I'm sort of amused that Cedar Point releases one video where it talks about different wheels used for testing, and now everyone is an "expert" on roller coaster wheels! =)
+David C (river1216) I sort of agree. It's really my favorite when sitting in the front, only because when you ride it you feel you are going to hit the pillars by the entrance. But that is just my opinion and there are many other competitors when it comes to rides at Cedar Point
Mr.Stride There's no other park in the world that has a diverse coaster line up like Cedar Point. The only park that can compete with the park in terms of coaster diversity is Magic Mountain and Great Adventure. But those parks are a piece of crap in terms of overall park atmosphere. Cedar Fair is hands down the best theme park in the country and perhaps the world.
To anyone who is unsure of if this ride will be worth all the wait to get on it, rest assured that it most certainly is. I was here on Saturday, and started my day with this one. And it really was a blast! It felt really different than any other coaster I've ever been on, it was an awesome experience that's well worth the wait, I promise! Extremely fun!
Omg all these comments piss me off about OMG x2 is better than gatekeeper OMG u can't compare these two coasters they're completely different x2 is a 4d coaster it's mostly about your seat flipping and gatekeeper is a wing coaster for smooth inversions and near misses and for the love of god it's not called the gatekeeper omfg there's so many gp in the comments
personally for me, this is my new favorite coaster. I went with a friend a year ago for his birthday celebration and I couldn't get enough of this ride. It's smooth and decently fast. You are inverted many a time and that first drop is priceless. Plus it's awesome seeing the people entering the park as you are going through two main gaits.
So theirs this new "parrot coaster" in Asia that claims it's the "fastest" and "longest" yet, it came out in 2014 and I haven't heard about it until today! Who still agrees that gatekeeper is still the best wing coaster?
Looks fantastic!! The changes to the entrance and to this once desolate area of the park are stunning! This ride is so sexy! Lol. Three trains, full circuit, great capacity per hour, and the now open view of Lake Erie. It's a perfect addition. What I'm most impressed with is the delivery of the finished product without a hitch. Many know this has not happened with a major CP attraction in a long time. I think I love Quimet!!!
Actually it’s not bad it’s the smoothest ride in the park and you hardly notice when you’re upside down it was my first upside down coaster and the only thing that happened to me was I was having issues walking. But it’s. A super fun ride especially if you ever want to see what birds feel like
I threw up after I got off because there were five minute lines for almost every ride when I went and I rode the raptor right before I got on the gatekeeper
It's very similar to The Wild Eagle at Dollywood. Wild Eagle is the smoothest roller coaster I've ever been on. And the view of the mountains is beautiful.
This is one of those coasters that no matter how good the video is, it just can't do the experience justice, I want to go to Cedar Point just for this ride
Going to Cedar Point on a field trip for school. :D Can not wait to ride this! We are also going to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, the zoo/rainforest, and staying in the inside waterpark hotel! I am extremely excited!
i think gatekeeper is one of the best b&m out there i like to see more of this in future i love the style of b&m coaster i like to see one day this coaster with a launch effect tho
I only recently (within the past year or so) found my love of roller coasters after having been severely intimidated by them as a kid. I took my family to Cedar Point this past weekend and Gatekeeper was one of the coasters we rode. It instantly became my favorite coaster so far. I won't discount the possibility that I'll yet find another coaster I like better, but for now this was absolutely the most fun ride I've been on yet. So smooth, so many inversions, so much fun.
John Laughlin Did you ride Millennium Force, Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, or Magnum XL-200 while you were there? They all offer different experiences but I personally enjoy them better than GateKeeper. MF, Maverik, and TTD are fast and intense and Magnum has crazy airtime.
I went on my first rollercoaster last year at Cedar Point. It was the Magnum XL200. I feared for my life. I wanna go on the Gatekeeper. Currently my favorite Roller Coaster was the Backlot Stunt Coaster at King's Island. My second coaster was the Corkscrew which I enjoyed much more than the Magnum.
The thrill on wing coasters mainly comes from all the near misses with the supports, and with Gatekeeper, the keyholes. And the name Gatekeeper because it flies over the front gate.
Rode it today, it was a nice all around roller coaster. When I first saw it I was very impressed with how smooth it sounded, but it wasn't overly smooth when I rode it. Overall, it wasn't the most thrilling ride (never tried to be), but it was very fun, like I was flying. I recommend everyone give it a try.
I'm pretty sure he's referring to how it feels on any roller coaster. It doesn't actually go faster in the back, but it feels like it does because the back is being dragged by the front. Like the first drop of a coaster always feels faster in the back because when the front goes down, it pulls and drags the back down with it.
I've never ridden a true wing coaster but the dive coaster called "Sheikra" at Busch Gardens (also B&M) is a good taste of what this is like. When you sit on the two seats on the far left or far right you are off the sides of the track so you get the same experience that a wing is giving you. And I must say I love riding that coaster with no track above or below me. Sheikra is awesome but too short. This is going to be incredible considering how long it is.
the track is actually filled with sand to make it more quiet. That was in an article when the owner of cedar point went to Cincinnati to look at how it was coming.
Yeah, I heard this ride has a LONG wait line. Probably because it's the first kind of roller coaster at Cedar Point. I'm going next saturday and i can't wait to ride this first thing.
You will love Cedar Point, the lines are not as long as other parks and the views of Lake Erie on the coasters are awesome. Stay an extra day and take the jet express or millers ferry over to Put in Bay and rent a golf cart and tour the island. Visit Crystal Cave and go to the top of Perry's monument for more spectacular views.
@BurtonRider98 during testing they usually start out with softer wheels so then the ride goes slower then they put in harder wheels towards the opening so then the ride can go at a regular speed.
I dont think so... I mean they will be replaced if they get used up or get damaged, but, now correct me if im wrong, i think they use the same wheels for testing and for normal operation
I'll be heading to the Point on Memorial Day week, which includes my birthday. I simply can't think of a better birthday present than sixteen of the greatest coasters in one park.
the ride itself looks more modern than anything else in the park which makes it really stands out. when it turns to go back into the other roll, is that an inversion because it looks very close one? and if its not, they should have made it one.
I got fast lane plus, I'm going this Friday for my schools Senior trip I cant wait! I went last year with fast lane, never waited longer than 20 minutes on ANY ride. it is WELL worth the extra $65 and will definitely be worth it this year!
Coasters have been doing that since they were first built. Part of the thrill is making it seem like you are dangerously close to the support structure, when in reality you are more than a safe distance away.
Loved this ride, I was there back in May of 2013 and rode this three good times and once in the very front all times on the right side but someone told me that the left side is actually better.
I'll agree with you, the left side seemed better in the roll/dive/drop off the lift and the headchopper moments seemed more close than on the right side. : )
You know, I've always wondered if riding a winged coaster like this is a different experience depending if you ride on the left side or the right side of the coaster. Is there any difference??
Can't wait to ride this in August. A little disappointed by the lack of speed in the outside near misses in the barrel roll toward the end of the ride, but other than that this looks fantastic, especially left side
It will vibrate more because it is on the outside of the track but it will have been designed to only vibrate a certain amount. It's a B&M after all, and they do try their best to keep it smooth as possible.
Could be Gatekeeper is on Cedar Point's early ride time system for guests of their hotels and resorts. Might be riding this before the park even officially opened to the public. The one time I got to do early ride times for the park it was empty.
This rollercoaster is exactly like wild eagle in Dollywood! I have been to Cedar Point and right when I left they announced that they would open this. SERIOUSLY! Also, the wild eagle in Dollywood is a good one too!
I rode this with my friend Stephanie Fritz on may 26th 2013. The best seat in the house is back seat to the right. It never slowed down in the back due to the full weight of the whole train! We rode 4 times that day. Get your fast pass and wait in line no longer than 1/2 hour!!! Best money I ever spent!
I got surprised that Cedar Point launched a Point of View so soon! The on-ride image tells they still have some room for coasters! "Go Big!" for Six Flags, then "Go Spread!" for this park! =)
are they going to let you film while riding? i heard that they dont alow it. also thursday may not be the best time. its usualy crazy on opening day. you should go on the tuesday after.
That's the beauty of Wing Riders. Each side can offer quite a different experience. But in this case the left did look better. Especially with those "near misses" ;D
It does appear to run slow (which I think just looks that way on video because wing riders have larger drawn out elements), but the layout is great and really takes advantage of the train design with the close calls and all that. I can't wait to ride.
Were there alot of bugs? One time I was there on millennium force they had to give the people in the front towels cause they would be covered in bugs after the ride!
Dude. The coaster is always going to be safe. Cedar Point would never build an unsafe coaster. It was made off the track to be more exciting. When I rode the Gatekeeper, I was AWESOME
I was there on opening day Saturday. Me and my group bought fast lane passes. We rode Gatekeeper seven times, also Millenium twice and the dragster twice. Buy fast lane passes if you get there very early, believe me, they're worth it..
This ride fits over 1700 people in an hour. That's about 22,000 a day. The park has been open for a couple weeks this season, probably about 15 operational days. That's 330,000 people who have rode this coaster so far. That's 1,320,000 limbs... Each of which have stayed intact. Relax, ride it, and have fun!
they probably still have the soft wheels on. they use soft wheels first to make it go slower to work out the kinks first, if they used hard wheels from the get go it would cause too much damage.
Can someone out their help me out. My son and I will be driving back out to Cedar Point later this summer. we haven't been there since 2004. The Maverick wasn't there back then. My son and I are pretty big guys -about 290lbs each-- will we be able to get on this ride? If you happen to notice any big guys getting on the MAVERICK let us know. Will be going anyways but i'm really looking forward to this ride. Be honest please. THANKS
There are so many different opinions about this ride...like that fact that it's not very forceful. It's definitely not X2 or anything, but I think Cedar Point wanted it that way. Definitely a great addition!
disneyworld has something like the fast pass and they don't charge for it. But you have to come back in one hour and have to ride the ride in that hour. So they also have 2 separate lines.
I never thought I'd say this about a ride, bu that's one sleek, beautiful and sophisticated design!
This ride is fantastic, so smooth and fluid, also it looks awesome going over the main gate
The barrel roll through the park's front pillars is incredible
Yes!! I've been waiting so long for this POV!! Can't wait for our annual trip this summer!!
I fucking _love_ the look of this coaster. It's wonderful.
I'm sort of amused that Cedar Point releases one video where it talks about different wheels used for testing, and now everyone is an "expert" on roller coaster wheels! =)
Gatekeeper might not be the best roller coaster at Cedar Point, but its definitely the most iconic ride in the park's history.
It's more of a Cedar Point landmark.
+David C (river1216) I sort of agree. It's really my favorite when sitting in the front, only because when you ride it you feel you are going to hit the pillars by the entrance. But that is just my opinion and there are many other competitors when it comes to rides at Cedar Point

David C Your definitely right about that
+Lyndon Abul well that's ur opinion
To anyone who is unsure of if this ride will be worth all the wait to get on it, rest assured that it most certainly is. I was here on Saturday, and started my day with this one. This is the only wing coaster I have ridden but i must say it's freakin' awesome.
Hm, this ride looks pretty awesome, but I still think that X-Flight (Six Flags Great America) is the best wing rolled coaster. Just my opinion!
Furius baco must be sick aswell! Only wingrider i have ridden so far though is the raptor in gardaland, it might be the worst wingrider in the world
i've been waiting for this video for 5 months. thank you so much.
If you ride this, ride on the right side! Left Is painful!
How is it painful ive never been to cedar point but i might go sometime this year or next year
Left is best! How was it painful?
I dislike these vest restraints from B&M mavericks were Better
Kevin Thompson I like them a lot better
Maverick isn't a B&M...
Looks fantastic!! The changes to the entrance and to this once desolate area of the park are stunning! This ride is so sexy! Lol. Way to intense for me
Wow! Looks awesome! Cedar Point is on my bucket list of places to go and this ride makes it all the more reason to want to go!
This ride's got vomit written all over it.
I rode it twice on the same day that I rode my first rollercoaster.
No puke.
Actually it’s not bad it’s the smoothest ride in the park and you hardly notice when you’re upside down it was my first upside down coaster and the only thing that happened to me was I was having issues walking. But it’s. A super fun ride especially if you ever want to see what birds feel like

Can't wait to ride it!
going next week! cannot wait to test it out! I've ridden every ride there, and Raptor has always been my favorite.
It's very similar to The Wild Eagle at Dollywood. Wild Eagle is the smoothest roller coaster I've ever been on. And the view of the mountains is beautiful.
That was pretty awesome..almost felt like actually being there. Thanks for the upload!
Oh Wow!!! This looks beautiful!! So Happy we are going to Cedar Point this summer!!!!
I'm glad you can experience a coaster in a video the same as you can riding it in person. I'm jealous you have that kind of talent.
going to Cedar Point for my senior trip! Can't WAIT for this ride
i think gatekeeper is one of the best b&m out there i like to see more of this in future i love the style of b&m coaster i like to see one day this coaster with a launch effect tho

Dude you have to realize that some people enjoy the less-intense roller coasters. For example, I like Roller Coasters but I am a big scaredy cat.
Back seat, right or left side. Freakin' amazing. The ride never slows down like it does in the front seat.
The thrill on wing coasters mainly comes from all the near misses with the supports, and with Gatekeeper, the keyholes. And the name Gatekeeper because it flies over the front gate.

I got on this ride 3 times in a half hour yesterday. Was great! Top thrill Dragster, twice in 10 minutes!
Simply amazing!!! It looks so much better than the 3D animation... can't wait to ride it sooner than later
I'll be heading to the Point on Memorial Day week, which includes my birthday. I simply can't think of a better birthday present than sixteen of the greatest coasters in one park.
I've been there and i will definitely miss the old indoor one the took down to build the Gatekeeper. But i am pumped to ride this one!
the ride itself looks more modern than anything else in the park which makes it really stands out. when it turns to go back into the other roll, is that an inversion because it looks very close one? and if its not, they should have made it one.

Same here man! Did you ride the back seat? Totally different experience than the front! I loved it!
Riding this when I go to Cedar Point in September!! Can't wait!!
How does the loading and unloading happen? Two different entrances/exits? Or do you "cross" the track?
Leftside seat for me please.
I'll agree with you, the left side seemed better in the roll/dive/drop off the lift and the headchopper moments seemed more close than on the right side. : )
Need to make a road trip this summer! Haven't been since the opening of Millennium Force.
I was at cedar point yesterday and i went on this ride it was amazing!! on a scale of 1-100 i give it 100000000000!
You know, I've always wondered if riding a winged coaster like this is a different experience depending if you ride on the left side or the right side of the coaster. Is there any difference??
this is by far the smoothest coaster ive ever ridden

I've waited so long for a real POV.
Just rode this ride last night for the first time. It's an awesome ride, especially at night when it's all lit up.
Could be Gatekeeper is on Cedar Point's early ride time system for guests of their hotels and resorts. Might be riding this before the park even officially opened to the public.
The one time I got to do early ride times for the park it was empty.
im thinking about going but is the ride long? well I mean I know its going to be long because its new but will the line for top thrill be shorter?
such a great addition to their collection, this thing will be a huge hit
Are wing coasters kind of like multi-dimensional (4D) coasters, but front facing and locked into one orientation?
Going in 1 week!! Super excited especially for the gatekeeper!!
This rollercoaster is exactly like wild eagle in Dollywood! I have been to Cedar Point and right when I left they announced that they would open this. SERIOUSLY! Also, the wild eagle in Dollywood is a good one too!

We rode 4 times that day. Get your fast pass and wait in line no longer than 1/2 hour!!! Best money I ever spent!
to be up front, I am fat and on b&m coasters I need the double seat belt restraints. what are my chances of fitting on the new wing rider restraints?
I got surprised that Cedar Point launched a Point of View so soon! The on-ride image tells they still have some room for coasters! "Go Big!" for Six Flags, then "Go Spread!" for this park! =)
this fav at Cedar point . you flip up side down 170ft in air. its also long and smooth
Yes it's very smooth and I just love the first drop it's crazy.
This, Maverick & Wicked Twister were my Cedar Point favorites closely followed by Millinium Force & (of coarse) Top Thrill Dragster
MF still Number 1,then maverick,,Then Gemini i didn't Get to Ride Top Thrill WindSter
It's a test run. I'm pretty sure they run them slower during testing until everything breaks in and they are sure nothing is going to fail or fly off.
no its not, look at the shadow at 1:17 and there is lots of seats its just nobody is on the ride and the camera is attached to the ride...
I have rode every ride in the park, but one the mantis the line is always to long. What do you people think about the mantis
are they going to let you film while riding? i heard that they dont alow it. also thursday may not be the best time. its usualy crazy on opening day. you should go on the tuesday after.
That's the beauty of Wing Riders. Each side can offer quite a different experience. But in this case the left did look better. Especially with those "near misses" ;D
Looks pretty smooth, can't wait to ride it!
It does appear to run slow (which I think just looks that way on video because wing riders have larger drawn out elements), but the layout is great and really takes advantage of the train design with the close calls and all that. I can't wait to ride.
what day did you go on where you waited 7 hrs? Do you think a friday would be really busy
get a fast lane plus. we rode the gatekeeper with the plus, and it was only a 5 minute wait for us.
i recently went to cedar point, and it was fun!
is this still with the soft wheels? or have they put the harder ones on already?
Were there alot of bugs? One time I was there on millennium force they had to give the people in the front towels cause they would be covered in bugs after the ride!
I really like gatekeeper! it is a very smooth ride and is a nice break from the thrill rides. Big Fan!
Yeah But Hopefully They start Making More Wooden coasters Wood Comes From The creator Steel is made By His Creation
I'm gonna ride this on Sunday! Don't even care how long the wait is!
I really really really want to go to Cedar Point this summer!
So far I've been on every coaster in the park without an inversion, but it looks like I may have to ride this one!
This looks so cool! :) I'm going to Cedar Point next week. I'm so excited. :D
this is THE coaster of this year ! its finaly done !
they probably still have the soft wheels on. they use soft wheels first to make it go slower to work out the kinks first, if they used hard wheels from the get go it would cause too much damage.
Can someone out their help me out. My son and I will be driving back out to Cedar Point later this summer. we haven't been there since 2004. The Maverick wasn't there back then. Will be going anyways but i'm really looking forward to this ride. Be honest please. THANKS
so if i did that could i ride any ride there like the top thrill dragster?
Quick Question, is running at full speed in this video, or are they still using the softer wheels?
Another piece of B&M perfection.
What are they gonna do for the giant square where disaster transport was?
There are so many different opinions about this ride...like that fact that it's not very forceful. It's definitely not X2 or anything, but I think Cedar Point wanted it that way. Definitely a great addition!
Have you actually been on this ride? And if you have, do you like this or the iron rattler better
disneyworld has something like the fast pass and they don't charge for it. But you have to come back in one hour and have to ride the ride in that hour. So they also have 2 separate lines.
So when are you going to sell start selling this footage on your DVDs?
