Try tying 2 clean rags on a injector lube at #2 and #5 use as a handle to set the cam in Did it for years like that 37 year heavy duty mechanic w/ 27 at freightliner dealership I always used assemble lube wiping all areas of the bearings 100% of the contact surfaces not just a dab
What kind of gasket maker is that you use? Had mine rebuilt three weeks ago already leaking in that cam housing on corner of head towards firewall you put sealant on
That is anerobic sealant. Detroit calls it gasket eliminator, Cat calls it gasket maker. Locktite makes it and you can get it at your local parts house. The number is Locktite 515.
You really should put loctite on the diamond seal plate bolts. If they back out your gear train is trash. Just sayin'. When you ck backlash, you are suppose to remove the vertical bolt, stick a screwdriver in and hold the idler gear from turning for accurate ck. Only measure cam gear against the idler.
Worked at a high volume dealership for 27 years rebuilt too many S60 to count Never inspected a cam shaft like that Or lubed cam bearing during assembly like that At least hes using a most likely out dated manual for assembly ( on line info for most up dated instructions and specs Detroit updated those manuals on a regular basis Serious S60 mechanic would have the correct socket Before installing injectors always check injector timing travel (old cummins injector travel tool works great just make a long tip that mounts to the dial indicator to reach the piston )
A lot of these guys don't have $12000 in labor to pay you guys for these critical adjustments When doing overhauls, When do the best we can with what we got at our house, Will send the head out, And will rebuild it the best we can with the tools we have, And try to take her time with it because we certainly don't have $30,000 to give you guys for an overhaul. $6 to 7000 including the head... And take us about 3 weeks because we'll go real slow and take our time, And then I gotta get a couple guys to help lift the head
In my book it says it on page 1-421.its so the sealant that we put on 1 and 7 isnt affected by the oil, causing a leak. because theres oil in all other bearing there should be clearance between bearing and camshaft in 1 and 7.

Thanks. We been experiencing oil leaks on diamond seal area. This helped me greatly. I tried to send you $ but that was complicated.

The best part of this ordeal is attempting to explain to the driver why this was needed.

Great video I hate Detroit engines and I have two of them. I wish I had a field full of big cam Cummins. At least I am learning how to work on my junk

Hello sir.can I get your contact no...as I am overhauling series 60 but have some doubts for torque values
DO NOT PUT OIL ON CAP 1 & 7
Why? I am curious you should always put oil on bearing to crank surfaces. Starting a fresh rebuild with no oil is a disaster. More info please!!!!!!!
