the weight and prevent chafing (on the floor, not my backside 😳). Cheers. 👍
It does sound non-intuitive at first, but it works fantastic and actually looks really normal when a person is seated in it. When you look at it when someone is not seated in it you might think to yourself "That's weird - I've never seen that before" but then you see it used & properly strapped down and realize it fits like a glove :)
Great video...thankyou:- Question...I am in Europe and often want to leave my gear to go to a restaurant etc...do you have tips on how to secure your paddle, board, accessories? Sadly these days over here things need to be locked..or they go 'walkies' 🤫😏
Hey, good question. The trouble with locking any of your paddling gear is the things you would attached a lock or cable to are soft materials like handles or straps - which can be easily cut. You may be better served by getting a simple tracking device like this and being able to help the police trace whoever stole your stuff: amzn.to/3AOeRa3
heh - it is a good idea! Looks like a few people have tried it, but not really well-done yet: amzn.to/3UjD9jm - strap on seat amzn.to/3Si7qgN - seat with cooler behind and rod holders amzn.to/3BPZw8R - a really big cooler seat for fishing boats

True, but the good news is the D-Rings can be added fairly easily. you can buy different color patch D-Rings like these: amzn.to/3Pddu8L and the glue like this amzn.to/3P7ARAq to add them on yourself.
Good question. I hear it’s seat isn’t great. My best guess would be the green Ozark Trail one in my video, because the bottom is soft and likely to fit fine in the specific shape of the Origami Paddler. And it has great back support that doesn’t require clipping the seat to the kayak.
A plastic crate flipped upside down has exactly the same result for a fraction of the price! Preferably a hard, sturdy one which is not collapsible like some grocery crates. More the kind of crates where glass bottles go in to for easy transporting. Guys, c'mon, you know what I'm talking about!!
If you are using a seat, isn't it better to attach your leash to the front of the board? Seems like dangerous entanglement would be an issue running a leash from rear of board past the seat.
If you're using a seat I wouldn't recommend using a leash. Instead, be sure to wear a life jacket. The leash is important for stand-up paddle boarding or surfing in the ocean so you don't get separated from your board in a current, but kayaks and leashes generally are not used together.
Question im used to a SOT but mine is getting heavy so now considering Sup With seat My question doesnt a raised seat make it more unstable for more choppy waters or in general Is a SUP even suitable for choppy waters
Hey Simon, If a seat on a paddleboard is raised anywhere between 1-4 inches it doesn't raise your center-of-gravity high enough to make any difference. Once your seat is 5-7 inches high, then it MIGHT make a difference if your SUP is less than 30 inches wide or you weight over 200 lbs or your height around 5-foot 10-inches or taller. If you're lighter or shorter, than even a 5-7 inch lift will still be navigable in mild choppy water. I've paddled on the coast, and know what that choppy feeling is like, and I've also SUP fished. My experience is for choppy water (like the coast or a really windy day at the lake) is nothing is a great as a good sit-inside kayak. But in choppy water a 31-33" wide SUP with a somewhat low seat is okay for just paddling, but somewhat difficult for SUP fishing. Hope that helps. Do me a favor and subscribe to my channel - I'm trying to reach 1,000 subscribers!
Thank you i did subscribe youre very informative I kayak on the east coast in brooklyn and allways have to deal with choppy waters strong currents and winds in the bay. So to ge honest still very hesitant about feeling safe on a Sup vs my sot

Bought a paddle board, and realized that I need a seat for my paddle board. My paddle board doesn't have any strap for the seat. Can u recommend a seat for paddle board that doesn't have seat strap?
Yeah, for that situation, get the #3 seat I recommend in the video description. Then do one of the two options: (1) get 1 or 2 tie-down straps, and one your sup is fully inflated tie-down the seat through the bottom part of the chair. Then cut the extra part of the strap except for 3-6 inches slack. (2) buy and attach on some d-ring patches by doing an Amazon search for “paddle board d ring patch” and attaching the d-ring patches with PVC stitch “liquid pvc” glue. Super strong.
I don't own one, but couldn't you just use a low beach chair. They are basically what you called a low stadium seat. They are like 10. I might try using mine in my kayak

Huh. Just standard stadium seats? I have those parent maybe I'll try it. With the bell Crow straps once I get my board I just ordered
Awesome video. The puppy was a great help. If I don't have a puppy at the beach, will a kitten work as well?
Also using a cooler or a fisherman's bucket for a seat seems interesting is there anything to them that might be interesting
Yeah, a small cooler works great for smaller to average-size people. For larger people (over 6 feet tall, 250+ lbs) a cooler can raise your center of gravity high enough to be a bit less stable.
Where can I get the straps to attach the raised kayak seat to the D-rings?
Good question - in the video description I put a link to them all. If you’re watching the video on your phone, click the video title “My favorite kayak seats…” and the description will open up. Click “more to see all of it and they are all listed in there.
i just use a cooler with a pad on it works great for when i dont wanna stand anymore
Should I roll or for my inflatable paddle board?
So here's a puppy instead 😎👍🏻
Not sure how you feel about this versus a kayak. I’m debating if I should get an inflatable kayak or sup w/chair for travel. I love sitting in my kayak!!
Hi, If you don't intend to use it as a stand-up paddleboard, and only plan on sitting down, then a kayak tends to be able to handle better in shallow water than a paddleboard with a deep 8" or longer rear fin. A stand-up paddleboard with a seat is an good kayak, but not a great kayak. If you want a great kayak, you'll need to spend a little money on a good inflatable or solid kayak. If you want a great combo of versatility and price, an inflatable paddleboard with seat is good.
but would an budget drop-stitched sup (converted to kayak) defeat an budget non-dropstitch a la intext, in the ocean?@@texaspaddleboard7797
Hi, amazing video but I couldn't found the link for the cooler wit rod holders, can you put that? Thank and good luck
Hi, This is the little white Engle cooler I use for fishing. The rod holders come with it but you don't have to attach any or all of them. They just bolt on or unscrew off easy. I love it. amzn.to/3psek6A
Which one was the best fit for you?
A. Lower Framed Stadium Seat (Around $50) --- amzn.to/3cEvESA
B. Slightly raised Stadium Seat (Around $50) --- amzn.to/3nFxBzQ
C. Framed perfectly-raised Kayak Seat (Around $150) --- amzn.to/3UKreLV
I personally own and use all the gear I recommend. I believe trust matters, and recommendations should come from actual users of the product. I'm also an Amazon affiliate, and earn a small commission if you decide to buy any of the gear I recommend.
You could also velcro that stadium seat right onto the board, and same with a cooler, right?
Yeah, I've done that before. its easy and inexpensive, but the velcro can be a little cumbersome after a few "take-on-and-off's" because other stuff starts to stick to it.
Great video. Just what I was looking for. What do you do about the stadium seat hook on the bottom?
I figured it out. The hook is attached with a lock nut so once I loosened the lacing on the seat fabric I was able to remove the hook.
@@texaspaddleboard7797
Thank you so much!
What do you think of after market d rings glued on to the board? I have an older isup that doesn't have d rings in the middle, just bow and stern
@@justinanderson3095 they are fine - you just need to do a good job cleaning buffing and applying glue to the surface
@@texaspaddleboard7797 Thanks!
Do you place the kayak seat right in the middle off the board or the front of the seat just behind the center handle
Great video
What width should your board be for a seat? Woukd 28 inch be to narrow? 30" be enough or is 32" yhe way to go?
28 would still work but most SUP’s for river and lake use are 30 or wider.
Is this doable if I don't have side rings that far back on my SUP? if I use the simpler stadium seat, I can just sit in it on my board and it probably won't slide around on the surface will it ?
It doesn’t slide around, the only thing that would make it move is if you sit then stand then sit again and nudge it as you sit.
How did you attach the GCI stadium seat to the D-Rings?
STRAPS:
1. Velcro 12” x ¾” - amzn.to/35bNU2s
2. Clip with loops straps - amzn.to/3O9ne3E
3. Tie downs - amzn.to/35zTJGA
Great video, thank you
What if my iSUP doesn’t have Drings?
If you don't have D-Rings, you can either buy d-ring patches, (search amazon for SUP D Ring) or use a tie-down strap after the board is fully inflated (this isn't ideal, and will create drag in the water). It's okay to use a seat without attaching it if you're on a lake or somewhere calm.
I would like to have seat and be able to stand or kneel. Seems like #3 best for kneeling. 2ndly, can u stand w any of these?
Such great video 👏 👏 👏
hi, what else would u recommend for new users who love fishing or recording stuff.. is it possible to adjust camera or fishing rod on sup? Thank
Cheers. 👍
@@texaspaddleboard7797 NOT for a $120..what a rip off
how does the framed (lower) seat work with an inflatable? Seems like a strange combination.
Is it a big deal to not strap the seat down? Will it shift around when paddling if not strapped?
no, not at all. I don't always attach it down.
Looks to me that someone should develop a chair from a cooler with a backrest and a rod and cup holder. I’ll take a small royalty for the idea 😊
heh - it is a good idea! Looks like a few people have tried it, but not really well-done yet:
amzn.to/3UjD9jm - strap on seat
amzn.to/3Si7qgN - seat with cooler behind and rod holders
amzn.to/3BPZw8R - a really big cooler seat for fishing boats
I’d like to see that video on the coolers, especially from a paddle board standpoint (pun intended).
#pun! I'll try to make a quick blog post on my www.texaspaddleboard.com site, then holler when that's ready. The video takes a little longer to make, but I'll shout when that's up. Subscribe to stay in the loop! If I can reach 1,000 subscribers this year then I'll give the channel more effort than I already am.
Sadly most of the paddle boards available here in Canada don’t have both sets of d rings available to attach the seat. Some will have only one or none
True, but the good news is the D-Rings can be added fairly easily. you can buy different color patch D-Rings like these: amzn.to/3Pddu8L and the glue like this amzn.to/3P7ARAq to add them on yourself.
haha love the puppy
Which of these would you recommend for the Origami Paddler, the seat it comes with is not supportive enough!
Fantastic review
where is the link for the rod holder?
The cooler that comes with the rod holders is this Engle 19 quart cooler: amzn.to/3A33gSO
Or there is this kind for Yeti's Rtic's etc: amzn.to/3mDTgwf
@@texaspaddleboard7797 thanks
If you are using a seat, isn't it better to attach your leash to the front of the board? Seems like dangerous entanglement would be an issue running a leash from rear of board past the seat.
If you're using a seat I wouldn't recommend using a leash. Instead, be sure to wear a life jacket. The leash is important for stand-up paddle boarding or surfing in the ocean so you don't get separated from your board in a current, but kayaks and leashes generally are not used together.
Super useful thanks
Do you recommend any electric motor options?
I don't have much experience with adding an electric motor to a paddleboard, unfortunately.
Question im used to a SOT but mine is getting heavy so now considering Sup
With seat
My question doesnt a raised seat make it more unstable for more choppy waters or in general
Is a SUP even suitable for choppy waters
Thank you i did subscribe youre very informative
I kayak on the east coast in brooklyn and allways have to deal with choppy waters strong currents and winds in the bay. So to ge honest still very hesitant about feeling safe on a Sup vs my sot
That's reasonable. I wish you the best as you decide between using your sit-on-top kayak vs an inflatable SUP vs a high-pressure inflatable kayak etc.
Awesome video. Thank You

So, We have hard paddleboards, which seat should I get? I am 200lbs x 5.11
I'd start with one of these two from my video description, and if your SUP has no d-rings to attach them to, just use 1 tie-down strap around it:
--Framed but lower Stadium Seat (Around $50): amzn.to/3t8sYRY
--Framed slightly-raised Stadium Seat (Around $50): amzn.to/3nFxBzQ
--Tie downs - amzn.to/35zTJGA
Thank you

Best sup board seat is your cooler
I do love my cooler.
Yeah you could. You need to be mindful they are wider and can get in the way of a paddle stroke. les important, they look tacky, imho.
Thank you so much for this vido !
Of course! I hope it answered your questions well. If it did, consider subscribing to my channel to help me reach my goal of 1,000 subscribers. Thanks again:)
They have lifted cushions that are only 15 for the first options it changed everything for it. Dont need to spend 150.
@snaplord that’s awesome - do you have a link to one you like? I’d be curious to try one.
