Yeah compared to how it used to go over the top (I swear sometimes it would barely make it over). That was the first thing I noticed about this iteration of the ride that wind probably won’t be as much of an issue as it used to be. It kinda reminds me of when millennium force opened up and how much different the left hill was on that vs traditional chain lift hills. You def notice the difference when you’re going over the top of that vs a traditional lifts.
The fact of how fast the train goes over the tophat suggests that the new system has a higher top speed than the old Top Thrill Dragster. Maybe it really is almost 200km/h (124mph) here compared to the old topspeed (120mph)
I think its more so that this system launches it at a smooth 120 each time up and over. TTD would frequently launch at 118 and sometimes get down to 112. That system would adjust the speed based on the amount of time it took to get Top Hat from launch. Thats why they took the speedometer away that it originally opened with 🤣 looks super fun!!
@@germxvno you can’t lol. I rode on it second day opening and there isn’t airtime over the hump or weird feeling over the hump. By the time you go over the hump your stomach is already used to it lol 😆

The hydraulic launcher of the original can’t be beat. It’s not nostalgia, it’s science. Ridden lsm launches and nothing compares to the bullet like feeling off being shot out of a hydraulic launch.
Original was 0-120 in 4 seconds. One of the few ways to experience that amount of acceleration on earth (freefall in a vacuum only reaches 87 mph in 4 seconds), you'd otherwise need to drive an actual dragster or a fighter jet to feel that kind of acceleration. The various clones of TTD like Kingda Ka or the slower/shorter Red Force luckily still exist (for now).

That top hat has way more ejector air time than before, so it seems that it's actually hitting 120mph pretty consistently. I've had some friends who were operators for TTD, and they said it very rarely actually hit 120. It was usually between 112-119, depending on the system, weather, weight, etc. You also have to remember these trains are lighter, have bigger wheels, and sit you higher above the tracks. Nothing is more dissapointing then seeing people posting to their coaster channel, claiming they love coasters, bad mouthing or doubting tt2. The first launch is still slow but it does have a noticeable bump in acceleration at the beginning, which is an improvement over what i though it would be like
It's so crazy to me that this coaster goes over a track switch at high speed. I didn't realize that and would probably not ride now. Your life literally depends on if that little piece of track at 0:17 lines up properly. If it's a few inches off...
Allow me to let you in on a little roller coaster secret when it comes to alternating the load (taxi) track onto the run (motion) track. Roller coasters are now becoming equipped with more sensors than track, meaning for every roller coaster track that has a switch over, their sensors are very sensitive and if there is a trouble spot the sensors are programmed to shut the ride down until the maintenance worker physically turns back on the switch for the whole ride. If there is a malfunction at any time once the control panel is in go mode... The sensors automatically shut the control panel and the ride down and only I say only can the amusement park maintenance tech physically goes to the box and turn it back on. And then have to turn the control panel over to hard reset before the ride even reactivates for the tracks to align. And that even goes hand in hand with all fastening harnesses whether it be by lap bar or overhead chest harness! So considering a ride like this, it is a high priority and a flight risk so they would have to have everything in one condition before anyone turns the key on the control panel to operate the ride! Oh by the way if the switch track fails to operate the maintenance worker must send for help because they would have to push the cart off of the track back to the loading dock. So you wouldn't have to worry about the switch track malfunctioning once the ride is out of taxi mode. Here in Texas they have a ride called Mr freeze and the loading dock has two trains that load alternatively back and forth. And surprisingly it is built just like this ride. And I was on it when it malfunctioned, shutting the whole ride down because it did not slide over to the run track. And the maintenance workers had to literally push the train carts over to the run track just to pull them back for the whole system to reset. Thank God for those sensors!
the ride has many, many sensors that are aware of the tracks position down to the millimeter. it can and will stop if there's even the slightest chance of danger. if you have any doubts just remember the park nor the design company want to deal with a train full of dead people
I rode Top Thrill Dragster a month before they closed it forever. This ride is a great ride, but there's nothing like that 0-116mph acceleration on the OG TTD
I miss the dragster sound effects they had before the coaster took off. Also the “keep your arms down head back and hold “ with the stop light. Made the anticipation better
This is amazing, can't wait to ride it. My only question is, what is the throughput? Like on a busy day at the park, how long would it take to get on with what looks like only 2 trains being possible.
dawg, it took a just more than a minute before the next train had the option to enter the track. a loading time takes 2 minutes usually. no difference.
@@robertrusu1958 If that's the case, then that's amazing. Just a legit question as I haven't been to it yet. Just looking online though, each train has a capacity of 20 riders. Assuming every train is fully filled (CP seemed to be good at that in my visit without sacrificing load times), and assuming a loading time of 2 minutes as you said, ride time of 2:09 (taken from this video, not counting the unloading time and the time taken to get back to the loading area, which isn't shown), that's a 4:09 cycle per train minimum. I'm slightly autistic and just a nerd, so trying to break this down (don't take this as me going against your comment or anything, just genuinely curious): 249 seconds per ride cycle (without time taken for guests to get off and train to get to loading area) 20 riders per train 3 potential trains at once 249s/20 = 12.45s ride cycle/rider 3600s/249s per ride = each train can get off 14.46 runs/hr 3*14.46 = 43.38 total train runs/hr 43.38*20 guests = 867.8 guests/hr That still seems like a very low throughput for a very busy park, even not taking into account the aforementioned unloading time and the time taken to get back to the loading area. If I misunderstood something or am missing something, let me know. In my brain, it still seems like a capacity nightmare. I'm still skeptical of 3 trains running consistently too; if it were only 2 trains, it's be just 578.5 riders/hour. If that happens, a safety code will be thrown and the train will come to a stop along the long part of the track. Then, the mechanic will come out and do a reset on the system, and will enter a code to return the coaster to the "start line". If possible, the ride will then just restart from the beginning of the program. If it faults further (train will not return to station) then they will evac the ride. This is just my guess, ElToroRyan would be able to tell us. He was a ride operator there for years and he loved working the original TTD.

249 seconds per ride cycle (without time taken for guests to get off and train to get to loading area)
20 riders per train
3 potential trains at once
249s/20 = 12.45s ride cycle/rider
3600s/249s per ride = each train can get off 14.46 runs/hr
3*14.46 = 43.38 total train runs/hr
43.38*20 guests = 867.8 guests/hr

I got to ride it before it closed after 10 days. It was amazing.
I’m ten and for the summer I’m going on this with my dad
Daaaaaamn
This ride was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That is insaneeeeeeeeee
I wonder if it can rollback after the 3rd launch (and if it does will magnetic breaks slow it and it will repeat or will it do another swing?)

That new spike looks sick. 👀
So like theoretically if it still did rollback on the hill there would still be brakes right?
I nearly went deaf from it lol🤣🤣💀💀
Is going backwards that fast pretty amazing? I'm so excited.
It’s insane. You can only do it on Superman: Escape from Krypton at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
What speed does it reach at the start?
That takeoff after the initial one must be absolutely incredible! I’ll be back in 2025 for sure
Never been to cedar point the rollercoasters there make our rolercoasters here at six flags over Georgia look like kiddie rides I would love to visit someday just to ride all the coasters there
That brake run looks smooth
I am not certain I wouldn't have a panic attack riding this.... Insane.....😳
Did the ride uproot out of the ground when the train went over the top? loL
So Sick!!!!
Could you guys give an estimate on how high the first rollback is? I haven’t been able to find info about it.
I don’t have an exact height, but based on the raw drone cam in the newest video I posted, it looks like it goes about halfway up the top hat on the first launch 🤷♂️
@@MarcusLeshock thanks! I was thinking around there too but I wasn’t sure. That’s a high backwards fall!
I wanna go on that for sure
What will open first. Siren or this?
