  • How to Grow, Harvest, and Wire Strawflowers
Today I'll talk you through the basics of how and when to sow strawflowers. Then we will harvest some for fresh cut flowers, some for dried flowers to hang dry, and we will wire some for later use.
    Happy Gardening!

I’ve been using Murphy’s Natural mosquito repellent incense. They make cones and sticks. I set up a few of them around the garden in pots of sand while I work. Works like a charm! 🌻

Grow basil plant and rub on your skin before working in garden. It keeps mosquitoes away. Especially seeds helps more because they have oil.

Don't use your flower shears for cutting wire.

I am so thankful for these tips I couldn’t figure out why my Strawflowers are still not blooming and it is October but I didn’t get them started until June as we had such a wet spring

Beautiful. I’ve been able to revive dried ones that don’t look so great with steam from a tea kettle. Nice video

Mosquitos are attracted to human sweat, then heat (even body heat) and water. When I was in Burma, I best controlled mosquito attacks by having daily quick showers with soap, to cleanse the sweat of my skin, and TO KEEP AS DRY SKIN AS POSSIBLE, mosquitos don't go on dry cleansed skin. Not being close to a pond, or water feature in your garden is also a good advice. Also, mosquitos operate on heat. If you are doing gardening, your body will produce heat even if you are not sweating. Make sure you do gardening in the late morning hours, avoiding late afternoon and evening workout.
    I hope this helps.

Sorry I always have so many questions but I am curious as to how some of these flowers would do in a dehydrator since I don’t really have a lot of room to just store things in upside down. Any ideas?

Will birds go after seedlings? The first year I planted my seedlings out, they were all already transferred into 4 in pots but I don't think I have to wait that long... How big would you plant out your seedlings after hardening off?

Organic mosquito control? Beauty berry. It’s more intense than citronella, though you do need to pop the berries for the effect

Is there a reason you couldn't leave the stems on the flower to dry instead of using wire? Does the stem get too brittle when dried? Thanks.
