    Great video. I stumbled across this video doing a google search. I’m surprised it hasn’t gone viral yet as these 3rd gens are in demand!
    I have a similar setup with Bilstein 5100s front and rear. I’m currently running 17x7.5 oem tacoma wheels with 265/65r17 tires. I also have oem upper control arms. The upper
    Control arm is about half an inch away from the tire. If I go with a 16x8 wheel with your same tire size of 285/75r16 what offset do I need in order to clear the upper control arms? I heard you mention an offset of -6 with your setup. I don’t have fender flares as mine is just an SR5. Would a 0 offset clear the upper control arms or would I have to go with your setup of a -6 offset? Appreciate the help brother.

    Tires and lift look great! I’m running same springs/shocks but with 265/75/16. Thinking about upgrading to 285/70/16. Does the truck feel sluggish? Do you feel it needs to be re-geared or there really is no difference? Any feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Great stuff! Thanks for covering this (as a follow up to your earlier video). As a newbie to 3rd Gen T4R and all of the mods to consider (lift, suspension, etc.), this is very helpful. Those Cooper STT's look awesome! I'd love to get some for my '98, but they're a little pricey (and I don't do much off-roading yet). How do they perform in snow?

    • @Beacon_Offroad
      @Beacon_Offroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear, thanks. They seemed to be ok. I went out twice in heavy snow. In the softer fresh it was good. In older icy snow, still slippery but that's to be expected i geuss.

      @@adamh2837 we install and more importantly align lots of toyotas at the shop. The clear advantage of spc's is the extra adjustability. Because of the upper camber and caster movement you can put your lower cams in max position giving you more rear tire clearance. We usually install 333 fab cam lockout kit. For this reason there the obvious choice for me..

    So I think you will be the perfect person to ask as you run both suspensions im looking at. Looking at the OME/5100 lift and the Dobinson lift you did on your tacoma (I have a 2nd gen tacoma). I was wanting to know your opinion on which lift you like better on/off road/load capacity, quality etc. I know there is price point difference but not important. Either way the packs will be replaced for what I need. Thanks

    • @Beacon_Offroad
      @Beacon_Offroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, both perform great. I think if youre more budget conscience go Bilstein. But if you have some money to spend, Id go even further and go remote reservoir type stuff. For my Tacoma I have no regrets but wish I would have just went all out from the beginning, lol.

    Newby to your channel and liking the content very much! I have the same color 99 SR5 (no diff locks however) as my ride in Costa Rica. So fun cruising the back roads in search of rivers and waterfalls. I'm a fellow BC'er that spends time there and slowly doing similar modes. @@Beacon_OffroadC.R. is different but similar to Costal BC. It has rainforests that are lush green, lots of rivers to cross, slippery volcanic mud and beautiful beaches you are allowed to camp on. A 4wd drive is almost mandatory if you want to go off pavement. The 4runner is a classic there and parts are readily available. They hold there value too. I paid $10K USD for mine 2 years ago. Put nearly $4K USD in repairs and upgrades. I could still sell it for $10K USD. Wish I had it here for the summer months. Thanks for connecting and I will be watching for future videos!

    How well did the 883s go onto the 5100s? Ome says 883s won’t work on anything but their brand strut. Do they fit well on the coil seats? And where did you get your top hats for the coil overs?

      🤔hmm
      I’ve been a bit reluctant about sizing up because of that thought, considering the new weight of the tires and wheels. I’ve also heard people needing to regear, when they run a larger setup.
      Do you think that fitment would be appropriate on my 3rd Gen then?
      Currently, I have Bilstein 6112s in the front with SPC control arms, and Bilstein B8 5160s in the rear, giving me about a 2.5” lift.

    Your rear is only rubbing the one side because of your pan hard bar. Maybe when you get the other bracket on it won't do it.

    • @Beacon_Offroad
      @Beacon_Offroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It got done eventually and still rubs a touch on that side. I'd say its more to do with being over flexed. I recently did a travel test without springs in to check fitment for 34s. Definitely need bumps stops to limit travel and some bumper triming.

    I have a question for you. Was wondering if you can help me out. I have a 3rd Gen. runner manual transmission 4 cylinder 2.7. I understand a lot of people go with the red line G L4 gear oil for the transmission fluid. And a lot of people don't recommend the standard G L5 that autozone sells Because of the extra sulfur that damages the synchros. However there are some that autozone now sales that says for requirements G L4 and G L5 but don't know if that is safe to use. Some people say just to stick with strictly G L4 manual transmission fluid however some have said that the new versions of G L4/G L5 gear oils Are OK to use because they aren't as corrosive to the syncros in the transmission. Do you have any advice as to preferably which gear oil to stick with and which one do you use if you have a manual transmission

    With this lift setup, does it have a raked look? Unfortunately, you never show us a side profile view of your truck so I can’t see what the finished product looks like. Also, you should have a list of part numbers of every part you used and needed for this setup to make it easy for us to know exactly what we need to order. You mentioned something that needs to be welded? But I’m trying to figure out what that is and/or if it’s necessary!?

    • @Beacon_Offroad

      Well, better is a realtive term. What I mean is, there isn't a huge stopping power difference, but with the heavier duty rotors the heat resistance is greatly increase causing less issues forsure. If your due for brakes it's well worth it.

      With the 5100s you'll have the adjustment you'll need. Depends which front setting you use I doubt it will be higher in the back. A little of rake is good though if you plan to haul camping gear etc... it will sag or settle a bit eventually over a few months in the rear. Good luck 👍

    Im going with the same OME springs on front and back with 5100’s. For 3inches of lift should i just leave the shocks on the factory setting of 0 lift? Would you recommend leaving my rear sit a half inch higher so when its fully loaded the truck sits evenly by using spacers? I have 33 inch tires and i dont want to rub ( i dont mind cutting). Long term i want to of course upgrade control arms and shocks but i want to use this setup or something similar to save money while i work on other things.
