I worked in a mall record store when this album came out. I love this song and played the album in store. I love this song. It was never played on the radio here in Houston, but I remember seeing the video on MTV.
This lyrics have so much truth to them. If you've ever broken a vicious cycle in your life, if you ever felt like you're finally awake, you'll recognize it. And it fits perfectly in the "blondest" of the eras yet, the social media era.
this whole record is under rated!! She said it was the hardest record she ever made but this song and songs like "Anyone But Me".."Spoiled Girl"..."Tonight And Forever"..."Cant Give it Up" (which is still in my work out mix!!!! I love this record!! How great is "Black Honeymoon"???
Absolutely one of my favorites.....i really loved that a few female singers who don't usually sing super poppy songs dabbled in that genre...Liza Minelli,Barbra Streisand, etc.
This is a fantastic song from an amazing, neglected album (Spoiled Girl). It couldn't sound more Eighties yet to my ears it hasn't dated. Carly shows a great sense of humor on songs like this, the title track, My New Boyfriend and The Wives Are In Connecticut. There is not a duff track on it and an expanded edition is available now - if you've never heard it and think Carly begins with You're So Vain and ends with Why, you're in for a treat!
To all those that don't realize it Carly Simon has a sense of humor and the video is meant to be a little over the top. It's a great song by a great singer.
You're right and you're right about this great song, artist and video. This is one of the Carly songs that has drama that makes one think, and relatable true life aspects at its root. She excels at this kind of thing; also check the story of "Memorial Day," the last track (lengthier, a non-single) of her underrated 1979 album "Spy."
Larry Raspberry from the Highsteppers wrote this. Larry and his band used to play the bars in the 70's and early 80's I believe. Great band. Check out the album High Stepping and Fancy Dancing.
I truly love love love this song by Carly Simon, it's from her 1984 album titled "Spoiled Girl" on the record label Epic, I worn out my original cassette but before I did I made a CD copy of it so I could still enjoy it now & even though this song is from a woman's point of view it rang very true for me too, I use to be blonde & did try to be everything everybody wanted me to be for them but I grew tired of it & walked away from it all a very long time ago, now I know at least I live my life for me so this song was & still is one of my personal theme songs that I still live by, Thank you Carly Simon!! 💜💋 #CarlySimon #SpoiledGirl #TiredOfBeingBlonde #1984
Love Carly. She was true to her talent. She was born into Simon/Schuster, didn't have to work a day. ...but it would have been such a loss. Rock on Carly!
Carly has become my great love since I saw her on television for the first time in 1983. Since then I have followed her and today she is considered by me to be the most beautiful woman I have known, the best singer and the most beautiful voice. Her songs are unique and perfect and today she is the singer I can still listen to, when I want to listen to music in my small audio studio. She is the love of my life and I like her the way she is.
Love her hair style at 2:24. That kinky poofy mane of hair. LOVE IT! I usually prefer brunettes, but Carly was one Blonde I completely adored. As a kid and even today, she is one of the best singers I have ever heard and she's beautiful too.
I used the lyrics in this song in a poetry class I was teaching and we talked about the imagery that it conveyed AND the MeToo movement. After the discussion, I showed Carly's video ( I'm 70 now and all these "bells and whistles" only add to how you can present things,), To those of you "oldsters" I connected it to Sylvia Plath. I've always thought that this was one of Carly's best
“Tired Of Being Blonde” (1985), authored by Larry Raspberry* (lyrics & music) and performed by Carly Simon, might be the cleverest metaphorical song of the 1980s❕ 🩷🎶🩷 * A man writing from the perspective of a woman… and NAILING IT❕
Oh my goodness I left my first husband in 1986 to THIS SONG!! Credit card and the note! Lol I added my own touch, he had an annoying clock that chimed EVERY HOUR, the number of chimes was the number of the hour. Very early in our marriage I stuffed paper in the clock to stop the noise, LOUD chimes every hour in the middle of the night was maddening. We were only together 3 yrs, I took the paper out when I left.lol Been with my current hubby(2nd) since 1987
I hear a double reduction starter of a Chrysler in begining must be a Dodge van at 1st sounded like it was about not to start haha. God how I've known the sound of that for years back in the day
Every 80's vid cliche... stomping around in a cape, exotic eyemake (remember "The Warrior"" and "Hungry Like A Wolf?") Channeling Stevie Nicks. But I was there, and the 80s were filled with new ideas and images. It was exciting, in a way. Even when the images didn't mean anything in particular, they just looked good. She was always beautiful, still is, but I think she's ravishing in some of these getups! Except maybe for the feather eyebrows. But then, they don't look good on anyone...
I liked this song when it came out. I was attending LSU and playing in my own bar band then. I felt then-as I do now- that this song is better than it's techno, 80s style recording. Give me traditional instrumentation. I wouldn't be surprised if Simon yielded to some producer who convinced her that she had to adapt to the times and sound more like Duran Duran than herself in order to sell records. YMMV
I don't think Carly would give in to that. She's too passionate about what she wants to do to give in to a producer or such. I think it's nice to Carly reach out and experiment with other styles. But yes, I do agree that an instrumental of this song would be lovely and fitting.
Don't hate on this video. In the mid '80s, it seems that superstars from the '70s found it necessary to prove their relevance by putting out a 1980's pop album. This video and "My New Boyfriend" are both from her attempt, called "Spoiled Girl". It's out of print, but I have it on CD. Believe it or not, is actually a really good (if dated-sounding) album.
natalia bozika Hold on. There's something really intriguing happening here. I just watched "Damage 1992" which is stared by Jeremy Irons few hours ago, then I was playing the third episode of "Life is Strange" game when it suddenly crashed. Then I felt like listening to "Coming Around Again" by Carly Simon before I got my ass back to the game, but for a random reason I got curious about this song "Tired of Being Blonde", which was listed on the related videos. I was like, what kind of music is that, then I clicked on the link of the related videos and got here. As I got here, I've seen this comment and scrolled down a little bit and also seen Cristina Song asking if Jeremy Irons was the director and I got curious about who he was and googled about him. I was really surprised when I saw his picture on IMDB web site, because he was the star on Damage 1992 and I didn't know he was Jeremy Irons. Damage 1992 was released when I was just 11 years old and I was really curious about that movie because of the erotic folder. I used to rent movies back in 90's since I was a child, but of course I couldn't and wouldn't rent such movie because it was an adult movie, but I made a promise when I got older I would certainly watch it. And everytime I did go to the "Blockbuster store" for years I stared at its folder for a long time, thinking about of how that movie was about it (I'm talking about the folder where they were naked making love). After 23 years, today 07.22.2015 I've finally seen the movie and it was really good, but I didn't know anything about the cast, that includes Jeremy Irons. Now, I've been bored last weeks because I can't find any more good games or movies to see and for luck I've found this awesome game "Life is Strange", which is about to change the destiny by making choices and manipulating time as your will to make things happen. The protagonist is a girl and her birthday is September, 23, the same day as my first love was born. I watched Damage 1992 after 23 years. Somehow all this is connected, that's a really crazy coincidences and events happening for no reason whatsoever! I feel like one character of that movie "Magnolia" lol Weird, huh :)
She left the credit cards under her goodbye note "All of these are yours, goodbye" and that was all she wrote Keys to the Porsche she dropped on the floor in the den Left in the '70 Dodge that he drove her in She wasn't angry, she wasn't sad She was just leaving a life that a lot of women wish they had Tired of being blonde Tired of running around with the usual guys and gals Tired of being blonde Tired of living up to all he expected Tired of being blonde Tired of living a life that had only been planned by one Tired of being blonde Tired of letting her dreams go neglected She used to love to know she rounded out his world She used to love to be all he ever loved in a girl He liked to buy her clothes that made her sexy and cute Guess she decided she'd been too long away from her roots She wasn't crazy, she wasn't mad She just knew in her heart they had drained her of all that she had Tired of being blonde Tired of all the platinum frustration Tired of being blonde Tired of looking like a cutie on the cover of a magazine Tired of being blonde Tired of chasing all the latest sensations She wasn't angry, no, no, she wasn't sad She was just leaving a life that a lot of women wish they had She was tired of being blonde Tired of living a life that had only been planned by one Tired of being blonde Tired of coping with the desperation Tired of being blonde Tired of fighting back the feeling inside that told her to run Tired of being blonde Tired of hiding her own inclinations

Why at 41 seconds does Carly look like a drag Queen that was asked to “sashay away”? .. anyway this song makes me miss my childhood. Love you Carly and miss the 80s 😭😭

Such a beautiful song and Lady.
My favourite Carly Simon song. A great bass riff. Love playing this🎸👍
After Another Passenger, this may just be my favorite album.
This album (and song) never got the recognition that it deserved !!! She’s awesome !!
I never understood why this song didn't become a huge hit.
@@blakegregory969 Uhhh NO
Same here
Carly has a strong voice. In my top three all time singers & writers.
It’s not near as strong today as it was in 1985, but it still holds that richness of her younger voice.
@@caleguillory5451 Agree with your comment. She has aged gracefully. But you said it right - Carly's singing voice was rich also.
GREAT song!!! it"s a shame this doesn't get played more often on the radio!!!
This lyrics have so much truth to them. If you've ever broken a vicious cycle in your life, if you ever felt like you're finally awake, you'll recognize it.
And it fits perfectly in the "blondest" of the eras yet, the social media era.
Larry Raspberry & the Highsteppers. Thanks for a great song Larry. Remember seeing you in the bars in the 70's.
A truly underrated album. Carly I Love You.
She;s so talented and beautiful.
Linda música. Marcou os anos 80
this whole record is under rated!! She said it was the hardest record she ever made but this song and songs like "Anyone But Me".."Spoiled Girl"..."Tonight And Forever"..."Cant Give it Up" (which is still in my work out mix!!!! I love this record!! How great is "Black Honeymoon"???
Tired of fighting back the feeling inside that told her to run ...how true ..
Damn, this song is screaming for a remix or at least an extension. Never get tired of playing it,
+brian chaput I can't believe I almost forgot about this. I used to run it in the ground when it came out.
Absolutely one of my favorites.....i really loved that a few female singers who don't usually sing super poppy songs dabbled in that genre...Liza Minelli,Barbra Streisand, etc.
This is my favorite Carly Simon LP. I have it on LP, CD, and downloaded on MP3. I Love her!!!
My favorite too! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

One of Carly best songs, looks fabulous
A favorite LP, very underappreciated! I loved all the songs on it, and those music videos!
To all those that don't realize it Carly Simon has a sense of humor and the video is meant to be a little over the top. It's a great song by a great singer.

From Carly's best album!!!

I loved this video when I first saw it on MTV. I get it.
I remember both hearing this on the radio AND seeing this video...
God, she's so gorgeous! I freaking love her mouth. reminds me of steven tyler!
Love Carly. She was true to her talent. She was born into Simon/Schuster, didn't have to work a day. ...but it would have been such a loss. Rock on Carly!
well not really, her parents didn't have much money. In fact, she's been near broke more than once.
This song is just GOOD!
Carly Simon always rocks! and She's a James Bond Girl!
Lovely.

Carly Simon sempre!!❤️
How did Carly Simon get this song written by Larry Raspberry? Great song, Larry Raspberry is very talented, how come I never heard of him?

oooh. AND the western beauty myth. rock on Carly!
I love it when Carly Rocks Out.
I remember hearing this quite a bit in the fall of '85. Really hoped it would be a bigger hit than it was!
The radio station I was listening to at the time played it everyday and numerous times a day and I would see the video on the TBS video program.
I had it on cassette and went nuts over it. LOVED it!!
Part of this video was shot at The Saint in NYC
You're. So wonderful. I really love all You're Songs I known them by heart
Nice Rock !!!

Why was this not a huge hit?
Same with " Vengeance " .

Wow
Thank you - that helps explain the absolute incoherence of this video. I LOVE the song, but this video is a hot mess.
I agree. I love the song too, but when I saw the video I thought "what the ?" This song deserved a much better video.
You know the eyeball key tongue was the directors big idea. LOL
I thought of this song when I made the decision to stop bleaching my prematurely gray hair. It was empowering.
have to say i am never tired of being blonde!
The scene just before last took place in The Saint. Who knew an obscure video would show the dome from the stage?
Is it true jeremy irons directed this?
Yes, I just watched a video where he said that he did. He did a great job. It's a very advanced video.
I just read this video was directed by Jeremy Irons.
She left the credit cards under her goodbye note
"All of these are yours, goodbye" and that was all she wrote
Keys to the Porsche she dropped on the floor in the den
Left in the '70 Dodge that he drove her in
She wasn't angry, she wasn't sad
She was just leaving a life that a lot of women wish they had
Tired of being blonde
Tired of running around with the usual guys and gals
Tired of being blonde
Tired of living up to all he expected
Tired of being blonde
Tired of living a life that had only been planned by one
Tired of being blonde
Tired of letting her dreams go neglected
She used to love to know she rounded out his world
She used to love to be all he ever loved in a girl
He liked to buy her clothes that made her sexy and cute
Guess she decided she'd been too long away from her roots
She wasn't crazy, she wasn't mad
She just knew in her heart they had drained her of all that she had
Tired of being blonde
Tired of all the platinum frustration
Tired of being blonde
Tired of looking like a cutie on the cover of a magazine
Tired of being blonde
Tired of chasing all the latest sensations
She wasn't angry, no, no, she wasn't sad
She was just leaving a life that a lot of women wish they had
She was tired of being blonde
Tired of living a life that had only been planned by one
Tired of being blonde
Tired of coping with the desperation
Tired of being blonde
Tired of fighting back the feeling inside that told her to run
Tired of being blonde
Tired of hiding her own inclinations
SonicSantana Burns thx, bro
yay! stepforwives in 5:22 minutes!
Kinda makes ya tired feeling
Escape from a coercive controller
Been there
Mood right here…I’m about to go brunette myself
when i heard this i died my hair back dark lol no thats for real i used to bleech it almost white
The irony is I'm tired of being brunette. I want to bleach my hair platinum.
Directed by Jeremy Irons
Interestingly this was directed by Jeremy Irons.
I wonder if she ever considered an acting career? She's kinda got the chops for it in this video.
No not Kim Cattrall but I can see the resemblance.
A very feminist song. Amazing!!!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!
oh no
not blonde yet. just went red....hey! PINK!
first there woz Carly Tired of Being Blonde + then Florence + The Machine
I love jew girls I worked at Argus insurance in Miami 2010 2 of us me and Shari got laid off a year or 2 from united auto and wound up at Argus she was always coming on to me even at united auto showing me her mellons oh God .
so jeremy irons directed this....is he gay? loved him in Brideshead...and then he did that evil twin movie...which was so friggin disturbing
He is happily married to Sinead Cusack.
I love this bitch, she sings my life, get outta my Head Carly, remember the earrings at the shop on the vineyard??!
Why at 41 seconds does Carly look like a drag Queen that was asked to “sashay away”? .. anyway this song makes me miss my childhood. Love you Carly and miss the 80s 😭😭
